I would trade Tony Allen for a bucket of practice balls.

Good thing you are not in charge of the team, TA is our best bench player.

No, TA is averaging more minutes, points, less TO's, more steals, the same amount of blocks, his roland rating is 3.4 compared to -0.5 for Powe. Powe hasnt been good for a few weeks now, his help defense has been very bad. Doc has obviously noticed so far in December Powes mpg are down to 12.

Powe may be our best bench player by the end of the season but he sure has not been so far.

TA's been better than Leon, but Leon is clearly the #2 guy off the bench.

i thought the first part was funny as hell too. not sure why that would be a bad thing...

Well considering at 4 points, he was the leading scorer off the bench your post does not make much sense.

However i dont know if you watched the game but if you did, when TA was in he shut down Joe Johnson, especially for a stretch in the 4th quarter. He was playing such good defense on JJ that the announcers made a point of it a few seperate times, considering the announcers arent the most observant people id say that it had to be pretty obvious that he played great D.

Its not all about scoring points, i can deal with him being inconsistant on offense as long as he keeps playing defense like he has this year. As Jammer has in another thread so far this year TA has the 4th best NET PER on the team, which means his PER is 5.3 higher than the guy he is defending which is very good. It is most likely going to go down some as the season goes on but if you think TA stinks then you dont watch the games.

actually i watch every game and he absolutely miserable to watch. You're right that he is capable of playing shut down defense, but for every good defensive play he makes he almost immediately follows it up with some bone head play. Its just frustrating to watch because he guesses like 80% of the time ad when he doesn't get it right he ends up flying around all over the place and looking lost. He's not as good defensively as everyone hypes him up to be and he makes stupid guesses (look at the pistons game we lost last year where he fouled one of the best free throw shooters in the league in Billups with seconds winding and it cost us the game. The Bench in general needs some help but to claim Tony Allen is the best player on it is absurd because House and Powe clearly bring more to the table.

Its obviously not absurd as every stat shows he has been the best bench player, he averages the most points, .2 behind House in assists, most steals, .4 behind Powe for most bpg, and the most minutes off the bench which obviously shows the coaches trust. He then leads the bench in PER, opponents PER, NET PER, and Roland Rating.

TA frustrates me too, id be lying to say he doesnt because he is inconsistent on offense. However he has been VERY consistant on defense and as good as people have hyped him up to be this year because his opponents PER is 12, to put that in perspective KG's opponents PER is 14.6 and we know how great he is on defense.

House brings two things to the table, shooting and energy. He always brings the energy but he is a very streaky shooter and a below average defensive player though he can be a pest.

Leon Powe on the other hand has been a disappointment so far this year. Thusfar he is averaging 6.7/3.7 in more minutes than last year, so his points and rebounds are down. His defense outside of taking charges has been awful, especially help defense. On offense he never passes out of the post and just throws up shots, he is also going up strong much less this year than last, instead he is looking for contact and getting to the line, where he is only hitting 65% of his FT's, down from his 71% last year. His shooting is down 4% from last year which shows he isnt taking as good of shots. Doc has obviously noticed this as so far in December Powe is only playing 12.1 mpg. BBD has become the primary bigman off bench, so far in Dec. he is averaging 16 mpg and id guess thats because of defense.

^^^Big_Matt,

You hit all the right points. People love to dump on TA (go check out celticblog once in awhile), but he's our best bench player under ANY conceivable measuring rubric you want to use...all the Tony haters see are the bad turnovers, but they miss everything else. For example, last night TA had two pretty terrible turnovers, but he also was a beast on defense, was hustling like mad, getting offensive rebounds, creating for his teammates on offense (they missed the shots he created, but he still created them).

If TA ever got to play on a unit with an actual point guard, and didn't have to moonlight as the defacto point, we'd see a huge improvement in his numbers. But with Eddie at the point, TA has to be Mr. Everything out there, and it takes away some of his individual effectiveness.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

I'm just here for the memes.

really good points by Big Matt and ryann...

I think it is especially true that TA would be better off in terms of offensive efficiency if he could just focus on scoring (he's always had more success in that role). Now when he gets on the court he's got to help beat pressure with the dribble, he has to create for others (because no one else is really capable of doing so), and he has to get his. Nevermind the other end of the court where he's been excellent all season. I'd love for Doc to start bring TA in for Paul/Ray around 4 mins left (vs. 1 min left) in the first quarter, likewise in the 3. This would allow TA to come in and play a bit with the first unit, get into a groove and then hopefully play better when he's the key playmaker.

Also, I'm glad someone else has noticed that Davis has been outperforming Powe a bit as of late... at least according to Doc. Most people fail to see it.
