Trade Milsap???

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:33 am

Assuming KOC gets 100% assurances in the next couple of weeks that Boozer is healthly and ready to go for rest of season and Boozer tells him hes committed to the Jazz (maybe even signing an extension now instead in summer), do the Jazz keep Milsap for the rest of the year where he would help in the playoff run or trade him now bc he would be a gone for sure next summer?

What could the Jazz get for MIlsap and another player such as harpring and/or Almond? Lakers got Gasol las year for young talent maybe Jazz can do something similiar.

How about Harpring, Korver, Collins, & MIlsap for Brad Miller & Sheldon Williams
(next year Miller resigns with Jazz for less than earning now and definitely less than what Milsap will be earning)

PG Willliams Knight Price
SG Brewer Almond Price
C Memo Miller Koufas Fess
PF Boozer S. Williams
SF Miles AK-47
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

They have already made it quite clear that they intend to keep Millsap

Can Boozer sign an extension right now? The only way I'd trade Sap is if Boozer was already re-signed.
And the trade you suggested is absolutely horrible. Actually It's beyond horrible.

Trading MIllsap this year would be a horribly bad thing to do. He is only making $800k. His worth is far more. Selling him off while he is making so little gets you little in return. The team would be far better off doing a sign and trade in the summer if they really wanted to be without him (which I have no reason to believe).

PS: just checked the player rankings and Millsap is the top guy who is worth more than his salary at a Reina value of +1739. The next closest players (there is only 2 others in the top 100 over +1000) are Ramon Sessions at +1114 and Rajon Rondo at +1049.

So the OP goes through all these reasons that we might want to trade Millsap, most importantly mentioning a Gasol type robbing like last year, then proposes one of the worst trades ever proposed on this board? Seriously, if I didnt read the boards more I would think this guy was a Kings fan....just awful.

ugghh the "Reina value." Sorry Chris, I like RealGM but that is the most ridiculous name for a stat computation ever. Not even Mr. John Hollinger is that self absorbed.

Trading Millsap can be a good idea or a bad idea depending on the trade. Personally, I think the Jazz should trade Millsap, because his value will NEVER be higher, because his minutes will go down once Boozer is back.

For example, if I could move Boozer AND Millsap for Amare, I would do it in a second. The Jazz have a bunch of "quality" guys right now to go with one "star" (Deron). If I can move ANY of those quality guys for another star, then I'm gonna do it, because championships are won with stars, not quality guys.

"Trade" and "Millsap" don't belong in the same breath. Period.

How about Boozer, Memo, Harpring, Almond, Fes and Ron Boone for Dwight Howard.

I think the Jazz are clear about keeping Milsap. Not so much with Boozer.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Millsap is a lifer. He doesn't get the same money as Boozer, but that's just money we can spend elsewhere. I know it's easy to say with Booz being gone for so long, but Millsap is the man. With Miami not having room for him with a raise we can negotiate a Beasley deal.

I'd be ok with trading Millsap if we dump Harpring with him and get an expiring and a nice rookie deal in return. How about Millsap for Mayo ; )

The Grizz would love Millsap. I hope they make a run at him next season. For Mayo, no thanks :)

Trade Korver and Harpring for an expiring pile of junk and a first if you can find a taker. Saves almost 12M next year. Now you can sign two out of three - Boozer, Okur, Millsap, sign two rookie contracts, and have some left to fill out the roster.

AK 16.5
Ok 10.0 ??
DW 13.8
CJ 3.7
Brew 2.7
Kou 1.2
Sap 8.0 ??

Kni 2.0 ??
Pri 1.2 ??
Alm 1.1 ??
Fes 0.8 ??
2picks 2.4 ??
63.5M
Still not enough left to sign Boozer.
Keep Boozer and let Sap and Okur go? Nah.
There's enough to keep Korver if you can see a way to pawn off Harpring for an expiring.

I honestly don't think that 8 million will be enough to resign Millsap - especially if he keeps being as productive as he has been here recently. I could easily see the Grizz offering him at least what they offered Smith prior to this season (which Atlanta matched). Not saying Utah won't resign him, just that you likely won't get him on the cheap, or possibly even reasonable...
