Chris Anderson (Bird Man) We Had a Chance..

Post#1 » by CuttingEdge » Thu Dec 18, 2008 11:34 am

This guys has had issues but watching the two games we played against the Nuggets. He might have been an exceptional pick up for cheap maybe. He is athletic and quick enough to guard D.Howard and other bigs with the ability to finish. All natural talent that he was born with. At 6'10 he would be perfect for our team.. I wish we never went after Brent Barry and made an effort to get Chris Anderson in the offseason when the Hornets waived him....

- You could stand to see him on the court any more than absolutely necessary? Why not make a run at Robert Swift and Art Alexakis while we're at it?
- He's making 3.5 million this year. If we aren't going after Deke yet for 500k-1m, we DEFINITELY aren't going after him for that
- He's not that great anyway.

The guy is out of the league for the last 2 years. He hasn't face Dwight yet. How do you know if he can guard Dwight? All I know is that he embarrassed himself in the dunk contest, while Dwight gained the nickname Superman.

CuttingEdge,
The Rockets assumed they had Scola,Landry,Hayes and Dorsey at the PF position.
Behind McGrady they had...Luther Head.
Behind Battier they had...Mike Harris.
That's why they signed Barry.
Me,I wish the team had signed Turaif instead of Landry. Would have cost mil more, but Turaif is big enough to actually be a decent back-up C,he blocks shots, rebounds and has a nice mid-range jumper. Picks up fouls like crazy, but so does Landry. Isn't hindsight great?

Landry is an inch shorter, they're basically the same weight, and Landry is hella better at offense and rebounding than Turiaf, who never showed much sign of blocking lots of shots before this year and, as you said, cost more (1.5 mil) - which is a total deal killer for us. Dorsey should eventually get minutes. Mostly they just play a different style, which is surprising since Turiaf always looks like he has a terrible case of bird-leg syndrome. So, why, exactly?

Moofs,
Turaif is larger and taller than Landry and can play Cs on D. He does block shots and more importantly,he contests most everything-which leads to a number of fouls. He is a definite energy guy off the bench and is more confidant in his outside shot. But,he would have cost more,so...

Speaking of Landry, whatever happened to the 3pt shot he was supposedly working on this summer? In the Denver game he had the ball out at 3pt line and was wide open, yet he couldn't pass the ball fast enough.

Let's be realistically here Turiaf is a good 3 inches or more taller than Landry. Landry is 6'7" at best and yes I agree with tisbee if we didn't resign Landry and not go after Barry, Turiaf would have fit right in to be that Turiafola double-headed PF with Scola and be big enough to play some backup C. The thing is Landry probably has that extra hustle that comes out of nowhere to grab the loose ball that Turiaf is a step or two slower at doing. So ya know... but overall Turiaf > Landry for this team.

No thank you. We have no need for Birdman. 4 years ago I would have wanted him, but he has gotten into trouble during that time and there is no need for that on our team. We have better and younger options at the power forward position and at this point I would much rather have Deke and Andersen.

Considering that 4 years ago you would have wanted him, and had you signed him you'd have been stuck with him for 2 years not playing and this year not really being anything special, aren't you glad that didn't happen :)

I don't think we're quite pathetic enough to be pining for the Birdman just yet.
