OT: Spin Move U of Arizona question

Post#1 » by dingodile » Fri Dec 19, 2008 11:27 pm

I'm going to Tucson next week for the KU game. Where should I go to eat, drink, party, etc? My hotel is right by campus BTW.

I used to live there. Grimaldi's Pizza on Campbell and 6th Ave (right near campus) has great pizza made in a coal fired brick oven. Cannot go wrong there. Clubs are on 6th Ave (also near to campus).

All sorts of good Mexican restaurants around too. I bet you would get tons of suggestions if you go to:

for bars 4th Avenue is always jumping (che's if you want cheap drinks, O'mally's if you want live music, The shanty if your down for a chill laid back place Maloneys if you want to get stabbed) Dirtbags right next to campus is a UofA mainstay its the college bar there, youll never go any place like the meat rack again, owned by god himself (the owner legally changed his name to god).

As far as food goes, if you wand a sandwich Beyond bread is great and bison whiches is solid, if you want a gourmet meal at a reasonable price I reccomend Red Sky Cafe, if you want the best authentic burrito youve ever had venture to the south side and go to El Geurro Cannello....damn good. If you are looking for breakfast, try the Chafin family resteraunt on Broadway for a nice greasy spoon. If your taking a date Soliel up in the foothills has good french food and the mezzazine has an amazing view of the city. Also Eegees are a tucson tradition, don't eat as los betos sober.

^^^ all good suggestions.
good brew pubs too, gentle ben's right off campus, Nimbus a bit farther. 1702 (at 1702 speedway) has a great selection of microbrews and huge slices of pizza, close to the sheraton four points if that's where you're staying.

One more thing, Dingo...

Every year Tucson Weekly does a Best of Tucson edition, with best practically anything you can name categories, but it's got a lot about different types of restaurants, and bars too. Possibly worth a look.
