Glenn does well on defense most of the time but I feel like he just doesn't get it and he's a me first player. Overall, there's no way he gets an extension so we might as well try to move him for a back up SF. The player I really want is Travis Outlaw from Portland. Scal, Giddens, Baby and a 2nd might get it done. Either way, when the time is right, I'm ready for Baby to move on.
I don't think the team is going to bring in any type of long-term SF since they are likely going to give Bill Walker a chance to grow into that role behind Pierce.
I do think its pretty obvious that Davis is being showcased right now, as is Gabe Pruitt, and JR Giddens down on the farm.
It appears that the extended run Davis has been getting has more to do with helping to boost his stats and give him more opportunity to make some film-worthy plays for potential suitors. Davis is playing a TON of garbage time minutes, which Powe never plays, so this indicates to me that the team in the least thinks that Davis needs the extra run.
Pruitt's recent 2-game stint of meaningful mintues I expect to continue as well. With no free roster spots available and the team interested in bringing in one or possibly two veteran players it makes sense that Davis, Pruitt, and Giddens would be lowest on the totem pole.
Davis is primarily a backup 5 for this team and they've shown interest in upgrading that situation. Despite some spirited argumentation to the contrary, Powe has been the superior player in every measurable category, offensively AND defensively, when playing the 4. Davis has shown little appreciable development and has a long ways to go before he proves he can be more than a "glue guy" who does the "little things." Both players are up for new contracts, so the team doesn't have endless time to let both reach their full development. Its inevitable that at least one will go, and based off current roles and production I think Davis is that guy...
Pruitt is another interesting case and may be the safest of the three because he is close to being in the rotation, but hasn't gotten a chance to show his stuff. The team can afford to play Pruitt for now and see what he can do with it before they make a move in the backcourt for an upgrade. Pruitt has done very little so far, but has been nice in both opportunities. This is a wait-and-see....
Giddens is basically the 8th G/F on the team - a situation that didn't exist when he was drafted. On draft night, Giddens stood as potentially the only backup SG on the team as Posey, House, and TA were all free agents. After TA and House signed and playing well, Giddens became a more long-term option. While Ainge is typically loathe to give up on his draft picks before they get some chance to improve their value, the team interest in obtaining a vet or two makes Giddens somewhat expendable.
These are the realities of a situation where 15 players are on the roster and the team is looking to still add more contributors to the mix. I'm positive that every player on the roster has some value-range that inevitably comes up in the course of Ainge's conversations with players. Even if all three are players he likes - which is likely - he has to make tough decisions.

...this is really the ONLY reason we should be talking about trades right now...if Davis goes, its not because of much else other than the fact that the team wants to upgrade a position or two and has no roster space to do it - SOMEBODY has to go and the guy currently playing back up 5 is a likely candidate for that because his spot in the rotation will be downgraded and because he has a contract coming up...its not about "giving baby a chance" and "sticking with a guy" none of that BS. Its about the business, pure and simple - Baby's time has run out as the back up 5 and they are only keeping one of Powe/Davis as a back up 4 - if that, depending of market price - so the idea that its "hating" on Davis to suggest he is trade fodder ignores the issue that has already been confirmed by the team - looking help from outside...

There is no reason to trade him unless it opens a roster spot to get someone meaningful.
And signing Antoine Walker doesn't qualify for me.

Anyone who is currently coming off the bench is expendable if the right deal presents itself.
That said you buy high and sell low. And Glen Davis has seen his value go down since last years playoffs so it is probably better to wait and see if he can raise his stock before dealing him.

I agree with you on all counts...the guy came into camp in the same or worse condition as last year, and he's doing stupid Christmas-gift-buying features for the **** Comcast channel while the rest of his team is in great shape and contributing. I know I have dogged this guy all year and I know he got in a car crash yesterday (I hope he is OK) but I would love to get rid of him...
The problem is he has NO value...who the hell would want him? At this point he's a big body and 6 fouls to put in a game to rest up a starter...nothing else...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
