A scenario I was pondering...

If and we had the #2 pick in the draft with Blake Griffin going #1 overall, who would you pick or what would you do?

Solve our point guard mess for the next ten yeas and draft Ricky Rubio if he delares.

I would go with Rubio at #1, instead Griffin. If none os those two were available, i would trade down for Chase Budinger

That is a tough one to answer. It sounds like Rubio won't be declaring because of contract commitments. Then what? I think I would at least contact the Grizzlies former draft day trading partner, Minnesota. They have a number of needs and depending on where they end up in the draft they might want the #2 pick.

Would they trade Kevin Love for the #2 pick if either Thabeet or Mullens looks like a gem that they couldn't get with their own pick? How about Love and Miami's pick( Minnesota has 4 first round picks, the other two being Utah and Boston's I believe). It could be possible that a really good pointguard could be on board with the Heat's pick. Kevin Love and Stephen Curry in exchange for the #2 pick is pretty good.

As for which player Memphis should select if they end up at #2 there are a few options. As mentioned they could solve their pointguard problem and just pick whoever is rated the highest declaring pointguard in the draft even though he may not be looked at as the second best player in the draft. That's drafting for need regardless of where you sit in the order.

They could go with the best player available and figure out how he would fit in later. James Harden might be one of the top three and with some versatility he might be worth considering.

The way the Grizzlies are playing at the moment, and judging by the way some other teams are playing, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Memphis drafting closer to the #5-7 range than the top 2 or 3. So there are some good pointguards and power forwards that fall in that range.

Do you believe Monroe will declare? If he does then I could see us taking him with our pick. He is the freshman version of griffin and about at the same skill level we saw last year. He could solidify our starting 5 if conley plays a bit better.

Interesting call on Greg Munroe. Can't say that I've watched him other than some you tube stuff. But the word on him is intriuging. He's the #3 ranked freshman in the country by draftexpress, compared to a young Chris Bosh, can handle the ball and shoot from the outside like Lamar Odom, is a very good passer, and is said to have a high basketball IQ. On the negative side it's said he needs to show more intensity on a consistent basis, is more of a face the basket type and doesn't have that great of a post game, and still is a bit on the raw side so he should stay in school at least another year.

But if he somehow puts it together and has a great run down the stretch and into march madness then who knows? Maybe it would be good if he declares, and other teams see him as a project. If Memphis keeps up their winning ways and ends up drafting at #7 or so he might still be left when they pick.

But right now there's a huge gap between Blake Griffin and the rest of the power forwards. It's centers, pointguards, and shooting guards at the top this year or so it seems. But Munroe is a player to definitely keep an eye on.

I don´t know much of Greg Monroe, but the description is of a Pau Gasol type of player. Am I wrong?

Greg Monroe is a very good prospect.

He's big, athletic and skilled. He can score, rebound and pass well. Seems like a good kid too. He just needs to play with more focus and aggressiveness.

He could easily end up being the next Chris Bosh or easily end up being the next Andray Blatche.

Jordan Hill sure has come on strong this year with his great play for Arizona thus far. His play and freakish athletic abilities are making him a sure-fire top 10 prospect as of now and they are making him the best PF after Griffin. He would be a perfect fit alongside Gasol with his great offense and rebounding on both ends of the floor. He is a little thin for his size, but his build is similar to Chris Bosh at 6-11, 235 pounds and he is continuing to add weight - without losing mobility. Drafting him would certainly shore up our defense in the box and would give us a good 3rd option scorer which we lack. And he has dreads - always a plus.

That would give us four competent defenders on the floor in everyone but Gay, and if he were to even play decent defense like he is capable of playing, this could be one heck of a defensive team.

I'd probably say "yes" right now, but there's a lot of college basketball and a lottery that will make things a lot clearer.

I see that the options for Memphis have grown a little lately. Both Jordan Hill and Greg Munroe are catching the eye of every scout. Both are playing like top 5 picks the past few games.

I posted in the draft forum that if Memphis ends up in the top 6 then Munroe or Hill could be candidates for the Grizzlies. I also mentioned the possibility if the Grizzlies ned up outside that area where the consensus top 6 or 7 picks are then perhaps a trade to move down a bit and get two picks in the low to mid teens could get them both Patrick Patterson and Patrick Mills, along with whoever else came along in a trade.

Greg Monroe made me a believer on Monday versus UConn.

-High basketball IQ
-Solid athlete
-Good post up game
-Reliable mid-range jump shot
-Terrific passer
-Decent shot blocker
-Okay rebounder

My only concerns are that he can be lackadaisical at times and can disappear for stretches.
