Could we get anything for O'Bryant?

I don't see there being much value for him out there. He's one of those Dwayne Jones type players that you only use in case of emergency. I'd like to get a 2nd rounder for him, but doubt that is possible.

I'm hoping because of his size it might intrigue a team to give up a smaller player at a position they are overcrowded at.

give him time. in the bulls game he blocked 3 shots in about one minute of play. he needs to get stronger and learn our system better and then he might pay dividends. He's got size , has a decent touch with the ball and is fairly athletic. whether he will ever develop the passion he needs to be a good nba player remains to be seen but he has the tools and if he works hard he has a shot

Unless his contract is needed as a filler for a player the C's could really use, I see no reason to move him. He's still very young. Lets see if Doc and the coaching staff can build this guy up.

He might actually be a good fill-in if Perk went down, because with the starters he'd just need to provide help defense, clean boards, and pick up some bunny points. A simple role with the starters might make him effective in that role. When Perk missed the first few exhibition games, I thought POB looked pretty good with the starters, but he's looked far less impressive with the bench when he's expected to provide more.

There's been some pretty good seniors and tweeners the last couple of years in the draft. Whoever it is will probably be better then O'Bryant. Besides we can always just trade the pick again and use it when we need it.

Weren't we told that the coaching staff was looking for Patrick to contribute in the 2nd half of the season? Since we're not there yet, I think it's a little early to be looking to move him.

I voted no, but at the 2010 trade deadline Boston will be able to get something for his contract. I have no faith in his game and future development, but that's just me. I'd love for him to prove me wrong.

I'd like to keep POB. He certainly has a lot of potential - that's not the question. What he needs to become a good player is: a desire, strong work ethic, good environment and good coaching. Staying with the Celtics, he will receive great coaching and will be in a great environment. The desire and work ethic are the question marks of course. But I've been encouraged by his attitude so far this season. He's on the bench the whole game, but he isn't sitting on the end of the bench and pouting or have the Mark Blount "I don't give a **** " type face. In fact, it seems that he is always standing and cheering his teammates. If he's carrying that type of attitude into practices and workouts with Clifford Ray, then he could become a pretty useful player. Maybe not this year, but probably next year.

No way we trade POB. He has no value right now, but we control him at cheap money for another 1.5+ years. Our coaching staff has done more with less skill. There's no need to give up no him. And we'd get nothing in return anyway.

POB isn't going anywhere right now. He will get his time next year when we lose either Powe or Davis. We will probably bring in a stop gap player like Mutombo, PJ, or Mourning for the playoffs this year. POB might get some time this year, but I see him contributing more next year.

This guy already has more offensive skill and better athleticism than 90% of the league's centers and he wants to be a good defensive player. He's just weak as jello right now. Give him 2 years of lifting and working out and then let's evaluate him. He's still young and stupid, let him mature, hang with Perk and Company, and understand what it takes.
POB could easily turn into a guy capable of playing both the 4 and 5 which would be immensely valuable. His height make him presently irreplaceable.

He has no value whatsoever. Frankly the way he currently plays, he's not an NBA-level player at the moment.

I hope he develops, but he doesn't exactly have a history of working hard, so we certainly can't count on it.

What about POB and a pick for Noah? Noah has played well the last couple of games, but before that he was out of the rotation. He was only reinserted because of injuries, but like I said, has played well since being reinserted into the rotation. Noah reminds me of Anderson Verajao, high energy player with no offensive game (although Varajao has improved his offense this season).

And I used to like Noah when he was in college, but the guy has developed a SERIOUS attitude in the NBA and from all reports is an ****...

The good news outweighs the bad news for POB.

Good news: he is very tall, a good athlete who can rebound and block shots. Decent shooting touch. Soem ability to create offensively and decent floor vision. The tools to be a good NBA player, even a starter.

Bad news: he is a turnover and foul machine who would have trouble staying on the court. He cannot hold position defensively in the low post. He seems a bit bewildered by the speed of the game.

Bottom line: the stuff that is the good news cannot be taught. The stuff that is bad news can be overcome with time. At 22, with the Cs coaching, there is reason to believe POB can make it.

POB is a keeper. At his salary we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Interesting idea involving 2 lotto busts. The only problem is, Noah has shown flashes of being a quality player, whereas O'Bryant really hasn't.

Despite being drafted a year earlier, O'Bryant is actually over a year younger than Noah. It would depend how good the pick is. If we got them a pick in the high teens or low-20's I think they might bite. At that point though it'd hardly be worth it, since Danny drafting in that range would likely get a better player.

From posts on the Bulls board though, I get the indication they'd rather hold on to Noah and their other young players, hoping to make a trade for an established young center (Kaman has been mentioned a bit). O'Bryant certainly doesn't fit that mold, moving sideways rather than upwards.
