THIS WEEK

The AFC’s top two seeds in the upcoming playoffs meet this week, as the Tennessee Titans (12-2) host the AFC North Champion Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3). The Steelers will be making their first appearance at LP Field (capacity 69,143) since a January 2003 Divisional Playoff contest that was won by the Titans in overtime. Kickoff is scheduled for noon CST on Sunday, Dec. 21.

AFC PLAYOFF PICTURE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Titans and Steelers are the only AFC teams to be guaranteed of a playoff berth. The Titans, who have the NFL’s best record, locked up the AFC South in Week 14 with a victory over Cleveland Browns, winning the team’s first division crown since 2002 and the ninth in the 49-year history of the club. The Steelers won their second consecutive division title last week with a 13-9 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. While both teams have assured themselves of a first-round bye in the playoffs and the AFC’s top two records regardless of the final two weeks of the regular season, Sunday’s game likely will impact which team receives homefield advantage in the postseason. A win over the Steelers would ensure the Titans of the top seed in the conference. If the Steelers prevail over the Titans, they could secure homefield advantage with a win against the Cleveland Browns in their regular season finale. The New York Jets, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins (all 9-5) are in contention in the AFC East, while the Denver Broncos (8-6) and San Diego Chargers (6-8) are still alive in the AFC West. The conference’s fifth and sixth seeds currently are the Indianapolis Colts (10-4) and the Ravens (9-5).

Both KVB and Big Al will miss out on this pivital matchup on Sunday. Which means it's a given that the Steelers runnin game will be enforce. And they would be stupid not to run against the Titans since they will be missin their top two D lineman. Also, the Titans offense cannot have the offensive performance they displayed against the Texans on last week. They have to play smarter than that. If Collins starts playin like the Collins of old, then it's a possibility Vince Young will be seen on the field to play QB vs the Steelers. Will the Titans clinch HFA throughout the playoffs or will they have to wait it out later on against the Colts? Somebody respond.

In the late second quarter the Titans lead the Steelers 10-7. Right now the Steelers have the ball and are doing a number on the Titans on this drive. From the fake gun play to Moore to pick up 16yds to Nate Washington catching for 14yds for a first down. The Titans need to tighten up on defense. At this rate, I say the Steelers will kick for 3 with only 4 ticks left on the clock.

The Titans held the Steelers on this drive pretty well. I have to admit, they are holding their own against Willie Parker in this game. Now it's their turn to capitalize on offense.

Titans came up short on CJ's run, Hentrich to kick into the wind. And Steelers lose a couple of yrds on the return.

Justin McCarriens for the catch, but comes just short of the first down. Fisher will gamble on fourth down and inches.

CJ on the run and goes to the houze for the TD! Steelers get caught off guard.

Unsportsmanlike conduct on the Steelers and that gives the Titans a first down and goal at the 4yrd line.

Looks like the Titans are 2:36 minutes from clinching HFA. And Big Ben gets sacked on the play. The Titans are not playin on the D-Line.

Michael Griffin runs a long one back for a TD. The guy wasn't even runnin that fast, then again neither was the Steelers on that INT run.

Game over Titans win!

I was somewhat shocked myself. i was thinking the Steelers would take this one with the Titans missin Big Al and KVB. Both Jason Jones and William Hayes stepped up big time when the Titans needed them most.
