that being said, pau has played better d than kobe, or at least tries much harder.
Great quote dcash, only difference is if those couple of guys are on top of their game & Kobe's on top of his, I think Kobe is still the best

Or how about start? Say something back?
how come our best player wasnt taking the last shot of the game in gasol? He did drop 40 though, oh know wait that was the old man Kobe Bryant.

Pau Gasol is not our best player, but he is our MVP so far though. Kobe really needs to step up his game, his J is off, he's slower than ever before, he's not as clutch as he used to be, and where is Kobe's killer instinct? I don't see it anymore. He's never pissed off when the Lakers play lackluster defense. He should start yelling at his teammates for playing like ****, and LEAD BY EXAMPLE. shut down your opponent. where's the All-NBA first class defense? If Kobe doesn't play like the Kobe we know before, the Lakers will NEVER win a championship. Period.

Anyone else tired of this myth?

If it were true, then Kobe would have hit that shot last night. If it were true then we wouldn't have lost the Indiana game. If it were true would we have lost to Detroit in the finals?

I know we all love Kobe, but this myth has to die. It's not logical. We're deifying a man. Nobody can expect one player to "turn it on" whenever he wants. It's not going to happen. Ever.

Kobe is the best player on the team. Pau is playing the best on the team. These are two separate things. So guys like Star, don't let this hurt your ego, nobody is saying Pau is better. We're talking right now.

Kobe has underperformed in more games this year than we're used to seeing. We've been spoiled for a decade. But whether that means he's on the decline or not that's premature to say.

How is that a myth??? So you're telling me you don't believe Kobe can drop 40-50 points a game if he decides to??? That is very very possible but not exactly the outcome we want. It is early in the season and we need to get these our other players more and more used to the fact that they WILL be counted on to make clutch shots sooner or later. It is called conditioning. It has to be embedded in their heads that Kobe isn't going to be the answer to every big game, big play or big series.

Pau is working on his game more and more to really take some of the burden off of Kobe. That has to be done. Kobe is not a god and although he is the best player in the league (or world whatever), being double and triple teamed consistently in games that matter is a difficult feat for anyone.

This has to be one of the lamest threads i have ever seen on here. Kobe is still our best player, and the best player in the world. So what he has missed a few game winners. If our second team and role players were doing their jobs,we wouldn't need kobe to "turn it on". The guy is playing less minutes, and still putting up 25/5/4,while making sure other guys get theirs. Pau is a nice role player but not a superstar. The only way pau is the best player on this team is if kobe is off of it. It's okay to vent, but to just spew crazy things for the sake of doing so,is just not cool.

It is not a myth. It looks like some people are posting to be posting. Kobe did turn it on. Turning it on,does not mean you will hit every shot. Even the so-called greatest of all time never did that. Kobe has not underperfomed this year 25/5/4 while taking a backseat, because it seems like he wants to get other guys confidence up. To say pau is playing better is foolish at best. Pau get's the open looks he get's because of the attention that kobe gets, not the other way around. We aren't playing our best ball, and yet we are 21-5. I guess some people would rather see kobe put up 35,and us be a 45 win team. I swear the guy can't win for some people.

Just change the title to "pau gasol is our best player except in big games (or in physical games)" and we're all set. For example games against the celtics and magic, where he actually has to battle another physical forward or center.

eh, i'm not a fan of people throwing a lakers under the bus just to prop up another laker. the whole roster sucked against the celtics and the magic have the best center in the league.

i would take kobe at 20 points and a win over 40 points and a loss any given day...kobe's still tight but gasol is just better AS OF RIGHT NOW...sure kobe takes the last shot when the game is on the line...but seriously...has he been making them lately?

Also crazyeights he clearly wasn't saying this year he is playing better. He went as far as to say Kobe is on the decline and basically went off on a rant. It was not the dumbest post I have ever seen but the dumbest post I have seen that did not end up with a lock.

I still want to know who is better then Kobe? Lebron this year but that is it.

I think there are a few players that are right there with Kobe, and likely a couple better than him right now.

Lebron - clearly better
Duncan - Probably the 2nd best player of the last decade behind Shaq

and then there are guys like KG and Pierce who have to be in the conversation, especially Pierce who matched up against him primarily and outplayed him when it mattered most. Weren't the Lakers favored to win that series? Pierce outwilled Bryant, out scored him, played better D and provided better leadership for his role players to get the upset win. I can't think of a better proving ground really.

and the other guy who a lot of folks would put on the list (but I hesitate to) is Chris Paul. Personally, I think Kobe still has him until CP3 outshines him in a 7 game series. Wade is another guy who can be debated. Personally I would take Kobe over him as well, but I am sure others would argue for Wade right now.

IMO, he needs to be the best player on a team that wins the title to unseat Lebron and Duncan. He was 2nd fiddle on his three championship teams. If he can lead his team over either the Cavs or the Celts in the Finals this year, the crown will again be his. Right now, not so much.

Maybe KB8 was the best in the league a couple years back, but KB24 he is probably somewhere in the 3-5 range depending on your personal taste.
