OT: Manny close with Yankees [according to Dominican site]

Post#1 » by Jerryd Bayless » Mon Dec 22, 2008 6:46 am

Please, please do not lock this. nobody posts in the Yankees forum just let this topic be. This is huge news.

Impactodeportivo.com.do reports that the Yankees are on the verge of signing Manny Ramirez to a three-year, $75 million deal.
Doubtful, extremely doubtful. Still, everyone else will picking up on the Dominican-based report soon enough. Manny to the Yankees is a definite possibility, but it's highly unlikely that the two sides are this far along. On the off chance that it is, a more legitimate source will pick up on it soon. Dec. 22 - 12:12 am et

http://www.impactodeportivo.com.do/?op= ... ormat=html

Incase your wondering, this Dominican site is one of the best at being the first to report so they are legit.

I really am in favor of signing Tex and not so high on Manny but if we do sign Manny i'll be very happy because this will be so huge. Seeing him in a Yankee uniform, playing the Sox, now we can say Manny being Manny... there will be so many factors involved if this does get done. And how awesome would it be if he retires a Yankee? Lol, it's a long shot but looks like he's broken up with the Sox. It's funny though because there was WS video with him in 2004 and he said "I would rather win 1 ring in Boston than 3 anywhere else" :o

Please don't lock this either. Anyway I hope this is true. I sure hope Tex doesn't go to Boston though. It would be great if we got Manny and someone else signed Tex. Then we would have an advantage against the red sox finally.

I think enough people hate them. The hate factor will just rise a million. :D
Can't blame us for spending our dough. Every team has it, just some choose not to spend it. We give up 100 million in luxury tax like every year.

True, there's something noble in paying an extra 100 millions. I means mouths does that feed.

Yankees are sitting pretty for the next decade. A deep farm system and deep pockets. Gotta love 'em.

A look at Impacto Deportivo's recent history:
11/24/08: Reported the Braves as the mystery team in on Rafael Furcal, offering four years and $52MM. The offer was inaccurate, but they did nail the mystery team.
11/12/08: Correctly scooped the Damaso Marte signing.
2/21/08: Incorrectly indicated the White Sox reached an agreement with Bartolo Colon. Also incorrect on a similar rumor involving the Royals.
1/21/08: Correctly scooped the Octavio Dotel signing.
11/18/07: Correctly scooped the Luis Castillo signing

....so indeed this site is legit.
Also, there were reports Manny telling friends he's about to wear the pinstripes. There's about a 85% chance he's a Yankee by Tuesday I'd say.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manny_Ramirez
Haha Wiki has him as a Yankee.

And how hard will you laugh if MANNY HITS A HOMERUN AT FENWAY AND STARES AT THE BALL GOING OVER

Both the Yankees and the Red Sox need a power bat to protect their respective stars (Ortiz & Rodriguez). I would rather sign Mark Teixeira despite the lengthy financial commitment he will command because:
1) Mark Teixeira is a switch hitting slugger who happens to be an excellent fielder.
2) If we sign Mark Teixeira, the Red Sox are sh*t out of luck. They can't possibly go after Manny after the crap he pulled in Boston the past couple of years.

uhhhh ... is it out of the question to sign them both? :dontknow: is that just being spoiled?

we got rid of giambi and moose and we can easily not sign andy petitte to that ridiculous 1 year deal of, i think, 20 mill. he's not all that anymore and we don't necessarily need him. that's a lot of salary we're saving and we only signed 2 pitchers. we could probably get both manny and texiera. texiera is the smart choice but manny is the sexy choice (pause). i'd kinda be leaning towards manny cause i'd love to see him pull his antics in pinstripes for the next 3 years. he just makes watching the game more fun. oh yea, and it would be soooo sweet when he goes yard on the sox.

being a Met fan and watching Tex when he was on the Braves he doesn't seem to be that good to me honestly. He just happened to play for the Rangers and hit great. He is basically the Michael Young of first basemen. And the yankees haven't won a championship since they started out right buying players basically (Kevin Brown was the start of that). And the reason is because they invest their money in bad decisions. Burnett was a terrible decision. Tex would be a terrible decision. Manny on anything less than a 4 year deal will be such a great move that it would off-set the dead weight loss that will come from Burnett's deal. I wish the NL had a DH so the Mets could go after him.

I really, really hope the Nationals spend their entire budget to sign Tex because he is the home town kid. That would just guarantee never having to worry about the Nationals in the NL East.

^^ dude, how is he not good? his #s don't lie. just cause he doesn't really catch your eye doesn't mean he's not a good player. he's a gold glove 1st baseman who can switch hit. He averages 36 HRs and 112 RBI a year with a .290 BA. oh yea, he's still 28 years old. He is THAT good.

you are exactly right. His numbers do not lie. Look at his home and away splits from when he played for the Rangers. You won't be getting the home splits he puts up. The park the Rangers play in is just as advantageous to hitters as Coors Field is. Which is why you need to check out home and away splits when looking at a player. When you look at home and away splits you see why Tex is overrated, and you see why the A's didn't have to give up that much to get Holliday this summer.
