I appreciate the Hawks advances, but I couldn't believe their Off the second half; especially the last five minutes. What's JJ's problem. His offensive strategy and exectution were so poor and disrespectful to his teammates. He recieved the ball, dribbled out the clock and iso'd one on five every posesion during the last five minutes. The result was usually a fall away jumper that missed. His teammates had to stand and watch as he tried to take the ball inside (1 on 5), they couldn't even crash the boards because they were clearing out for JJ.
Thats not JJ, the Hawks play clock-ball when they have a lead going into the 4th. Its become noticable the past year and a half because there are now occasions when we actually do have a lead going into the fourth. JJ pounding the rock lowers the amount of possessions the other team has to come back with. It also has the unfortunate effect of being painfully boring to watch and turning everyone into a jump-shooter, which means that very often the guy who is the worst jump-shooter is left open, which means Josh Smith gets a jump shot if JJ decides not to take the shot himself.
His teamates wouldn't clear out if it weren't part of the play because it makes no sense for them to do so otherwise.
