My top 4 more realistic swingmen we should add to our roster:
1. Francisco Garcia
2. Willie Green
3. Thabo Sefolosha
4. Keith Bogans
The bottom three swingmen on the list are all workmen-like and play hard defense every night. I think they're all definitely attainable for smaller pieces. If we added them we could play any of them alongside Kobe filling the 2 and 3 positions.
If we add Garcia we basically get Shane Battier plus better offense. The dude isn't a freak athlete or anything, but he just plays the game right. He doesn't gamble on D and he plays hard every night. He's capable of playing the 1, 2, and 3 positions and most important he has a high bball IQ with a jumpshot.
I'm thinking the trade should involve Farmar and our 1st rd pick for Garcia, I might even add more to the pot if they wouldn't budge. If they want a Radman for Kenny Thomas swap I'd do it, if they want our Bobcats 2nd I'd throw it in. The trade would definitely need fillers to make salaries match, but if Mitch could get make that Gasol trade match up then we can make something work here. Now if only we could fool a division rival like the kings into handing us a player that would basically make us the best team in the league.
The other guy I'm really interested in is Joakim Noah. I know he's weak on offense, but he's basically a rich man's version of Ronny Turiaf. He blocks shots and he does it while rebounding at a very high rate. He's big enough to guard some centers and he's mobile enough to compliment either Pau or Bynum on both ends. He's got that spark in him that would pump up our team just like Ronny did, plus he would back it up with his play on the floor. The dude just has a good motor in him even though he's not a complete physical specimen. He'll be a double-double caliber player in the future.
At the rate the Bulls are going I'd look to trade them Odom, Mihm, and that bobcats 2nd for Noah and Nocioni. They might consider it to get rid of Nocioni's long contract. A more realistic trade might be a 3 way with the Knicks.
Knicks get: Odom
Bulls get: David Lee
Lakers get: Joakim Noah, Sefolosha, Jared Jeffries
That would just be the core of the trade, but that trade would definitely need fillers. I think the Knicks pull that trade off because they get to dump Jeffries and they're going to need to resign Lee in the summer which would effect their salary for 2010. The bulls would get an upgrade over Joakim Noah that's tradeable in the future if they want to make cap space. The Bulls would probably want more, but there are a lot of pieces that can be moved between us and the Knicks.
Anyways the core rotation I want in the playoffs would look like
Fisher/Sasha
Kobe/Garcia/Sasha
Garcia/whoever is left from Ariza/Radman/Walton
Pau/Noah
Bynum/Noah
That team would be legit on defense and we wouldn't be giving up our offensive firepower.
If you guys think we're getting lowballed for Odom, let me explain my train of thought. Odom is an expiring contract... unless we unload him to a team that thinks they can do well in the playoffs we're not going to get much value for him. No team is going to give up a piece that's worth keeping in the long run for a guy who's going to bolt at the end of the year. Also, I know Odom is capable of putting up 18 and 11 on a run and gun team, but I'm tired of looking at the numbers he can produce in theory. The fact is with us he's a terrible fit in the half-court offense and has far too many bonehead plays on both ends of the floor. I don't want to add another star because we got enough egos with Kobe, Bynum, Gasol, and Dfish. We need guys who don't have to deal with setting aside their egos and that'll fit our team better on both ends of the floor. We need guys with that championship quality where they lace it up every night and leave everything out on the floor without having to be reminded every other game.
