2010 Plan Assuming Lebron Stays

Post#1 » by SportsInfoBar » Mon Dec 22, 2008 1:51 pm

I think one of our targets should be Dirk. Z will either be retiring or slowing down...and getting Dirk as a psuedo replacement I think would be the best thing for the Cavs...

You could play:

AV
Dirk
Lebron
West
Mo

Still have one big who can shoot it very well. And Dirk is a very good rebounder and 7 ft...he can slide over to center for some parts of the game.

Dirk
Lebron
Sasha-(Wally, maybe at a small contract)
West/Boobie
Mo

I know a lot of fans want Bosh, I am just not as sold on him as others are. If he was a superstar his team would not be under 500 and routinely getting blown out by 25 points. Dirk I think would fit better because he is better long range, jump shooter.

Another guy who is a free agent that year who might be a great fit is Okur, he is younger than Dirk, so he may even be a better fit.

This would be the best plans to win our 3rd straight title!

Personally, I want Joe Johnson. I've wanted him on the Cavs since we screwed up and took Diop instead of him in the draft.

I saw Joe on the list and would love to have him also....but we have so many backcourt players already...but looking at it..this is how it could work?? Can Joe play that the three though?

Av (35) Jackson (13)
Hickson (30) Lebron (18)
Lebron (18) Joe Johnson (30)
Joe Johnson (5) Delonte (18) Gibson (25)
Mo (33) Delonte (15)

It would be even better if Z is still playing....

If Joe can't play the three, then you have to split 96 minutes between Joe, Mo, Delonte and Gibson...who gets traded?

Listen to what you guys are saying...

Dirk will be 33 going on 34

Joe Johnson will be 30

LeBron will be 26. We dont want a bunch of old guys playing for us... think younger, more talented players, who can grow with us.

2 years ago a lot of Cavalier fans wanted SAR to play for us... where is he now? Out of the league.

Dirk is staying in Dallas. He is loyal to Cuban...and the Cavaliers will not be interested in paying that much money for him. Not at that age.

I agree in general, though Joe Johnson at 30 is still mighty attractive and should have many good years. He'd be great IMO because he'll likely have more playoff experience but he'll be real hungry because he can't get past Boston or Cleveland before then. Sort of like how the Lakers added Gasol and Odom to Kobe but also had Bynum and some other nice young pieces to grow and develop.

Dirk is loyal to Cuban, but Cuban is loyal to Dirk as well and if they have no shot at a title I think Cuban would be happy to see Dirk go get one somewhere else. Dirk recently said he would take less to help his team win. What if he came here for less? and we get another top tier free agent?

Dirk will just be turning 32 in June of 2010....and he is a 7 footer who is not a high flyer...his jump shot isn't going anywhere, and on this team he will not be having to initiate a lot of offense, he would be catching and shooting and crashing the boards. He can easily play his style till 36 or 37.

Watching the Hawks game it showed how important a guy like Z was...we NEED one of our bigs in this offense to be a really good 18 to 20 ft jump shooter. So if Z does retire, adding the best 7 ft jump shooter in the league seems like a great fit.

How has Bosh's name not popped up?? I would like to see Stoudemire or Bosh. We need to go young to surround these team with young studs to win multiple championships with LeBron.

It has to be Bosh because Amare doesnt play defense. And his talk of being the feature guy doesn't sound like team basketball or Cavs team basketball anyway.

My question is if Lebron took a min one year contract. With the intention of signing a max deal afterward.

AV does not opt out in 09 and is promised to be starting C and get a deal he couldn't turn down in 2010.

We sign Bosh to max deal.

We sign our picks or pick players to mature overseas so they don't count on the cap.

How much cap are we left before resigning our free agents, including AV? Obviously a dream scenario to see what else we can get if Lebron was willing to sacrifice one years salary and sign his max deal in 2011. We will be short a max deal but we can get pieces or second tier guys to surround a Bron/Bosh/Mo core.

I never thought I'd see the day.. we actually agree on something. I'd stay away from Dirk too. I would still take Joe though I think he would want too much money/years for his age at that point when we should be trying to spend it on younger guys with higher levels of play.

LOL did you just suggest Lebron take the league minimum?

contracts are generally 4 to 6 years....if the player will be good till the end of the contract I would not be worrying about getting a "young" guy. I would want the best guy.

For some reason I just don't like Bosh...for a "superstar" his team is awfully poor AND not just in record, they are getting blown out in some of these games. A superstar just wouldn't let that happen.

For fit and if we are replacing Z, I would rather have Dirk. But if you want to go younger I would look at a guy like Okur...great shooter, good rebounder, he would "fit" in my opinion.

I am prob. to far down on Bosh, he was great in the Olympics, but overall I just think there would be better cheaper fits.

I would like Okur, but really can't see Dirk being as effective at center.

if we ever got Dirk he would play the 4 most of the time with AV at the 5....he could do 5 to 15 min a night at the 5 though depending on match ups.
