Lowe Or Ollie

Post#1 » by krustytheclown » Tue Dec 23, 2008 1:09 am

With Tex seemingly signing in a few days(looks like the redsox) Boras will move on to lowe and ollie. With the redsox most likely signing boras and the yanks already spending like crazy that takes away our 2 likey competiors for lowe. So lets hear it who would you rather have?

Id rather get Ollie first, mainly because he is a lefty and under Manual he seemed to really turn it around. Now whether that was a contract year performance or not, I dont know. However with Lowe he will command bigger money but will eat innings and keep you in the game. Id go with Ollie and lock him up but really pitch a 1-2 year deal to Lowe. I doubt he would be interested in that because he is trying to cash in though.

Santana
Maine
Pelfrey

We still need two starters so there is room for them both as well as Neise, Garland, Garcia, Pedro amongst others. Still a lot of be figured out.

Got to disagree with you on this one. Ollie just drives me too crazy. Sandy Koufax one game; David West the next. So, if he's a asking for something goofy like $12-15 million/year over 4 years, forgetaboutit. Now something like $8-10 million for 3 years and an club option, then I'm interested.

I think Lowe is much more reliable from game to game. And Lowe is also known as a big game pitcher. I would go $12 - 15 per year over 3 with an option for a 4th.

Lowe is way more consistant.

Ollie was quite average last year.

Looking at Lowe's last 4 years, his won/loss wasn't great at 54-48, but his ERA Plus each season was:

114, 124, 118, 131

and his innings pitched were 222, 218, 199, 211.

He hasn't missed a start in the 7 years he's been a starter.

He's had a whip of 1.25, 1.26, 1.27, 1.13
Lets look at Ollie.

He had a nice 2007, but he missed a few games.

15-10, 29 starts, 177 innings. ERA+ of 120

2008 was uglier. he made every start, but

10-7, 194 innings, ERA+ of 100.

Ollie had a whip of 1.31 in 2007 and 1.40 in 2008

Lowe's just plain better.

Ollie's younger. Ollie is a lefty, but Lowe is the safer bet. It's not even that close.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Double standard?

It looks like it's close to happening.

Boston.com, the Boston Globe Web site, is reporting with a background source that Derek Lowe is close to a deal with the New York Mets. The post indicates the deal could be three to four years in the neighborhood of $15MM/season.

15 Million for four seasons? Eh Id rather go with other options but you know what your getting with Lowe. Id preferred Ollie over Lowe, but I cant complain. Solid veteran, eats innings and knows the postseason.
