dirk is the 3rd softest superstar in nba history. is he good...yes. will he lead a team to a title...hell no. what i dont understand about dallas is they keep replacing dirks role players like it is always their fault, but then all those role players go elsewhere and succeed. (nash 2 mvp's, finley nba title, devin harris probable most improved player, etc.) now you hate on terry, howard etc, and they would probably go somewhere else and win also. dirk is the problem because he is so soft. there was a time you could have traded dirk and got kg. that may go down as the worst non move in nba history. then, to cap that off, you made the worst trade in nba history with the harris for kidd swap. you wanted to win now, and werent worried about the future. but although devin will be around longer, im not so sure he wasnt already better than kidd when the trade happened, and God knows harris is better now.
your lineup right now could be harris, terry, howard, garnett, damp.
thats nba championship material.
p.s.: before any1 jumps my case and tries to dis the rockets thinking thats going to hurt me, know this first..., the 2 superstars i think are softer than dirk are t-mac and yao. i know the rox are soft, so you dont even have to go there.

^LOL, just..LOL.
Yes b/c a player "getting better" has nothing to do with development, another team's system tailored around you, or being washed up and riding an already established championship team for a ring. Yes it's all Dirk's fault, he was holding back everyone. Too bad, he doesn't get on all fours and bark at players 4-6 inches shorter than him like KG does (boy that's really tough). Maybe then Howard and Terry will turn into Pierce and Allen

If Nash and Harris were role players, then Yao = the biggest role player in the NBA

@mcgrady: this is actually the most stupid post i've ever read on this board. Pure hating. Play-Off Dirk is putting up 25/11/3 + 1 stl + 1 blk per game! That's damn soft isn't it?

Dirk is definitely soft on the pick-and-roll, though that's largely based on his lack of good lateral movement. Seriously, all a team has to do is run the pick-and-roll with Dirk's man, and a decent perimeter player will eat us alive all day along. The same can be said for Damp and Diop, too, though.
I just wonder how good our playoff defense can be can when all a coach has to say offensively is, "Hey big guys, go set a pick for [insert top PG/SG/SF here] and either roll to the basket or pop out for a jumper."

You dont know what the hell you are talking about. What has Nash accomplished in Phoenix that the Mavs have not accomplised since his departure. Nothing in fact, no rings, hasnt even taken his team past the WCF's. Lets not start with his back to back MVP's, what a sham that is.
Finley didnt win his ring as a leader on that team like he was in Dallas. He was a role player. But im happy for him. Finley is good people.
Harris however, I agree with you. He has a contract beyond 2010 that would make landing a big free agent a bit hard than it even is now, but its a huge gamble.
Cuban is hoping that Kidd might resign for bottom dollar, we trade a few assets. Resign minimal players like Bass and attract a high profile impact player. Big gamble.

He comes over almost every 2-3 days (here recently) to post a Mav hating post. I guess he thinks if he trash talks us enough we will start believing the crap coming from his mouth. Well, he's wasting his breathe, time and fingerstrokes.

just keep on thinking dirk will take you to greatness. but when he retires without accomplishing anything, ill comeback and say "i told you so." he is no KG, he is no Duncan, he is no d. howard, he wasnt even as good as chris webber. hes a soft loser, and youll realize that at his retirement speech

Take that back...now he is averaging every other day.I first stared noticing his trash talking way back when picking on Howard was the thing to do knowing he has an Artest pick in his sig yet doing everything he can to **** on Mav players and idolize Rocket players.

Get KG's fake ass out of that sentence too, he has never lead his team thru the playoffs like Dirk has without his buddies Paul and Ray Ray.

Dallas needs to start making trades now that can help them be more attractive in 2010.
1. Trade Bass. If we keep him, we will resign him, and a) we will ove pay him like we did with Diop, Stackhouse, Terry, ect and he just hasnt improved enough on last year to really invest time in him. I'd love to package him with Diop and/or Stack and get maybe a 2 year deal and a pick. Diop/Stack really dont make this team any worse as long as we get some center backup back to us in trade and Singleton probably can do just as good a job at the backup PF position as Bass, due to his work ethic. Then in the 2009 draft, we will have that draft pick + ours and maybe we can trade into the top 10 and get a future starter for this team, that will be on a low salary which would be pefect in 2010.
2. Get rid of Diop. If not packaged with Bass, we really need to find a way to get rid of Diop. He is so average on this team, and probably in general. We dont use him enough for him to make an impact on this game and we dont have enough offense at the other positions (or offense in the paint) that we can play him alot and other players will score inside like centers need to do. Diop needs to go to a team with a bigman scorer in the paint.
3. Either let Kidd go elsewhere or sign him to a 1 year contract. Dwayne Wade should be the player that we target in the 2010 market. He is exactly what this team needs besides LBJ and I dont think LBJ would come here. Wade is a slasher/scorer that makes Dirk a #2 and really would solve the problem of our jumpshooting only team.
4. Id say trade Terry, but that probably makes us a much worse team and I think Dallas needs to stay competitive enough that free agents think just adding them will put us up into contender. Most teams with cap room will be lottery teams (maybe we are that too) so Dallas' main appeal is that we can be contenders with them.

Quoted for truth.
I tracked the 67-15 run religiously and almost all of the games we were playing like we didn't care and for some reason managed to come up with the W. I don't know why everyone else likes to bring that up as proof of Dallas's superiority; if that was any other season we'd be dead.
