ReDempTion! MN - UTAH - NYK

Post#1 » by the_bruce » Thu Dec 25, 2008 12:54 am

Minnesota Timberwolves
Incoming Players: Stephon Marbury, Kyrylo Fesenko
Outgoing Players: Rashad McCants, Jason Collins, Mike Miller

New York Knicks
Incoming Players: Rashad McCants, Jason Collins, Jarron Collins, Kyle Korver
Outgoing Players: Stephon Marbury

Utah Jazz
Incoming Players: Mike Miller
Outgoing Players: Kyrylo Fesenko, Jarron Collins, Kyle Korver

Etc:
Pick adjustment of UTAH 2009\NYK pick. MN gets a pick for sure this year, it gets the better of the NYK & UTAH picks. Unless the pick is top 3 in which case MN gets the worse pick and some cash.

MN:
I hate marbury as much as the next guy. The guy is nuts. Fans will hate it, He might not even be allowed to play by the FO, he probably won't even agree to play, but if he does he could demonstrate some of his value for next year when he's a FA. Kyrylo could be some help to our small front court too. This trade breaks down to Miller for a reduction in the protection on the UTAH\NYK picks. The pick in the 22+ range turns into a pick in the 10-20 range which is probably millers value on the open market. Coupled with the MIA pick which should be in the same range MN has enough picks to hopefully move up a little bit in next years draft. MN could probably do better by simply doing a draft day trade with miller, but that's certainly another thread closer to the draft.

NYK:
They save some cash on the deal. About 5.1(~10.2 after being doubled by the lux). It also gives them a few players that can provide some on court value and doesn't extend their 2010 payroll. Korver and McCants may provide some value short term the collins brothers could be bought out immediately and sent home to play some games on XBOX. All in all they get a pretty sweet deal and probably should offer up a bit more, but not sure what value they can offer. Maybe something along the lines of if UTAH gets a top 3 pick MN gets Gallinari and NYK gets the later pick?

UTAH:
Absolutely sick imo. Miller is korver++. At full strength they run this lineup...Memo\Boozer\AK\Miller\Deron. I'm not sure how highly Kyrylo is valued, but in the end this trade breaks down to whether Miller pushes them into the playoffs or not. NYK is probably at the end of the lotto or maybe a late playoff berth in the weak east, and in the event they hit the jackpot with a top 3 pick Utah retains the pick. In the end Utah trades a pick in the 10-20 range + Korver for miller.

I'd do it just for the pure hilarity of having Jason, Jarron and Mardy Collins all on one team.

I would need to look into the speculation on the picks but it is an interesting idea. my concern is mike actually wants to be here and I hesitate to move him unless in a package for a better guy. getting a mid round pick in a weak draft does not do it for me.

I thought about this a bit more and made a non steph version, which is probably more palettable.

did I miss anything or is there no mention of lessening the protection of the pick we already own?

or amI just too drunk to see it?

anyway, unless this is a guaranteed lotto pick I wouldn't touch it

and I also doubt Utah does it with Boozer being out and having a really thin big men rotation

Memo, Paul Millsap (who they are VERY high on as a possible replacement and Kosta Koufos isnt necessarily thin up front.
