Curious about Darko
Whats the deal with this guy? I have heard conflicting reports on him, why doesn't he get more minutes? Can he play the 4 or is he strictly a back up center ? Is his attitude as piss poor as I've heard?
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

Re: Curious about Darko
He will probably go back overseas when his contract is up and sign a lucrative deal in Europe and retire there.
He wants to be an offensive player like he was in Europe and doesn't like having to be a defensive guy because it shortens your career, look at Ben Wallace. He plays basketball because he is good at it not because he loves the game. He wants to make the big money and then get out of basketball.
He honestly is a mid grade starting center in this league when it comes down to it, but is more effective off the bench for a 2nd unit.

Yeah, just look at Dikembe Mutombo and Dennis Rodman.

Re: Curious about Darko
Thanks for your curiosity, but I'm actually straight and have a girlfriend. Very flattering though.
Oh.... crap... didn't read the post. Hmm yes Darko is an odd guy eh? Ist the comments he made about the refs mother and now he'd be happier back in Europe? I think he and Kwame were two reasons Stern moved to stop highschool drafting.

He isn't as bad as people make him out to be.
Was he worth the #2 pick in the draft? Hell no. Is he a serviceable big man? Definitely.
He's a decent rebounder, good shot blocker and has some touch around the basket. He has a bit of a motor and attitude on the floor too, which I like from big men. He's just got to slow down at times and control his emotions better.

Darko tends to get into foul trouble. He typically gets at least one moving pick/screen offensive foul per game, and he tends to foul quick guards that beat their man of the dribble and drive the lane.
As for man-to-man defense, he's one of the better players in the league IMO. It's the one area of the game that he excels in, but it's not something that's reflected in box scores.

He can play the four. The Grizz have started him at the 4 with M. Gasol at the 5 for a handful of games: most recently, the Lakers game on this past monday. The two play well together, however due to fouls and a lack of size up front beyond those two - typically, the only time they're both on the floor (with Darko at the 4) is at the beginning of both halves for a few minutes.

Darko is a live wire. For Grizz fans, IMO it's good to finally see a big man with an attitude; however, sometimes that attitude sometimes leads to him taking himself out of a game - usually with *dumb* ordinary fouls, or occasionally technical fouls.
