I hate the NBA
After watching that Cleveland vs. Washington game. I truly do hate the NBA or maybe just what is and isn't allowed in it. There is no way the Wizards lose that game without help and there is no way in the world that the Wizards should not of been wearing the blue jersies. I'm just tired of the nut hugging. I was so up after watching the Celtics play the Lakers, but after letting the Wiz vs. Cav game sink in I'm probally out of watching the NBA until the playoffs (outside of the Wiz). I'm not sure I can watch another game decided like that.
I am Scabs.

really have to agree with you dude. It's pretty amazing how they can take the fun out of something as exciting as basketball. I'm all for admitting that my team lost and being gracious to the winner but this Cleveland act is just old now. In a way, I'm glad we're missing the playoffs so I can watch other teams get screwed and save the aggravation. I sat there watching that game tonight, and was so proud that my team was going to win on a nationally televised, Christmas day game and then it was completely taken away by absurdity. And in the end, no one will question it or care because we're a 4-22 team. So much for having something to cheer about.

Just think how much more you'd hate it if we were a playoff-caliber team and then got robbed like we usually do against Cleveland.

I thought the Celtics got jobbed by officials just as much as the Wizards did. Boston didn't get a FT in the first half although players got hit going to the basket at least four or five times.
In the second half of the Celtics game there was a key offensive foul on Rondo that I thought should have gone the other way and a few other no calls on obvious Laker fouls.
Scabs, I was very upset with the way the refs took Washington out of the game but I saw the same kind of officiating in the Bos/LA game. I've hated NBA officiating for a while now.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: I hate the NBA
Anyone who doesn't believe the NBA is rigged to a great extent is in complete denial. It's painfully obvious watching the games that this league clearly favors ratings and nothing else. The part about integrity was lost a long long time ago.
Today I saw my team fight its way to a lead in the last two minutes but I knew the outcome already and how it would happen. Guess what? The refs totally jobbed us again. Awarded Cleveland absolutely phantom calls and gave us nothing the other way.
I'm not even going to blame the team. It's easy to understand the frustration these guys feel when they know that despite what they do, the refs will only be calling the game for one side. It happens to a certain extent in every sport, but in the NBA its absolutely ridiculous.

what a bunch of whiners. Butler brushed lebron's elbow, when I was trying out for my college team (don't ask) they taught us to do that because it ALWAYS makes you miss and it's hard to see. Butler got caught red handed and that's that.
The charging call was complete bs though.

Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

I love how everyone thinks we're whining like this was some important game to give us playoff position or something. Open you're f'ing eyes people. We deserved to win this game up by 7 with a couple minutes to go and we were completely robbed. I'm not sure how ANYONE can argue otherwise. It was an absolute joke.

You're an idiot.
P'Oed's point was just the opposite. Clearly, we suck as a team and our season is over. We have little interest in winning any particular game. That gives us more objectivity. The calls were so bad that we're really p1$$ed off DESPITE the fact that we no longer care about winning games.

No - we were 4-22 because we've been a crap team. We are now 4-23 because the refs favored Cleveland down the stretch of a close game (again).

I was not responding to POED directly, If I wanted to do that I would have quoted his remark and then countered with my statement.....just like anyone else.
My comment was directed towards the group as a whole. I mean complaining about the refs EVERY time you play Cleveland? Its quite trivial

believe what you want. Last night won't go unnoticed to Wiz fans because it was without a doubt the most obvious Cleveland work, set-up, fix....whatever the hell you want to call it. Like Nate just explained, we know we suck. We were 4-22 because we're just plain awful this year. But we finally had something to be happy about on a nationally televised Christmas day game against Lebron in Cleveland and we were absolutely hosed. Now we get to here about how "heroic" their comeback win was. It makes me sick to my f'ing stomach.
I feel like the road to an NBA Championship just got 20,000 miles longer. I mean look at all the BS you have to overcome. What are teams like the Wizards going to have to do to start getting these calls that other teams get? It's like there's no point in watching or even being a fan anymore. David Stern doesn't give a crap but he's close to losing a passionate NBA fan like me.

Yeah the officiating was rough, but I'm not ready to call a consipracy here. The Wizards drew fewer fouls because they did a lot more jumpshooting on offense and on defense contested a number of layups at the hoop. That's going to put a team in a free throw deficit 9 times out of 10, but 99 out of 100 times on the road. Add in the fact that the wizards had an intentional foul at the end of the 2nd and two at the end of the 4th, there was nothing surprising about the box score foul count.
Lebron got a bail out in the 4th with almost no contact, but it was very similar to the call that Jamison got at 4:16 left in the second. Jamison was laughing at the Refs when he went to the line. Players shouldn't laugh when they get a bad call in their favor. Refs remember that. All 6 of Jamison's fouls came in the 28 minutes after that.
When Mo drew the charge, that was a pretty close call on a fast play. Probably should have been blocking on Mo or a no call, but it isn't surpirsing to see a short guard from the home team get the call in those situations. Jamison's lucky he didn't get a technical because of all of his complaining.
Jamison fouled Varejao as if he thought the Refs owed him a no call at this point. Refs were probably thinking Jamison was lucky they hadn't given him a tech.
Butler plowed over Ben Wallace.
End of game.

Since you're OBVIOUSLY not a Wizards fan, I don't believe that you have the right to say how 'trivial' it is that we complain every time. Yes, we do complain every time, but that's because it happens every time. Just a hunch, but I think we know more about Cavs-Wizards games than you do, so I think we understand what happens at the end of games better.

Re: I hate the NBA
I don't think there is any league-wide conspiracy to help certain teams or anything like that. If that were the case why have the NEW YORK Knicks sucked so bad while the SAN ANTONIO Spurs have dominated?
However, officials are affected by the aura of the superstar and tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't think league execs push them otherwise either. Makes me marvel at the dominance the Spurs have showed even more since they've won four titles with no real "star" power(Duncan is a star on the court but not in the superficial sense like a Lebron or Wade).
It is what it is. Our best bet was to hope Gil would develop into that kind of player that would let us be on the benefit, but that remains to be seen...

Tim Duncan is my favorite Non-Wizard in the NBA. He's everything you want in a basketball player, and frankly, in a human being. He doesn't self-promote himself every chance he gets (cough...Lebron...Cough). He doesn't try and be a fake tough guy by attacking little players (cough... KG..cough). Heck, the only commercial I've ever remember him being in was his rookie one with the shaving cream, and one addidas commercial.
Tim Duncan is the model that all NBA players should aspire to be.

I didn't see anyone in this thread complain about the refereeing until the final 2 minutes. Things matter quite a bit more at the end of the game and it's impossible to deny. This is the worst hose job I can remember (outside of most Duke games).
Who cares if the refs blow a call in the 2nd quarter, that is bound to happen from time to time. But when the refs CLEARLY give 4 or 5 consecutive bogus calls to one team in the final 1:40 of a game... something is up. Two charges, the first where Mo moved under Jamison after he was already in the air, PLUS mo was still moving in the first place. A loose ball foul where AJ had position on a rebound, Varejao went over the back, grabbed the rebound and still drew a foul call. A complete phantom 3 point call on 'Bron and the call right before where Lebron drew another questionable call.
I also read a couple other reviews of this game and they explained how Cleveland got the calls at the end of the game because they were being the more aggressive team. Yet, we got 2 charges called on us to end the game. Isn't a charge pretty much the definition of being OVER-aggressive on offense?
Oh and to MHD, Duncan also had a commercial a couple years back about how he didn't need to use words, his stare down was just the most intimidating thing to be on the receiving side of. It was pretty funny, but I can't remember what the product was. Insurance or something similarly unrelated I'm sure.

You know I'm one of those guys, who doesn't even talk about the refs or even think about them during the game, but little by little I'm starting to really believe what's posted in bold.
I mean, they favor specific players so much, it's really ridiculous. I just heard last night on Lebron's 24th birthday, NBAtv is gonna have a special 24 hour marathon of ALL LEBRON GAMES!!
I mean c'mon!! Do you ever see the NFL showing that for peyton manning's birthday?
or the MLB doing that for Derek Jeter's birthday??
I've never seen such a league go so much out of their way to cater to their star players. It just takes away from the team aspect of the game.
In MLB, it's always yankees/red sox
NFL.....colts/pats....steelers/ravens....redskins/cowboys...
NBA??? Lebron vs. Kobe...Kobe vs. Wade...Lebron vs. Melo....Lebron vs. Wade... blah blah blah etc...
same old thing, they advertise their star players and don't advertise the team game, so that's why they gotta make sure they always look great to the public 100% of the time because that in essence is their league....
I posted something similar on the celtics board about refs and nba rigged topic (lol it seems everyone has a topic about this in one way or another)
this was the op:
MaxwellSmart wrote:The refs GIFT WRAP the game to the Cavs.....Down 7 points with 1:23 left....Phantom foul on a missed LeBron 3 pointer-----3 free throws...NOW they'll win this game....COMPLETELY given the game by the refs.
magicfan4life05 wrote:
I've always had silly thoughts go thru my mind all the time about the NBA and refs, but always just dismissed thinking calls have be to legitimate because by now, I'm sure we would have seen evidence to prove they were not.
But then games like last night truly make you wonder and just other stuff in general like how refs will wait to call a shooting foul after they know whether the shot will go in or not, charge/block, perimeter ticky tack fouls, the whole term of "superstar calls" ???
I know it's been in the league forever, but just guys just think about it, the whole idea of a "superstar call" just goes against the legitimacy of the game, you are basically saying if your name is 'superstar name' you are going to get the benefit of the doubt and get questionable calls (especially in key critical moments of a game), whereas another scrub player might get the same contact or more and not get called anything. Just call the game fair and make the right call, they are too concerned with who is making the play instead of the actual correct call of the basketball play.
