Steve Nash may not make the all-star game? Are you kidding!

Post#1 » by SUNSARETHEBEST » Fri Dec 26, 2008 3:02 am

http://www.nba.com/2008/news/12/25/1225 ... index.html

The all-star returns were just realeased and Nash is in 7th place almong the west guards. I know he may be older and his numbers arn't as high but it's a joke with some of the players named before him

Guards
Player Votes
Kobe Bryant (LAL) 1,280,912
Tracy McGrady (HOU) (746,098)
Chris Paul (NO) 725,251
Manu Ginobili (SA) 386,846
Tony Parker (SA) 358,107
Jason Kidd (Dal) 299,107
Steve Nash (Pho) 281,909

I can understand players like Kobe, Paul or even Parker but the often injured T-Mac who never got out of the first round? A washed up Jason Kidd who's older than Nash and a guy that Nash is clearly better than? Even that ass clown Ginobili has more votes than Nash and he's having a horrible season.

It will be a crying shame if Nash doesn't make this all-star game specifically since it's in Phoenix and all. We can try to change it though, there's 25 days of voting left, remember to vote for Nash every day and tell your friends, family and neighbors to also!

I dunno..The system isn't helping, though he's clearly lost a step (had at least 3 turnovers today where he was DIRECTLY to blame, forcing the pass.
Kidd has dropped also. Nash is lucky Deron's been out or he'd be below him too....

I'd rank those guys in terms of All Star 'cred':
Paul
Kobe
ROY - WHERE THE HELL IS THIS CAT?
Parker
Billups - not on the list, but should be
Nash / McGrady - he's helping his team WIN. granted he has China, but still...
Kidd
Terry
Ginobili

There's something REALLY wrong with fan voting when Greg Oden has more votes than Al Jefferson, and Alston has more than Billups and Roy

Both good points, and I think both can be addressed by the system: voting. period. Its a popularity contest much much more than it is a talent contest. I mean sunsarethebest you're exactly right, why in the world is TMac ahead of Nash? Its just because of his name. Why Ginobli and Parker? Bandwagon fans due to the recent rings.

And TASTIC, +1 on your ranking. That's exactly what the "problem" is with having the fans vote - your TMacs and Yao Mings (because there are a trillion people in China) get those votes, and thats why the good players who are stuck in smaller markets like you said with Roy have to wait to have the coaches vote em in.

I think the verdict is we have to look at the Allstar game for what it is - pure entertainment, a gimmick. Fans pick the players whose jerseys they have, rappers etc show up at the game, you know what I mean.

That's not even my biggest problem (the Alston and TMAC thing) ... HOW IS YI AHEAD OF BOSH? HOW IS DEVIN HARRIS NOT A STARTER FOR THE EAST? BULL SH*T. And Nash will probably make it as a backup. These are just votings for starers, remember, the coaches choose backups, and I'm sure one of Nash/Kidd/Billups will be on there.

The fan voting is only for the starters, and the coaches vote in the rest. Alston and T-mac get all those votes because of the Yao factor. Nash should be in over Kidd, but at this point Parker and Paul are better all round at the PG position. Nash is still a top 5 PG, but is clearly losing a step or 5.

Nash is my favorite NBA player, but I'm no homer and I'm fine with him being 7th with the way he's playing at the moment. What does piss me off is how guys like Yi and Tmac getting all them votes from China. I'm not annoyed that the whole of China are fans of Yi, Mac, Yao, but i hate how it's basically putting them in the same ranks (vote-wise) as guys like Harris, Roy (my top 5 fav), Billups etc etc. These are guys who are putting up All-Star numbers at the very least.

I like Tastic's list.

Annoys me how guys like Billups (playing as the Nuggs best player right now), Roy (best player on a winning team) aren't on the list. It's ridiculous. Hopefully the coaches choose WORTHY backups.

What is with this lose a step thing people keep talking about? I don't see him declining. I see him being a product of a disjointed team and offense. Just because he has been getting TOs does not mean he is losing a step. Nor does he seem to be slower or having declining skills. Just my two cents.

the reason for this is that it is a popularity contest.

apparently Yi has more fans than KG and jkidd has more fans than nash.
that or those nash/KG fans out there arent voting.

Sometimes I think they should just do away with online voting. if the NBA can limit the amount of redundant votes I think the voting would be more fair.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nash doesn't make the all - star game. He's been exposed in Porter's half court offefnsive sets. He's not a half court system pg. He's better off in a system where the coach gives full freedom to the pg and lets them run and gun.

Not surprisingly, the Suns have looked so much better the last 3 weeks or so.

There's a difference between "halfcourt sets" and "watch Shaq for 20 seconds". He's not good at the latter, but he's more than competent at the former.

steve nash might not get voted in, he has the same stat line as his last year in dallas when he didn't make the all star game. that was his only year for the past 7 seasons where he didnt make the game. basically out of the last 8 years this has been his worst season.

it'd be a shame for nash not to get into the allstar game, but he hasn't really been playing like one ... the plus side is he has politics on his side, since the Suns are hosting the game.

EDIT : when i say voted in i mean by the coachs for the reserves.

The NBA is crazy these days.
But don't be surprised Nash doesn't make it.

I think Roy will make it.
