Comparison: PJ Brown Vs. Joe Smith

Im disapointed that we wont get Mutombo, but more I look at J.Smith more I think he is a better player for out needs and how good PJ worked last year I will made comparison PJ Vs. Smith:

PJ BROWN / JOE SMITH

age: 39 / 33
height: 6-11 / 6-10
weight: 108 / 102
years pro: 15 / 13

I will compare PJ O6/07 season and Smith last years season because the minutes are similar.

06/07 Chicago / 07/08 Chi/Cle
games: 72 /77
min: 20,2 / 22,2
points: 6,1 / 9,6
rebounds: 4,8 / 5,1
fg: 40% / 48%
ft: 78% / 72%

Their stats look pretty similar, but we all know it is not about stats...

Sure Pj is a better defensive presence and player, but Smith is better and more skilled offensive player. They both can hit mid range jumper, are consistent and know the game. True veteran players.

Despite Pj being better defensive player also Smith defense is ok and him being 6 years younger, with more left in him, hungrier for the ring I after all this see him as a more suitable player than Mutombo for our style of play.

Just remember his play against us in last year playoff, he made our life miserable with his mid range jumpers and consistent play...

He really would be ideal here, but only way we can get him if Oklahoma cuts him, because other teams can get Oklahoma better packages in a trade.

If we could get him, than we only have to find a solid sf and that could be enough for repeating!

I just watched J. Smith in last years 5.game of the conference finals against Cleveland.

I must add to the previous post that he is very good at setting screens and a good pick and roll big guy. His mid range jumper is very similar to kg.

Also his frame is similar to kg and he is not so weak I though before, he and Pj guarded each other in some situations in that game and looked pretty even.

Joe Smith is perfect for our style of play. But I do see him being traded elsewhere. Other teams can offer better packages than us. If only Scal was expiring...

I'd prefer to see Boston acquire both players if it's possible. Smith stated he wanted to be traded a while back so I wouldn't be surprised if there is no trade.

It's not simply a 35 year old 6' 9.5" guy (Joe's Orlando pre-draft),
versus a 39 year old 6' 10" guy (PJ's Orlando pre-draft measurement w/o shoes).

Joe's a lot more mobile at this point, laterally,
the difference is significant.

Joe has shot considerably better from the field the last few years,
undistinguished as it is,
Joe is a jump shooting big man,
WAY BETTER than Glen Davis in that regard, two inches taller,
a better passer, with a better vertical.

It's Joe all the way in terms of taking Glen Davis' minutes.

And, in games where Powe is not able to establish himself as a low post presence,
Davis could still throw his weight around.

The Celtics are obviously going to hope for a buyout on this one,
since they don't want to give up much for a 35 year old who could simply sign with them
this summer if he wanted to.

In a way, that's the same problem with Grant Hill.

Since Grant Hill will also be a free agent this summer,
the Celtics will probably just wait him out,
and see if he wants to sign with them.
