The Window Has Closed

Post#1 » by return2glory » Sat Dec 27, 2008 9:17 am

At least we won last year. I'm grateful for that. But our window has closed. Here is why.

1. KG and Pierce can't take over games anymore. Pierce scored 0 points in the 4th quarter vs the Lakers. In the G.S. game, Pierce had 13 in the 1st and 8 in the last 3 quarters.

KG can't even dominate against a team that doesn't have a true center. 14 points and 4 rebounds in what I expect from Powe in 38 minutes, not a guy making $20 million and year. I don't blame KG, I blame father time.

2. Rondo is still scared to shot from the outside. For those of you that think Rondo is an all star, think again. While Rondo has improved, he still has trouble finishing and still is afraid of taking open 18 footers.

3. The bench sucks. We lack height and shot blocking from the bench. We also lack offense. The only regular offense we get is from House. When House struggles with his shot, our bench becomes a no factor and one of the worst benches in the league.

Our owners made a decision about repeating by not re signing James Posey. I'm sorry but Tony Allen is not the answer.

This team is not a good as last season and now the record backs it up. 27-4 vs 29-3 from last year. Posey and Brown helped add depth to this team, both are gone. The Cavs and the Lakers have improved.

There is still some hope. The only way that we can contend with the Cavs and Lakers is by:
1. Somehow signing Mutombo and cutting Cassell. Cassell can be an assistant coach.
2 A. Somehow getting Joe Smith if the Thunder by him out. We can cut POB, since the team doesn't plan of playing him.
2 B. If we can't get Smith, then we have trade for a player like Hakim Warrick.
3. Replace TA in the rotation with Giddens or Walker. I loved Tony but he can't help this team win anymore.

Ainge has got some hard work infront of him, but I have faith in the guy. But this current team won't beat up the Cavs.

No only do I believe it and know it. Our team is one of the best teams in the league. We should win 60 games or more but this curent team will not beat the Cavs or the Fakers. They couldn't even beat the Warriors without Monte, Maggette, and Crawford. We have had an easy schedule by playing 18 our our first 31 at home.

Besides, we aren't 24-4, we are 27-4. And just because you don't agree with me, you don't need to call be names. Have some class.

My bad for resorting to insults. You've my apology sir, and I do think you raise some good points.
I'm just not in the best mood, having just got off a 7 hour flight back home only to find out we lost this game and get harassed by about 10 friends who are from the Bay Area. I'm just sick of this reactionary posts in general. I agree the bench is terrible, but judging KG and Pierce like this is just wrong. They still take over when needed! It's unrealistic to expect them to bring it every game, especially on back-to-backs though. Plus, every good teams lose to bottom feeders. Hell, the Lakers lost to Heat and Kings. And to be quite honest I could give a **** less how many games we win in the regular season so long as we're there, and well rested for the playoffs. That's how the Spurs have had sustained success as their players age.

They don't take over when needed anymore. That's the frustrating part. I watched every second of the game. We needed Pierce and KG to take over because Ray Allen fouled out early. None of them stepped up. That's twice in the last two games that Pierce hasn't done anything in the 4th qaurter.

Perkins didn't play today and we needed a big game from KG. Instead we got 14 and only 4 rebounds in 38 minutes from him. They tried to take over, but they couldn't. That was the most frustrating thing.

It's one game, and I feel like they expended a lot of energy yesterday against the Lakers. I think it's really unfair to pass judgment based on these two games alone. I do believe Pierce had back-to-back games against the Raptors and Hawks where he absolutely dominated down the stretch to clinch both wins. And don't forget how KG dominated the second game against Atlanta down the stretch.

I know it's easy to forget these games after two hard losses in a row, but KG and Pierce are still both elite players in this league. And you and I both know they'll turn it around - especially after this loss. Look for them to come out locked and loaded and start steamrolling some teams again.

Stupidest thread of the month by far.

KG recentl won a game by taking over in the 4th and scoring 12+ points. paul has done it at least8-10 times this year. So that goes out the window.

Rondo is afraid to shoot, I agree.

The bench doesnt suck. TA shouldnt even be in the game. He is killing the bench by constantly turning the ball over. He is the worst player who gets consistent minutes.

So relax for the love of God will you!!!

LMAO. I thought you would've learned not to make these absurd, panic, overreaction threads after your "This is NOT a championship team!" threads after every loss last year. Anyways, I'll bite and address your ridiculousness...

#1: KG and Pierce can't take over games? What did Pierce do against the Raptors? What did KG do against the Hawks?

#2: Rondo was "scared" to shoot outside shots last year and we won a title. He doesn't have problems finishing anymore, either. He is tied with KG for the 2nd highest FG% in the NBA on inside shots at 73.5%. http://www.82games.com/0809/FGSORT12.HTM

#3: Our bench doesn't suck. It's not as good as last year, it's inconsistent and can certainly be improved...but it doesn't suck. It also looks worse in comparison to last year due to Doc not leaving starters in with them nearly as much as he did last year. Come playoff time, this won't happen.

The improvement of Perkins and Rondo has off set to loss of bench players like Posey and PJ (if he's even gone).

Boston went on a slump in a Western road trip last season and people started panicking too.

Well, guys, as much as I disagree with all the points about how the OP feels, please keep it respectful. If someone wants to freak and be all stressed out or whatever, just don't read their threads. Thanks.

They didn't really let PP take over the game. Tough because we had 4 perimeter players down the stretch and they could easily help off of Tony and Rondo's man. Shows you much we need Ray and Perk to space our offense. They were giving extra help to defend Pierce, and were able to guard KG one on one. I'm mad at KG because he was fading. I liked what he did in the atlanta game against Josh Smith, but he was backing Turiaf down only to take highly contested fades. In Atlanta he got the the middle of the paint for about 5 ft hooks. I like that much more, and I'm pretty sure he couldv'e got to that spot against Turiaf. He has the ability to draw fouls if he gets to that spot, but he rarely does it. He's unstoppable when he gets deep post position.

return2glory, you at one point last year said we weren't going to win. You have a history of these kinds of posts. I've made the same mistake before, and I have family members just like you.

The truth is, we lost two games, so people are simply overreacting. The window has closed? LMAO

Did it close when we were on a 19 game winning streak? Nope, it was open then. LOL, then we lose on Thursday and Friday, so its closed. There is a tendency amongst Celtics fans, that as soon as we look human for a change, that the window has closed. That is wrong, you know it deep down inside.

KG can't take over games in the 4th because of father time? LOL!! Wasn't he the hero a couple of nights ago against Atlanta in the 4th? LOL

Pierce isn't big time anymore? LOL, c'mon.....its the mentality of your only as good as you last game.

If we win 10 straight I'm sure the window will open again... :D
Ray still got game.

Your proven wrong over and over again. Why do you still make these threads.

I understand the outbursts by pessimistic fans in the game threads. But threads like these are just wrong. You contradict yourself too much..

There is still some hope. The only way that we can contend with the Cavs and Lakers is by:
1. Somehow signing Mutombo and cutting Cassell. Cassell can be an assistant coach.

3. Replace TA in the rotation with Giddens or Walker. I loved Tony but he can't help this team win anymore.

3. We traded T.A. for Hakim Warrick. How can you possibly make that move. Who did you think you were going to replace TA with, Giddens, Walker, they should be in the Developmental League.

Our team has beaten Cleveland, Detroit twice, Houston, Atlanta twice, New Orleans, Utah and Portland.

These are all sure playoff teams.

They lose back to back on back to back nights on the opposite end of our country and your giving up on them?

Now I agree that we need some more size on our bench, but the notion that our window's closed is one I will argue until this team gets knocked out of the playoffs 3 years in a row.

This thread is a **** joke... if you can't appreciate how good this team is and how lucky we are as fans right now you should just jump ship. Every good team hits a few bumps in the road. The window is closed? Look, no matter how good a team is no championship is guaranteed, just ask the Pats. Just ask the Shaq-Kobe-Malone-Payton Lakers. But we've got as good or better a chance to win than any team in the league. These reactionary threads so god damned stupid, we're 27-4!!!! 27-4!!!!! I really need to stop reading these threads.....
