2010 Pro Bowl to be played pre-Super Bowl in Miami

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:25 pm

MIAMI -- The Pro Bowl will be played one week before the Super Bowl in 2010 and both games will be staged in Dolphin Stadium, a person directly involved in the decision told The Associated Press on Monday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not announced the move.

It's not a new notion to have the game moved up to take place between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. The NFL has discussed it multiple times in recent years, and commissioner Roger Goodell told the AP last month that having the game precede the Super Bowl would avoid a "somewhat anticlimactic" ending to the season.

The Pro Bowl has been held in Honolulu since 1980, and it's probable that the game will return to Hawaii after 2010, although not on the permanent basis as has been the case over the last three decades.

I honestly don't think this a good idea. Now players from the conference championship teams, both winners and losers, won't want to play. I'm sure they'll stand on the sidelines in respect for the fans, but the need for alternates will go up.

Thoughts?

This doesn't make any sense.....

The location, fine. But, the date.

It really doesn't make any sense. It has to be wrong. No one would want to get hurt before the Super Bowl.

I actually really like the move. There is nothing between the conference championship and the Super Bowl. Obviously the guys playing in the Super Bowl will not be playing in the Pro Bowl, but reserves can be filled.

The Pro Bowl just never gets watched anymore, so maybe this can help a bit.

I just want them to keep having the skills competitions every year. The strongman and fastest man stuff is entertaining.

I think this makes sense. The Pro Bowl is more likely to fill a hunger for football before the Super Bowl than after it. Plus it's good for the Superbowl host city if it's there, since this gives bookends to the Superbowl party week. It won't change the fact that I won't be watching it. It's an inherently crappy game and that can't be fixed.

Makes a lot of sense. No one cares about the Pro Bowl as is, so this move will get it more attention, because people are still thinking football with the Super Bowl left to go. Obviously, none of the Super Bowl players will be playing, but they probably wouldn't have played with the game after the SB anyways. Worth a shot.

Sucks for the Super Bowl players who want to play. Even if that's just one player.

It's a horrible move. You're robbing the players of a paid vacation to Hawaii (what the Pro Bowl really is anyway) and risking the chance of a player getting injured a week before the Superbowl.

I'd just dump media week. Then there wouldn't be the two-week wait. It's not like I'm watching an All-Star game in any sport, regardless of when it is.

Great idea. Maybe people will actually watch the pro bowl because of this.

I still think that the Pro-bowl should just be a recognition instead of an actual game.
