TI:Larry Hughes unhappy in Chitown

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Sun Dec 28, 2008 3:48 pm

Larry Hughes could be the answer to our problems. We need a guy who wants to shoot and can create. A real 20 point a game scorer. He didn't mesh well with Lebron but he did avrage 22 with the WIzards with Gil. Here he would be the focul point of the offense something you know he would love.
He has also played for coach Brown before and he is a defensive player as well. Also we wouldn't even have to trade Bell because we know Brown loves Bell. Bell and Hughes can carry the ball up so they can be in the same backcourt for stints espially with Diaw.
He is exactly what we need. I don't know if it's possible to get him without giving up Crash but it would be worth checking into.
Maybe some contracts and our pick for this year. I would do that in a heartbeat. I would even make it unprotected.

After the Break

DJ
Hughes
Wallace
Diaw
Mek

That could be a playoff team.

LB has shipped Hughes off once, I imagine he has issues with him. Slam suggested going after Hughes a while ago, I wasn't too fond of the idea then, although I've listed him as a possible "solution" in the past as well.

I think the biggest issue is trying to figure out a trade that would work. We can't give up too much, we're talking about Larry Hughes after all...

if you can get him by trading a combo of nazr/carroll/may and ammo, sure.

his career fg% is scary.

The bonus would be that his contract is actually up before the big summer of 2010 - which would actually be an advantage of trading for him - so long as as Fats said we are giving up "bit" pieces like Nazzy, Hammer, Allm etc for him.

Hughes is only a 20 ppg scorer on bad teams where he has to carry a large load.

I mean, the guy has a website devoted to him called www.heylarryhughespleasestoptakingsomanybadshots.com

He isn't the answer, but like mentioned above he could be a role player if we gave up two of our bad contracts. I don't know that Chicago would do that though because they are probably waiting on that contract to expire also.

And the Bobcats certainly should not be giving up 1st round draft picks right now unless its for a younger star.

Larry is an expiring contract next season - so his value goes way up.

Actually, he has been a help to Chicago. i think Hughes is a little ticked that Thabo - who he is clearly better than - got to start at SF ahead of him.

I think Thabo is being showcased while Hughes is not.

Believe me, Hughes is available - but Chicago is not desperate to deal him. The unhappiness is overblown.

Chicago wants to deal Nocioni & Thabo. Hughes is not a prime trade piece right now since his contract is 2010 friendly and worth a lot in off season

I'd take Thabo and Thomas for Ammo and McMay in a heartbeat.

Not sure if the Bulls would though?

Well you said Hughes has only done well when he played on bad teams and had to carry the load. What the hell are we? A contender looking for the final role player to beat the Lakers this April or a bad team who needs a guy to carry us.
Also many said his contract is no longer bad.
Also LB shipped him out years ago. He is older now. He wants a team of his own were he can shoot alot and play alot of minutes. We should give it to him.
I wouldn't want to trade Wallace for him or anything nutty but Ammo and May and Carroll and whatever else plus a pick even if it's protected for a year or 2 could get it done.
Hughes is a system player. In the right system he is a 20 point scorer. We could be that system.

Coming from a Cavs fan, you guys do NOT want Larry Hughes. He's quoted as saying winning isn't important to him.

^^He said he wants to have fun while winning--that is a big difference. Hughes is still a great player. Dexmor is correct with the right system Hughes is a really effective player. Currently he is averaging 13 off the bench for Chicago who is loaded with guards. He's also a great defender and great slasher with superb quickness. Trust me he would be a hell of a addition to the Bobcats.

He created that website while Hughes was in Cleveland. On Cleveland Hughes was forced to take bad forced shots at the end of the shot clock due to LeBron dominating the ball so much and always making a pass with a few seconds on the shot clock. Anyone watching the Cavs would know this. Hughes needs the ball in his hand to be effective and he still had some nice games where he didn't even create for himself----hence his 40point game against Orlando last season.

He was even forced to play pg in Clevleland. Hughes in Cleveland is like Odom in LA. Even though Kobe and Lebron are great players there styles just don't mess.
Hughes would be an upgrade for JRich if he brought his A game on the defensive end.

I like what he is doing. He is only playing 26 minutes and he's not happy and he shouldn't be. He could just get paid and work part time but he wants to do more. He's not in a contract year so it's not about the money.
We can give him all he needs and more.

NO to Hughes. I don't think he creates anything but difficulties here, particularly with team chemistry, which seems finally on the upswing a bit. Despite his expiring, and even if we unloaded some bad contracts to get him (which no one wants back for him), I don't think he is our answer at the 2.

We are a young team, and need to find a quality young player to build with at SG. Most likely that comes via the draft, but if we can get a good deal on that guy via trade so be it. I just don't see LB going after Hughes.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Is LB truley the GM? He just might be here so you never know what he will do. He beged NY to bring him Steve Francis and said he would be the answer to his problems and then when he got there he didn't play him. LB is to impossible to predict.
My only prediction with him is that Sean Singlatary will get alot more pt then everybody is expecting.

You also are forgetting that Hughes can play 3 positions effectively (PG,SG,SF). He has averages of 22,6,5 with 3 steals per 48 so give him 40 mins and you get 18,4,4,2 with great defense.
