Latest Rumor: Marbury back to Minny?

Post#1 » by WallyWorld » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:55 pm

Who else was shocked to see these rumors? At first I laughed because the dork cubicle GM in me knows a trade of McCants and Telfair simply wouldnt work money wise.

Then I started thinking.

Wouldnt a Collins, Cardinal, McCants, Telfair deal work in this situation? Im too lazy to check. If this happened we would suddenly be a huge player in the 2009 free agent class. One of very few teams (only MEM and MIA, who will spend their cash on Boozer) to have 2009 cash.

This suddenly becomes a VERY interesting idea.

Heres the FA list: sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-09-10

Thoughts?

Just tried on Trade Checker, and it worked.

Neither team would do this -- shooter just invented this to fill a column, as usual.

First, NYK need Marbury's full expiring to slide in under the lux. Yes, nobody wants to pay Cardinal $6.75 mil next year, but even the knicks aren't going to pay him $13.5, plus lose $2 more by giving up their lux share. Telfair costs them $5 mil too, and he has that deal that goes into 2011.

For us, can anyone imagine Glen Taylor EVER signing off on a trade where we get Marbury?

Not a chance.

If we waived Steph immediately I would really think about this. The only incentive from a NY standpoint would be getting some of our picks in return. We would need to take back a minimum salary player for it to work roster wise, or bring back Harrison/RICHARD/Ahearn.

Anyone reading this: you have to evaluate the trade under the impression that Steph would be waived IMMEDIATELY and would never even board a jet to Minnesota. This is strictly a money move ONLY.

Telfair has a team option for 2010.

I guess if Marbury refuses a buyout, NYK could waive Rose and Roberson, but is Telfair and McCants worth taking on Cardinal's salary next season? I wouldn't, but maybe D'Antoni would see something beneficial in them.

I'd do it for the Wolves to clear up PT for Carney and sign some NBDL athletes. If we're gonna suck anyways, I wanna see NBDL guys running around and being raw and athletic

Agreed. Would only do it with waiving Steph immediately and as a way to accellerate our cap space in 2009. I think we would have to send at least the Boston pick to NY for them to do it. However, they don't want to just cut him (why I don't know) so maybe McCants and Telfair would be enough.

Still don't think it's likely though.

What if Marbury decided to atone for his ways by rededicating himself to the Minnesota Timberwolves? What if Marbury/Jefferson became everything Marbury/KG wasn't?

I smell title-town making a move to the twin cities

What happens if KG does a heel turn on Boston, choke slams Paul Pierce and demands a trade back Minny?
Then we'd have Marbury, Garnett and Jefferson. We'd probably never lose a game again.

I'd be all for it.

Although there's not many enticing free agents out there, we'd definitely have enough to pry Marvin Williams away. Then we could use some more of the cap space and package it with some picks and possibly other players to trade for another young stud.

Add our '09 first to the mix and we're really starting to take shape.

Marbury has too big of an ego to atone for his ways. It's a different sport, but look at Terrell Owens: He always goes to a new team saying he has learned his lesson and he'll behave. He then screws over the team by demanding the ball. I think the same would happen with Marbury. In fact, I don't think Marbury has it in him to say he has atoned for his ways. He is and always will be the super-egoed Stephon Marbury we have known.

We'd probably finally hit that 35 win plateau that McHale was refering to. ;-)

I do love me some Marvin, though.

Better yet, I think a more reasonable expiring would be to trade for Wally! He has 13.7 in expiring salary.

True, but I would rather tade McCants and Telfair than Miller, which is who Cleveland would want.

HELLLLLL NO! Adding Marbury is like taking 12 random used drug needles and injecting them in your body. He's going to bring something and it aint going to be good. He will manipulate our poor little pups minds.

I'm so sick of people bad-mouthing people that insert randomly used drug needles into their bodies.

Get off your high horse, you're not better than me.
