Mike Bibby

Post#1 » by bibbynjoe » Tue Dec 30, 2008 8:44 pm

Mike Bibby has been excellent this year, and I want to know what the chances are that we bring him back next year. And have any of you guys changed your minds about getting rid of Bibby, due to his excellent play thus far?

I would hope that people have changed their minds about Bibby. He got a ton of crap last year that he didn't deserve. Dude was playing on one leg and could barely run the floor by the time the season ended. He clearly wasn't himself.

He's an incredibly smart and crafty player that knows the ins and outs of the game. He gives our offense an extra dimension with his ability to shoot the jumper, and he's one of the best clutch players in the league. The boost he has given this team has been truly unbelievable and a pleasure to watch.

That being said, I wouldn't want to see us overpay for him as teams often do for PG's. He will be into his 30's next year and it's hard to foresee his body holding up for the entirety of a 4-5 year deal.

The Hawks almost have to re-sign Bibby....Going into the season with Law,a rookie pg,or a guy like AJ/Lue as the starting point isn't realistic. I think Joe would also be more willing to sign an extension if he knew Bibby was coming back next year.

I don't think we have to worry about anyone offering him a 4-5 year deal. Most good teams already have point guards and most young/bad teams don't want to give long term deals to players Bibby's age. I think 3 years 24 million is a reasonable deal for both sides although his primary value will probably be as an expiring during that 3rd year.

You guys know I love Bibby's game. He's had a huge impact on our success. Now, he's almost irreplaceble, due to his shooting ability, and how well he complements JJ. He understands his role and has been as crunch as anyone can get. Now, I do believe the Hawks will have trouble keeping him. Just look at teams like Philly, Heat, T-Wolves, Pistons, and some others that really need a true PG. Anyway, I hope we find a way to keep him cause he's been great.

It would be nice if we could see more of Acie cuz when he does play he shows flashes but I would love to see him play extended time so see if he has the ability to have sustained success and i think he does. He has a knack for gettting to the hoop and seems to find the open player. I hope we keep Bibby but I wouldnt mind seeing more Acie if and when Bibby struggles or maybe even see if Acie could play a little 2 guard next to Bibby. Well see though
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

I would also think that Bibby may want to come back, since it really looks like he is having fun. I really hope so.

we'll have to start any contract with bibby in the 10+ million range. this is gonna be a vince carter-esque deal. i see it being close to 3yrs. 35 million. with a player option after 2 yrs.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
