Why is Evan Turner under the radar?

Post#1 » by PeeDee » Mon Dec 29, 2008 5:23 pm

Dude is ballin' in Ohio State:
Great size for a NBA SG (6-7, could put on some weight though)

16.2PPG
7.2RPG
2.9APG
50.5FG%
54.5FG3%

If he continues like this the rest of the year you'd think he'd have to be in the lottery discussion...

Turner isn't under the radar anymore. NBA scouts are all over him, and for good reason. He is a long scorer with a great feel for the game. Can play multiple positions. The reason there was not as much hype around him when the season started was because of BJ Mullens. Because of the fact that he is playing below expectations, Turner stepped up and has produced and become the team's clear cut leader. There was a question mark at the start of the season as to who would step up, Mullens, Turner, or even Diebler.

Lotto pick whenever he comes out.

Not under the radar anymore. The only question remaining is will he declare.

I hope he does, this draft needs everyone.

I read about him on Draftexpress just yesterday and I was intrigued. He sounds like precisely the type of prospect that the Toronto Raptors could use.

Question for those that have seen him: if he were to declare this year, what range might he be selected in? Late lottery?

He needs to take care of the ball better and increase his range to be a starting SG in the NBA.

He's shooting over 50% from 3. He does get a lot of TO's though.

He's a good looking young player, who does alot of things well. He's got a great sense for the game, good handles, a good NBA body and he plays pretty good defense. But he needs to work on his game a bit; he needs to develop a better jumper and needs to cut down on his turnovers. Although alot of those turnovers occur when he's forced to become the primary ball handler which is a position he shouldn't be in anyway.

He seems like a Brandon Roy clone, could be a lottery pick if he keeps it up.

I think he is much, much more like Josh Childress than he is Brandon Roy.

And I 100% agree with MYoung23 - he needs to add a true 3pt shot to his game to be able to take it to the next level.

On 13 attempts over 13 games!!

Kenyon Martin is shooting 59% from downtown for the Nuggets this season. Does that make him a good 3pt shooter?

Evans has great length and is a wonderful rebounder, but the thing I have notivced the most is that he is terrible at finishing in traffic or with contact. Pity he's not athletic enough to go up and over the defenders and just throw down.

His mid range game and shot of the short dribble is really nice though.

What I read about him on DX intrigued me. Haven't made a point to watch him though. How would you guys rate his passing?

He is a pretty good passer. However, he is careless with the ball.
