FieLDS/K-1 Dynamite! 12/31

Post#1 » by CPT » Wed Dec 3, 2008 11:57 pm

This is shaping up to be a sick card.

MMA:
Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Kiyoshi Tamura (something for the Japanese fans....and I'll always watch Saku)
Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen vs. JZ Calvan (sick fight....too bad it's non-title)

rumoured:
Shinya Aoki vs. Eddie Alvarez (heavily rumoured, just hasn't been made official....another sick LW fight)
Alistair Overeem vs. TBA (I think the CroCop rematch has been scrapped)

K-1 Kickboxing Fights:
Gegard Mousasi vs. Musashi (strange matchup with Mousasi fighting under K-1 rules....I've heard the name "Musashi" [as both are pronounced in Japan] is on the line)
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kozo Takeda (another strange kickboxing fight, considering Crusher's strength is wrestling)

The Final 4 of the K-1 Under 18 tournament (I can't be bothered to look at and type out the names right now)

Also rumoured to participate in either K-1 or MMA matches:
Tim Sylvia
Kimbo Slice
Seth Petruzelli
Semmy Schilt
Hong Man Choi
Sergei Kharitonov
Mighty Mo
Yoshihiro Akiyama (please!!)

wtf...kickboxing...why?

I don't like much of this at all. Just the two LW MMA matches (which are awesome, no doubt)

That's a massive collection of boring, freakshow HWs. Literally - that's just a lot of congenital defects.

Kharitonov and Sylvia are legit. Sergei's boxing in his last fight looked awesome. A fight between those two would be amazing. I'm guessing Kharitonov and Overeem have already fought...pretty sure.

Musashi!? He's a HW, fought Bob Sapp. Do you mean Masato? I know Moussasi wanted to move up to LHW or something, but that's a little weird.

Nope. It's definitely Musashi. He's a HW, but he's kind of washed up. That being said, it still doesn't make sense for Mousasi to go up a few weight classes for a kickboxing fight against a kickboxer.

Not sure what Kawajiri is thinking either.

The two LW matchups are enough to get me excited about the show, and I kinda like kickboxing (it's still K-1, it's not a Hero*s or Dream event, so it's to be expected), but it would be nice to get a few more big MMA fights on the show.

I don't know which HWs will end up on the show. It's getting to be short notice for fighters, but really, 4 weeks is plenty of time for Japan. Sylvia wants to do this show or Sengoku because he won't be on Affliction 2. He's also chasing down a fight with Ken Shamrock for some reason.

I'm hoping some of the EliteXC castoffs end up on this show or Sengoku. Lawler vs. Akiyama or something of that nature would be tits.

It seems like Alvarez vs. Aoki has been made official, and they have also added Mark Hunt vs. Jerome LeBanner, which I believe is under MMA rules, but it could be a kickboxing fight.

Akiyama is now signed with WVR so he will no longer be fighting on this card. Look for him to fight Yoshida in WVR, and for that fight to be one of the biggest ever in Asia.

And Mousasi has talked about his interest in fighting in professional boxing and kickboxing matches, it will be interesting.

Mirko is also supposedly fighting HMC, though I doubt this happens. HMC hasn't been anywhere near a good competitor since he got his tumor removed that stopped the extreme secretion of testosterone. Now he is just slow. Cro Cop would destroy him in a kickboxing or mma match.

I'm hoping Overeem fights Sylvia, Sergei, or Schilt.

Hmmm....I'd just read that Akiyama had been released from his FED contract. Where did you hear about him fighting Yoshida for WVR? I know he wanted that fight, and it would be huge, I just thought he was a free agent.

I'd heard about CC vs. Choi as well, but I've completely lost confidence in CroCop. I mean Ray Sefo just beat HMC in a kickboxing match, so CC should be able to handle him in MMA, but CroCop hasn't looked good in almost 2 years. A big kickboxer could be the kind of guy who gives him problems.

Overeem vs. Sylvia would actually be pretty cool. Good test of where both guys stand in the worldwide HW picture.

Kharitonov is out, which sucks. His hands were beautiful in the last fight. But Overeem is now fighting Badr Hari instead. That's nice. Overeem quits on his stool after the first, book it.

Surprised Alvarez lost. I've never been that big of a fan of Aoki and like him even less after he butt scooted around the ring for 3 minutes.

I had some doubts about Alvarez and I truly believe he'd lose to KJ Noons.

And in terms of the K-1 bouts there were some upsets. All the MMA guys won, Hari lost to Overeem, Kawajiri beat Takeda(ill cut him some slack, hes been a punching bag and is 36 years old) and Mousasi beat Mousashi.

It just reaffirms what i've thought of K-1, its an absolute joke.

Aoki is so damn amazing. Fawk, he seemed so out-matched in the standing...and then gets ahold of a leg and finishes.

but I wonder how many more ways there are to get a guy to the ground? pulling guard, catching body kicks and toquing the leg...these are all things that the opponent can adjust for.

I assume that will be Kawajiri, judging by the shuts of Crusher in the crowd and the fact that Kawajiri was harsh to him after the Ishida fight. I hope Shinya breaks his leg off.

I had some

3 minutes??? I just timed it, and it was 19 seconds - including him jumping up to throw a kick.

what are you talking about?

the rest of the event has been (Please Use More Appropriate Word). even Mousassi, whom you'd think would be a technical fighter, looked pretty poor. not moving in-and-out in a coordinated manner, barely moving his feet on the attempts to finish...not exactly Sugar Ray Leonard.

HMC...ugh, I felt really bad for him. He looked scared coming into the ring and is clearly not a fighter in heart but just in physique. nonetheless, his boxing was terrible. tripping all over himself every time he needed to move sideways, (Please Use More Appropriate Word) punching.

Hunt...I don't even know what happened. I would like to have seen how hurt he was. He went limp for the slightest bit of a second...or maybe he didn't maybe that was just his body being jarred by the ground. I don't know how to look at that fight.

Hari and Moushashi both KOd in 1R by MMAers.

Sakaguchi vs Ologun was pretty cool. I'm watching the Sakurai fight now...this is cool.

I'll skip the HW boxingentertainment.

It doesn't say much for GZ's credibility that he came in with two steroid abusers in Manhoef and Antonio Silva during Manhoef's entrance.

I'll watch the Daisuke and Sato matches some time later.

Enjoyed the show (what I've seen so far anyway). Bummed about the JZ vs. Hansen fight being off....typical Japan MMA. The thing I downloaded only had 10 fights. And just my luck, it was in Korean, which is the broadcast I could have watched anyway. **** had HMC vs. Cro Cop as the main event, lol.

Don't know if I should be impressed by Aoki or disappointed in Alvarez. Dude looked greener than Brock Lesnar. Nice win for Aoki though. He's scored some impressive wins for being so one dimensional, but I think guys like Kenny Florian and BJ Penn would ruin his life. Probably a handful of other UFC guys as well, though he might be able to score a sub on a lot of those wrestlers.

I loved....LOVED the MMA fighters in kickboxing matches. I wasn't looking forward to them that much, more of a curiosity thing, but when I saw them kicking ass, it was pretty exciting. Like holy **** @ Crusher, lol. That flying knee was awesome....best thing I've seen in a while. Mousasi looked great too. And Overeem completely dismantling that douchebag Hari was a joy to watch. I don't know if this made me feel good about being an MMA fan, or feel dumb for paying any attention to K-1, lol.

LOL @ that anime guy getting pounded by Sapp to end the fight. I don't think that's what he signed up for. And I honestly thought he was going to wear that stupid mask right up until he took it off to reveal the other stupid mask.

Where can I find the other fights?

where's the dive? Two clean shots to the face.

Kinda funny though seeing overeem about to pounce on his opponent as if its MMA.
