Anyone want Maggette??
Title says it all. As far as we're concerned he can be had for a bag of chips and a hot dog. So anyone want him and what could you offer? (Seriously, we'd almost accept anything at all)

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
i dont understand teams that sign a player and then immediately decide its a bad idea. gs played the clippers 4 times a year. they've seen maggette play a lot. how could they not know what they were getting? everyone who follows basketball knows exactly what kind of player maggette is. he'd be a decent 3rd option on a team with veterans and established go-to scorers.

If he can play SG I'd trade Felton for him.

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
Done deal. We'll take whatever.
fatlever. Every GS fan threw up for a week after the signing and now it seems the stupid FO feels the same. Its not that he's a bad player and in fact could be a real weapon in the right setup but he is useless in ours so he can be had for whatever because of his contract as far as we are concerned. (Not saying out system is good though as well, lol).

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
What are his main problems?
If he could play SG, I might look to move some of our bad contracts for his (but our's should expire quicker). Maybe something like Mohammed and Carroll, or Mohammed/May/Morrison, whatever.

from everything i've ever seen a read, his main problems are:
not very smart, not very coachable
not a willing passer, black hole mentality, looks to score everytime he touches the ball
not a good defender (which is odd since he is such big and strong for his position)
he does three things very well, rebound, drive to the basket and get to the ft line.
he'd be decent on a lot of teams, but i think his contract will prevent teams from looking to trade for him.
i'd trade carroll and nazr for him.

Not so sure I'd do that deal. Even though we lose some non-productive players you are tying up major $ into 2013 with Okafor, Diaw, Wallace AND Maggette. You do this deal ONLY if you believe Corey is the missing link to the core of a championship team. If he was a quality defender and team player I'd say yes, but then we wouldn't be able to get him for marginal players in a deal, would we?
I prefer trading for a better overall player with a shorter contract (like Salmons) or a young guy with major upside.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
I would do a trade for him only because we have alot of awful players to give up. Take Nazi,Carrol and Felton and give us the selfish 20 point scorer. Hell we need one.
We also don't need him to play sg cause Wallace can guard that position also LB set up an offense around a selfish player and would know how to make it work.
For The Record
I want Hughes. He is who I think we should go after and if not him because 28 is to old then MCcants.
I would just take Cory if it's that or stand pat.

There's so many reasons why we wouldn't trade for him it's not even worth listing.

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
Well I know his game so Ill list them
1.Doesn't pass
2.Injury prone
3.Doesn't play D
4.not sure if he scorers for himself or to see his own stats
5.happy not winning
6.He doesn't work hard on the court yet his body makes him look like a guard version of Dwight Howard so he must work out so much he is probably a narrsisist or he doesn't know how to use his size to the fullest because it's obvious he doesn't work so hard to become the best player he can be.
7.isn't a hard worker
8.has the basketball iq of -2
9.he's soft mentally
10.has never made a teammate better
11.not coachabe
Why we should get him
1.Can be had for nothing
2.He's not coachable but has never had a coach like LB
3.Still young
4.Automatically we have a goto guy.
5.He is strong so if he can be taught to use it he can be so deadly
6.Gets to the line
7.were the worst offensive team in the league
8.can always make him a 6th man if something better comes along
9.all the rumors out there for us suck
10.LB made a successful offensive around one man just driving to the cup and or shooting because he had rebounders and hustle guys and that is all we have. He would actually make Mek and Wallace better just by being his selfish self
11.He brings some needed flash and fun that JRich left behind
12.Wallace can guard the 2's so he can play 2 or 3
13.We would have good size instead of 2 guys under 6 feet in the backcourt alot
14.LB demands rebounding from his sg's like when Rip averaged 5 and passing and while Cory might not be able to be a great playmaker ever he could end up being a 7 rebound guy with LB making him.
15.He's never won so we don't really know how his mentality could change if LB does turn this thing around.
16.His contract is long but we have given the same amount to Nazi and Carrol combined. We kind of have to overpay players until were good and they actually want to stay.
17.He's young enough were the right coach can get threw to him. The only coach who is quailified to change him is probably LB and maybe Sloan although Sloan might just give up on him to fast.
18.On a team with no scorers he could average 25 and have some trade value next year.
So he is obviously a gamble but if he is cheap enough what do we have to lose?

Contract. If the FO thought for just one second that Crash should be moved because of his contract then Maggette is an obvious NO as his is actually worse.

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
Several points on why we SHOULD NOT take Maggette:
> His contract is NOT the equivalent of Mohammad and Carroll. Nazi's is done 2 years earlier than CM. Carroll's, while just as long, decreases over time.
> Give up the idea that "the right coach can get through to him". By 28 you are who you are. Don't take a nurse complex to players in the NBA ("...but I can change him..heal him!!"). Habits are formed within the first few years. Character is formed long before that. Corey does not fit our character.
> 1.Doesn't pass, 2.Injury prone, 3.Doesn't play D, 4.not sure if he scorers for himself or to see his own stats, 5.happy not winning
After those 5 is there any reason to go further??

Agreed.
If I were a GM -especially one named Ray Stanz, I wouldnt touch him with a 10-meter cattle prod.

Im just giving both sides here. I don't believe were shopping Wallace cause of his contract. His contract is actually fine. It's because nobody else has value.

Re: Anyone want Maggette??
You guys are underrating him pretty badly. Even this year, which is by far his worst, he's still scoring more efficiently than everyone on the team but Okafor and Wallace. Last year he was number 18 in TS%, ahead of Deron Williams and Pau Gasol, and that was on a terrible team where he shouldered much more of the burden than guys ahead of him.
He's a star on offense and flat out elite at getting to the line in particular, even if he doesn't pass. His turnovers are reasonably low considering how much he dribbles, and he's a quality rebounder for an SF. I'm not sure what evidence there is that he's a poor defender, either... he consistently helped the Clippers on defense, and while that's sort of a "tallest midget" situation, it suggests he's at least not a sieve.
All that said, Maggette's contract is very long and very big. I don't think he's badly overpaid, but trading for him means taking on that deal for another 4 years, and I think this team is closer to blowing up than finding a missing piece.
