Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
I'm a huge T.A. advocate. I hear murmurings around the board, putting the blame of the bench on Tony. Just wondering what climate is in here for ol' Salmon and Mashed potatoes.

I've been a TA advocate, too. I voted Nay. He just hasn't been very good this year. Maybe he'd be better with the starters, but I doubt that will happen.

I also voted Nay, but think TA can be good. His play has not been as we need, as we want and what we expect of him.
Like the idea of him with te startes....wont happen, but the more time he spends on court with Rajon the better. If he keeps cutting to the bucket, Rajon will find him...the he just needs to finish or make his free throws. He almost needs to become the first moving scoring option when he is on court.

All time favourite Celtics: Bill, Dave C, LARRY, Kevin, X, Reggie, Alla, Toine and Paul.

Re: Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
TA hasn't been the reason for any of our five losses and has been a big part in most of our 28 wins.
Is he inconsistent? Yes, I can't argue that. But, Tony Allen can slash against any 1st team defense which is a great change up from our jump shooting starter. Defensively he has been very capable, averaging a steal and a half in just 20 minutes a game. 48% from the field isn't anything to complain about either. If he ever develops an outside game, he will be a very dangerous player (and fantasy sleeper if he's still around post Ray Allen).
I couldn't think of a realistic back up 2 that I'd want more then Tony for this Celtics team.

TA DOES NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE THE FIST SCORING OPTION EVER!!!
When Ray's in with the second unit the ball should always go to him first, when it's the true second unit is should be Powe. TA should play off of them, he has not shown the consistant ability to create his own shot or even make an open jumper. Look at how poorly he played in the Lakers game. Ray was out there for a good 4 min. and never got the ball, just TA turnover and over and over again

TA has the potential and sometimes is great, but he lacks consistency. Even Powe with his ups and downs is more consistent than TA.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?
Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.
Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

Re: Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
The lack of a point guard and veteran leadership on the 2nd units are where the major problems lie. TA's been fine and will be better as the season progresses, especially after DA stabilizes the 2nd unit.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

TA's play is underrated because he has excelled on defense. His shot has been off from it's normal form so its giving people some pause. But you can't knock his D.

Re: Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
He's an undersized slasher w/o a shot on an extremely undersized 2nd unit. I'd play him some with the 1st unit and rotate some starters in w/ the 2nd. I said no but I think he's the best of the reserves. He's a good defender at his position. We can't say that about anyone else on the bench.

Re: Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
I'm not comfortable with the inconsistency of Tony. I expect it is very difficult to get continuity going on the bench not knowing which Tony is going to show up.
He has tremendous capability as a rotation player, but as a 5'th year player it is quite disappointing that he is stil working so many things out.

Re: Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
I was willing to give TA a chance after never being a big fan, however, too much of ADHD Tony this year. He cannot handle the ball, makes terrible passes and seems his shooting, which wasn't that good to begin with, has regressed. I think his defense might be a little overrated as well.

Re: Yea or Nay? Tony Allen
Tony's a good player IMO. Not very high on basketball IQ, but he can get to the hoop, and he can defend. It's when he tries to do too much is when he gets in trouble. I don't like him handling the ball too much, and I hate it when he tries to create, because he throws the ball out of bounds a bit too much for my liking.
As for the inconsistency part - IMO, Tony's the type of player who needs minutes in order to be consistent. His style of play clashes with getting limited minutes. When he's getting starter minutes, he lets the game come to him, slashing to the hole when the opportunity presents itself. He looked great as a starter in 2006. But when he's coming off the bench, he tries to force things, since he knows his opportunities will be limited. It's like you can almost see what TA is thinking - "I'm expected to produce, so I'm going to try and score right now.", even when there's no lane open for him to slash through. And when TA does mess up, he beats himself up over it, to the point where Doc has to put him back on the bench. It's like a vicious circle. Tony Allen needs to think less when he's out there and just play.
