Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
I know it's just Jacksonville and Drexel, but Greg Monroe looks like a beast so far.
20 and 8 against Drexel.
I believe he had 14 and 6 against Jacksonville. Not to mention Chris Wright, who looks like a pure point, had 11 pts and 10 assists today and of course, the emerging star in DaJuan Summers. They may not make the sweet 16, but they are in good hands.

In case anyone cares, G'town is playing Tennesee right now on ESPN.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Re: Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
The talent disparity between Georgetown and Maryland is clearly evident. Georgetown is treating Maryland like a mid-major.
So I think Maryland should hold off on wanting Georgetown in the BB & T tournament if this is any indication of what their head to head meetings would be like.

Agree, Raf...it got ugly quickly and stayed that way.

Yeah, I expect JT III to continue to recruit 4 and 5 star guys, and he probably has a strangle hold on the DC/MD/VA pipeline as well.

From what I've heard, JT seems to make quite an impression when he visits with recruits.Rafael122 wrote:Yeah, I expect JT III to continue to recruit 4 and 5 star guys, and he probably has a strangle hold on the DC/MD/VA pipeline as well.
Gary Williams could learn a thing or two from JT.

Yes, like actually visit their homes from time to time. From what I've read, Gary only shows up to close the deal.

Yep. And look at the results. A mediocre program at best.

Big game tonight against UCONN. Should be a test to see where the Hoyas are at.

Re: Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
Chad Ford gives props to Greg Monroe in his draft-watch column. With this review, you wonder if Monroe will be a one-and-done right into the next draft.
Greg Monroe, F/C, Georgetown
The freshman class has been disappointing. To date, not one freshman has made a convincing case that he's ready for the NBA. However, Monroe has turned the most heads early on. His numbers aren't terrific, but his combination of size and skill has many scouts drooling. The Georgetown system won't allow Monroe to dominate statistically (see Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert), but it has highlighted that he's a harder worker than scouts gave him credit for in high school.
If Monroe continues to improve as the season goes on, he has the talent to go as high as No. 2 or No. 3 in the draft. We have him planted firmly in the top 10.

Re: Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
It's a weak draft, which is probably why he's a lottery pick but I really doubt Monroe leaves after 1 year. He'll stay a 2nd year and then determine his draft stock.

Re: Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
I'd also be very surprised if he went pro this draft - because he's not ready yet physically or toughnessly < copywrite>, but he'd have a chance at top 5 maybe next season. The positive numbers that stick out - pace adjusted 2.5 and 3.1 steals and blocks per 40 - very nice. But his rebounding for a big is awful - that's where he and Summers need coaching up. If Monroe gets significantly stronger, his negatives probably go away.
Btw, Nbadraft.net seems very confused about the G-towners - They have Summers going 11th this draft and Monroe 24th the next draft. I can't see Summers going that high unless he dramatically improves, and I'd expect Monroe to be a lotto pick.

Re: Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
Halftime in CT, and I'd have to say, Greg Monroe looks reeeeeeeeeeeal good out there. He scored inside, he scored outside, he passed the ball, he ran the pick and roll, and he looked like he knew exactly what he was doing out there. Maybe he wasn't a huge factor as a shotblocker and rebounder, but he seemed to be doing a reasonably good job of boxing out.
As for Thabeet... well, he started to make his presence felt with a couple rejections after Monroe went to the bench, but for most of the half he was pretty much a non factor. Up til that point he had sort of looked like an African PJ Ramos out there. Hopefully he'll develop as the year goes on, even with all the project big men on the Wiz we could really use a 7 foot 3 game changing shot blocker like this guy SHOULD be.

Re: Greg Monroe and the Georgetown Hoyas
I dont really blame Thabeet. Uconn made almost no effort to get him the ball. Monroe looked so great because Gtown played to his strengths, which are Thabeets weakness, such as playing on the perimieter. But Uconn has not tried to exploit Monroe down low hardly at all.

I'm not impressed with Thabeet at all. He doesn't look that strong, and he seems to get rattled easily. Definitely a project, definitely a guy I wouldn't want the Wizards drafting.

Boy, the Hoyas simply got out muscled against the Pitt Panthers.

Blair destroyed the Hoyas. He dominated monroe. He kinda reminds me of milsap from Utah. Undersized PF that is a rebounding machine.
