2010 Free Agent List, and some of my ideas

Post#1 » by Mattya » Wed Dec 31, 2008 11:55 pm

I'm not sure if this has been posted, I think its pretty accurate as far as free agents go though

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9031

As brought up in another thread, many people on here think Marvin Williams would be a good signing this coming offseason, and I agree.

Guys I would like the Wolves to go after in 2010:
Tyson Chandler(Player Option)
Memo Okur
Raja Bell

What I would like to see the Wolves do is this Off season, is target Thabeet, Harden, Jennings, Holiday, Rubio(If Declares). I think if the Wolves could somehow get Thabeet and Jennings this summer, with Marvin in Free Agency, then the Wolves would look a lot better next season.

I will do this with the idea that Rubio will not be declaring, but if he does he would be my first pick. If someone would like, i would definately appreciate, a comparison between the Top PGs in this years Draft between Rubio, Jennings, Holiday, or Curry. I don't watch a lot of college or euroleague basketball, so it would be some nice insight.

but this would be a pretty nice core for the next few years

Jennings/Telfair
Miller/Foye/Brewer
Williams/Gomes/Carney
Jefferson/Love/Smith
Thabeet

Then the next year we could still maybe sign a couple of these guys in 2010, not sure of the math but

Jennings/Foye
Bell/Brewer
Williams/Carney201
Jefferson/Love
Chandler/Thabeet

I think that gives the Wolves a solid balance of Offense/Defense/Halfcourt/Fastpaced/Rebounding, and Hustle players

If you don't agree with these ideas im open to other peoples suggestions, but at least we will finally clear up the 2010 free agents

depends a lot on the draft, but my first priority would be to get a great perimeter player. I'd like a big 3rd big man in the rotation, but I wouldn't commit too much resources to it. Maybe trade one of the firsts to Washington for Haywood if possible. Just a 25 mpg guy or so to help with bad matchups.

I was thinking about Bell too the other day as far as trading for, but he has a big role w/ Charlotte, a coach that knows him, Diaw is his good friend, and Charlotte is competing well when he's on the court. MN would be a big shakeup.

in 2010 though he'll be kinda old, I wouldn't want him starting then I don't think. Could be a good backup though. If Marvin Williams really breaks out, then it could make for a good combo having him and Brewer, but the competition to sign him might get too hot.

I agree devil. Adding a back up big to fit in the love/al rotation would be great. A Haywood would be perfect.

if we keep the offseason simple, add Harden, trade for Haywood and make a FA push for Williams I would be very-very happy.

Haywood is one of my favorite centers in the league, so I would LOVE that.

I doubt Haywood would enjoy coming off the bench. If he would be cool with it then he would be a perfect fit. I just wouldn't want him trying to beat up Love. At least Love doesn't have any dreads to rip out.

I think anything until Pekovic is brought over is just going to be a rental anyway. In fact, I have a feeling that he's going to be our "free agent" in 2010. Like it or not, Jefferson/Love/Pek is probably our front court of the future.

Speaking of Pekovic, check this freak out:

I know he's not nearly as big, but does his play remind anyone else of Shaq?

I think people are expecting too much from Pekovic too soon. We act like he will be the savior of the franchise or something.

Didn't say that, just said I think the front office feels like Al/Love/Pekovic will be our front court of the future. Then I thought it would be appropriate to post links showing him being a bully in Europe.

I have high hopes for the guy, but I don't think he will be an all-star.

Saying he will be the 3rd wheel of a frontcourt is hardly calling him a savior Klomp.

It does seem like we are going with a somewhat similar mold with our bigs though. Smith, Jefferson, Love, Pekovic.... they are all thick and I don't think anyone could call them soft. Put Smith at the point, Love at the 3, Jefferson at the 4, Pekovic at the 5 and who cares who plays the 2 since every team we face will turn and run as they lumber down the court in stampede mode.

Maybe then we could petition for a name change... The Minnesota Stampeding Lumberjacks
Team uniforms would include a stocking hat and Paul Bunyan would be the mascot.

Except Paul Bunyan was tall. Minnesota is evidently the land of 10,000 short, slow, thick PFs.
