Bob's Morning Papers Thread - Just the facts ma'am
This is something they do on the Tornonto board that I kind of liked. They have a daily sticky thread highlighting the beat & national coverage of the team. This in no way precludes starting new threads to discuss individual articles in greater depth and arguing them passionately. The idea is for this thread to just be a resource to find up to date news coverage. I would think that in this thread we might limit ourselves to just posting the news items (for those seeking repite and not so much arguing agenda/opinion/POV/poo throwing.) Give folks a chance to come up for air from the partisan stuff and just try to take in the news with a cup of joe before wading into the cesspool . . .

#1) Does anyone feel like maintaining/updating this thread on a daily basis which basically amounts to pulling highlight quotes and links to new articles as they become available . . . again, without spinning them to death?
#2) These are mostly the editorial/blog pages, feel free to add other striaght reporting links
#3) Can we agree to let the papers speak for themselves in this thread and do our own editorializing elsewhere?
If so, I will sticky. If not, screw it.

I think it's a good idea Sleepy. I don't think you necessarily have to have someone maintain it, just have people post relative articles under this threads title. If they merit their own thread, they can always be moved. It would be a lot simpler that way. Just another option, I think it's a good idea though.

I think it's a good idea and I'd like Geoff Lepper's a8 minute blog to be added as a regular.

Would you be intersted in maintaining the page daily? The idea being scan the regular links posting updates whenever these guys get off their asses and post something, maybe higlighting a teaser quote, but without adding your own spin? I would love to hand this off to a regular who is interested in just helping to keep the info up to date in a neutral way.

Thanks for the offer Sleepy. I can't commit to it based on my job where I may or may not be available on a daily basis. I'm in construction and in the field often.
I would love to nominate Bob though. He's often first with articles.

# DeMarcus Nelson, the Oakland product who started the first five games for Golden State this season, was cut to make room for Davidson on the 15-man roster. It'll also save the Warriors about $200,000, since Nelson's minimum-wage contract would have become guaranteed on Jan. 10.
# Nellie said before the game that he didn't expect any more roster moves to be made before Saturday, which means and Rob Kurz should be safe. Anthony Morrow, too, though I don't think that was ever in doubt. If Davidson doesn't pan out, Nelson said they'd try out another power forward.
# Final note: Since Nellie said rebounding was one of the main reasons for signing Davidson, I asked what the difference was between Davidson and second-round pick Richard Hendrix -- whom the Warriors cut last month despite having to eat his guaranteed contract.
The answer shouldn't surprise anyone:
Said Nellie: "Hendrix is more of an inside player, and the kind of forwards we're looking for can run and shoot the jumper a little better than Hendrix. ... In the draft, often times you got to end up taking the talented player and hope he develops and works out. In the D-league, you can get more specific."

Warriors sign Jermareo Davidson to fill inside void
By Curtis Pashelka

Updated: 01/05/2009 09:14:08 PM PST
SALT LAKE CITY — Already with a plethora of guards and needing a larger inside presence, the Warriors signed forward Jermareo Davidson to a 10-day contact from the Developmental League on Wednesday and waived DeMarcus Nelson, their opening night starter at point guard.
Davidson heard from the Warriors on Saturday and arrived here Sunday night. He signed Monday, the first day NBA teams could sign players to 10-day contracts.
"We're going to take a look at him and see if we like him. And if we don't, we'll move on and try somebody else," said Warriors coach Don Nelson, who saw Davidson play in the summer league. "We have plenty of guards, and we really need more of an up-front player."
DeMarcus Nelson, an undrafted free agent signed by Golden State in September, played in 13 games for the Warriors and started their first five games before being sent to the Bakersfield Jam in mid-November.
Nelson was recalled from Bakersfield in mid-December and played five more games but had not seen action in the past three games. Overall, he averaged 13.1 minutes, 4.1 points and 1.0 assist.
"He was my favorite player. I loved him, I wish him well, and I'm trying to help him get another job or another chance to show what he can do," Don Nelson said. "But with us right now, we need a different position."

Hu: Jackson leaves game as Warriors lose to Jazz
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 153U7T.DTL
Despite the dismal start and consecutives losses to the two worst teams in the NBA this week, Warriors President Robert Rowell reiterated Monday that coach Don Nelson's job in not in jeopardy.
"No, I've not given it an ounce of thought," Rowell said before the game at Utah. "Nellie's a great coach. I think he's done his job as a coach. I think Nellie has done everything he's done his last 30 years in the business. ...
"Unfortunately, we've had Corey (Maggette) out 15 games, we've had Monta (Ellis) out, we're banged up. It's still not an excuse - it's the NBA - but we knew when Monta went down that this would be a tough start to the year."
Rowell believes fortunes will improve with the return of Ellis.
Rowell dismissed any notion that Ellis - who has filed a grievance over the team's 30-game suspension for his banned moped accident - would not play for Golden State again this season. Ellis is traveling with the team as he rehabs his surgically repaired ankle.
"We're trying to get through the last month and a half here, and get him back on the court and see what we've got," Rowell said.

InsideBayarea.com: Warriors' road trip leaves them lame
Jackson did not return after he suffered a strained right hamstring with 5.1 seconds left in the first half. The Warriors stayed close for the rest of the second half before falling to the Utah Jazz 119-114 to conclude a winless three-game road trip.
"Somebody comes, somebody leaves, right," said guard Jamal Crawford, who led Golden State with 28 points and six assists. "That's stuff you can't control, unfortunately. We just have to go out there and continue to fight with what we have. And everybody has to raise their level of play."
"I was running up trying to catch Deron Williams, and I felt something pop," said Jackson, one of the Warriors captains and emotional leaders. "First time I've had a hamstring problem, so I'm going to go back and see exactly what the problem is (today)."
"I know in those situations when you're running back and then you cut at a hard angle, that's what happens with your hamstring," Maggette said of Jackson's injury. "I did the same exact thing, so I understand what he's going through. "... (If you ask me), it's going to be at least three weeks plus (of rehabilitation). I would assume so, but hopefully it'll get better."

Sleepy? You might have already done this somewhat. Why don't you lay some ground rules. I can see some of these do merit comments. Thx.

Re: Morning Papers Thread
I envisioned this as strictly a news coverage thread. There have to be some posters who would find it valuable to have all the relevant news links and teaser quotes in one place.
I think this should be something of a "safe haven" from arguing and spin. I don't want to moderate the heck out of it though. Let's just try to police ourselves. If someone breaks form, I would suggest the best reponse would be the old "silent treatment." Just don't engage them. Let the unecessary comments in this thread wither and die.
The reporters put enough spin on things anyway.
Obviously the news stories will merit comment, so I would ask that iff you want to start a debate on a story, just copy the link to a new thread of your own making. This should be a De-Militarized Zone.
