Ex-Providence star Croshere waived by Bucks
The Bucks have requested waivers on ex-Providence star forward Austin Croshere today. It will be interesting to see if the Celtics, who have been looking for a veteran big to fill the shoes of P.J. Brown, show interest in the 6-foot-10, 240-pound veteran forward.
Croshere appeared in 11 games with the Bucks and averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7 minutes per game. The 33-year-old has played in 68 career playoff games, including the 2000 NBA Finals in Indiana.
Croshere's agent, Dan Fegan, says he is hopeful that he will hear from the Celtics. While Croshere would have to clear waivers to become a free agent, there are teams interested in possibly claiming him and the remaining $797,581 of his contract this season. In the meantime, Croshere will be working out in Indianapolis.
The Celtics currently have a maximum 15 players on their roster.
When asked if the Celtics are interested, Fegan said: "I hope they are. That's one of my first calls today. He makes a lot of sense for them. (Celtics president) Danny Ainge always told me he likes him."
I don't know. Is it possible to have Scalabrine and Croshere on the same team. I don't know about this one.

I haven't seen in play in a while but I just don't think he's differientiated himself at all from Scalabrine in his performance or skillset. I'm guessing no on this one.

Re: Austin Croshere?
I had read somewhere that contracts get locked in for the year within the next week, so Ainge may have been waiting to see who could become available this week. Magloire was another rumored player to be waived, although Livingston might take away that need to open the spot for Mourning. Not sure Magloire has anything left though.
Croshere might be interesting, not sure it totally addresses the need for a Big, but it might open an opportunity of Danny doing a trade of Scal + ? (Davis?) for another need, possibly at the 5 spot. You'd think the defense would respect the shot of Croshere a lot more than a Davis or Scal option.

Not the answer. He doesn't address the need for a big that can defend, rebound and hit the open shot. Croshere has only do one of the 3. We have enough bench players with holes in their game. Next.

Re: Austin Croshere?
Actually Croshere is a good rebounder and scorer. He also can pass the ball he is actually a lot like Posey sans the defense. He isn't a terrible defender but not a particularly good one either. I am some what baffled why he can't crack a rotation the past two years.
In the end he is a good version of Scal. It isn't perfect for what we need but there may not be a better option coming free either. In the end I don't think you will get that much more from Joe Smith they are pretty simliar in a bench role.
