Playoff Picks: Round 2

Post#1 » by ohara » Mon Jan 5, 2009 1:10 am

San Diego at Pittsburg: I think this is the game where the Chargers step up one more time and finish off the Steelers. The Steelers are just too inconsistent on offense and it will show. Chargers advance.

Baltimore at Tennessee: This will be a vicious war. Blood will spill and bodies will be laid waste to in Nashville, TN. In the end, I think the Titans Defense will rattle Flacco like other teams failed to do and will force a couple turnovers.

Arizona at Carolina: This is the one game which is closest to a "lock" as I will get. Arizona has been an up and down team and very inconsistent. They were due for a game over their heads and delivered against Atlanta. Now it is back down to Earth. The Carolina Offense will run alll night and the Defense will get to Warner many times.

Philly at NY: This will be a bloodbath. Bodies will be hurt on both sides. Either Philly survives to travel to Carolina, or a battered NY will host Carolina. Either bodes well for the Panthers, assuming they get by the Cardinals. In the end, I think Carolina will host Philly.

Chargers at Steelers

The Steelers are the best team in the AFC, the Chargers are only 9-8 including their playoff win, and only 3-5 on the road. The Steelers are 6-2 at home. We'll see how Ben is, I guess, but the Farrior/Harrison combo should destroy the Bolts. The Steelers offence has just enough weapons to win this game.

Ravens at Titans

Since going 10-0, the Titans have been stunningly average. The Ravens got their average phase out of the way early. There won't be a lot of points scored in this game. Both teams are heavily reliant on the run. I think it comes down to the Titans going from unstoppable to plain and the Ravens doing the opposite. Ravens win.

Cardinals at Panthers

So I picked my lock of the week against the Cardinals and they made me look idiotic. Despite only having won one more game, the Panthers are a lot better than the Falcons. They're also at home, where they do - not - lose. Lock of the week. Panthers romp.

(Analysis: Williams crushes Arizona's defence, which is a little too confident for now. The Panthers make sure James and Hightower go nowhere, forcing Warner to pass the ball even more than he'd like.)

Eagles at Giants

I wouldn't bet on this game with a ten-foot pole. It'll be fun to watch and will probably produce multiple injuries. Talk about a couple teams that downright hate each other. Forget records - these teams are equal. The Eagles have been great at stopping the run this season, and the secondary is as deadly as it has been since nearly a decade ago. Dawkins is Eli's worst nightmare incarnate. I want to see how the Giants' linebackers deal with Westbrook. Eagles win, but it ain't pretty and it ain't by much.

---

Ravens @ Steelers

Eagles @ Panthers

Hell yeah!

I know you must realize this, but you have the Chargers hosting the AFC Final. To me, that's just bizarre.

No, I have the Chargers going to Tenn for the AFC Championship. Tenn has home field.

Interesting we are the same on the 2 NFC games and oppo on the 2 AFC games. Let's see how it plays out. Should be exciting.

Ravens defeat Titans! Way to call it Rooster!

Gotta say that the Titans simply blew this game in a big way. 3 TO's deep in the opposition's territory, one being a 4th qtr fumble at the Raven 5 yard line. Tenn left a lot of points on the field and they will think about that all off season. And they were without Chris Johnson the entire 2nd half after a great 1st half. It all went wrong for Tenn and they are done.

The Ravens are a scary team. Did you see that hit by Ray Lewis in the 1st qtr on that Titan player? That hit sounded painful, man o man. How that guy got up is beyond me.

I was picking a PIT/BAL AFC Final from the start. Those are two scary teams. Remember, they each to play each other twice, plus each of NYG/PHI/DAL/WAS. The NFC East being matched up with the AFC North this year was just cruel.

Ray Lewis is still the man.

Interesting how the Fox crew showed how a #1 seed hasn't won it all since I think 2003? The #1 seeds sure don't convince me this year. I thought the Panthers and Steelers were the best teams in their respective conferences this year, and each coughed up a winnable game. Not only that, but the Cardinals and Chargers should be easier opponents than the Ravens and Eagles.

Sorry I missed that bit about the Chargers. Now I really hope they lose. Seeing an 11-5 team miss the playoffs and then an 8-8 team host the AFC Final wuld be embarrassing.

Well, I was 4-0 last week. Today I am 0-2. Wow! Cardinals killed the Panthers. The best player for the Cardinals tonight - Jake. 1 lost fumble and 5 INT's. Then Warner and Fitzgerald just played catch all night because our Defensive Coordinator couldn't figure out how to stop him from being Wide Friggin' Open! Unbelievable. We were 10 pt favorites and got whipped 33 - 13. What a complete embarrassment.

Fatlever, I am sorry you sat in the rain and watched that garbage. You would have enjoyed the Bobcats comeback much more my friend.

Well, we both called the Eagles victory over the Giants. how about that matchup. Eagles going to Arizona for the NFC Championship. Unreal.

Only one left. I called San Diego, and Rooster called Pittsburgh. Lets see who hosts the Ravens in the AFC Championship.

And Rooster makes the call! Pittsburgh beats San Diego 35-24. Now we are set. Time for a new Thread.
