This team needs Giddens and Walker
It's become quite obvious that the bench cannot get it done and needs...
1. more height
2. more scoring
3. more defense
4. more attitude
- Powe is about all we can count on off the bench.
- Eddie still isn't a point guard and he's turned into a garbage time shooter. His defense absolutely sucks. Basically he the same as he's always been, a good 9th or 10th man, that's why he's bounced around so much.
- TA is still TA. One great game out of every 10. The rest he just disappears. He's actually playing good team ball, but he is limited offensively and is too small.
- The rest don't exist.
Bringing in Giddens and Walker will greatly enhance items 2, 3, and 4 above. Now that the streak is over, they need to be on the team prepping for the playoffs. I'm ready for a second team of Pruitt, Giddens, Walker, Powe and some new big guy. Also, keep Scal in a suit. Playing him does not enhance his trade value.

Wish I saw this the first time. True then, truer now.

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
I have been saying that for the last couple of weeks. TA at back up SG/SF is a complete disaster.
Giddens and Walker would bring athleticism, energy, some life to this team, because we have looked dead for the last week or two.

I've been a TA supporter from the beginning. But boy has he been disappointing this season!
I'm about ready to jump off his bandwagon. He needs to be replaced, pronto.

The only Walker this team needs is Antoine! I think Giddens and Walker could change it up a little but I only think it would be a good short term change. If TA doesnt shape up I say give it a chance.

TA and House are both playing terrible. Im afraid when i see either one of them dribbling up the court. I think we could get away with inserting one of the rooks in to the 2nd unit. I really like what Giddens could provide. If TA can get minutes at the 3 I think Giddens definately could.

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
This bench needs a leader and not a bunch of rookies...
House, Powe and Allen aren't what you'd like to call "intelligent" players. They do their thing and benefit from focal players (and they are quite good at that). Posey was a focal player, even though he isn't complete by all means. But he gave the bench leadership and team play. Something those three guys just don't have in them.

I agree we need vets, but at the same time the bench needs some changes. While i'm not for both of the Rookies playing I think one of them should get minutes. Tony plays with the consistency of a rookie so what's the difference? His defense is all instinct and athleticism (Athleticism that he no longer has), and his offense comes from turnover prone one on one plays. There's nothing there that one of our rookies couldn't bring.
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
We definitely need someone or something to spark us. The 2nd unit is playing scared basketball right now. Nobody's confident out there and I don't think we can 'count' on anyone from that unit, including Powe, who has disappeared just as regularly as House or TA.
I think TA/House/Powe are good players, but right now that unit just isn't jelling. Doc needs to think of something to jumpstart them, and infusing Walker/Giddens for a couple games might do the trick. Playing Pruitt might as well, or giving O'Bryant some surprise minutes when the situation calls for it.
I also think Doc's coaching has been poor during this 2W, 4L stretch. O'Bryant should have played in GS (revenge motivation and Perk's absence being the main reasons), and Pruitt should play every night at least in the 2nd half (it's not like our 2nd unit could do any worse). Doc's completely over-coaching right now, and when he's not doing that, he's leaning on the Big 3 too much. And instead of letting Rondo play through the Knick game, he plays a completely ineffective Eddie House 25 minutes instead!

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
I posted the something a few weeks back but this team is not only missing a quality big and a decent back up point but we need a effecient back up SF. Watching Scal last night gave me hopes that i can make the NBA he sucks so much! Watching the knicks fall off of Scal and bunch the lane was horrible but it was even worst watcing Scal brick 2 wide open 3's. If he had made it we would be a different ending.
I cant understand why DA is trying to make it without Giddens and Walker but it is getting real bad when other teams go small cuz we are forced to play Scal at the 4 but Walker would be a better option at the 4 with Kg playing at the 5.

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
I would love to see Walker playing the backup three minutes. He could provide a huge spark this team really needs. TA would also see a reduced role which is also great. Then hopefully we sign a PG soon and slide Eddie over and TA will become a garbage time player. He cannot play on this team. He is just far too inconsistent and turnover prone.

I agree, Bill Walker and Giddens would probably provide more then Tony and House have. I think Walker especially could be really good. He'd fight anyone.

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
tony allen is capable or playing great defense but he offsets that with turnovers, ill advised drives and just dumb plays. It seems like once he scores then he tries to keep scoring and ball movement stops. I love leon powe but he is constantly being asked to score against bigger players as is Glenn davis. If tony allen could be used to bring us a veteran big man then I say let's do it. I think Pruitt can take Tony's minutes and it would also free up space for giddens or walker or both. Ideally Cassell retires ( although I have to say that if Marbury were to join the team a backcourt of marbuyr and cassell would be interesting). There aren't really any quality bigs out there so to me it looks like scoring on our bench has to come from our guards supplemented by Leon. Havng a true PG like Marbury who can create his own shot would open up scoring opps for leon and baby. I can't believe I'm actually advocating for marbury but this team clearly needs help off the bench and again I think it's easier to get guard help than big man help.

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
It just looks like the starters are wasted both physically and mentally. It may be from the intensity of the 19 game win streak or just wiped out from the christmas road trip.
Like in last year's playoffs, they are still having problems with young fast helter skelter teams that shot before we can set up our defense. We need a few players who can match up. This would include some of Pruitt, Giddens, Walker, even if its temporary.

Well Ainge saw Walker tear up the showcase last night and Giddens wasn't too shabby either. Hopefully after the showcase he & Doc will call up one of them.

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
At the very least, they need to see what they have with these guys, especially Giddens since he is already 23. The time to do it is now in the middle of the year, not in April. Obviously, we need to not lose sight of holding on to the no. 1 seed overall, but a shakeup needs to be made. If something does not happen via trade/free agency, they have to promote from within.
Personally, I would go with Walker because he can actually create his own offense. They have put up very similar numbers in the D-league, and Giddens probably has more value as a defender, but they need offense of the bench. Walker can put the ball on the floor and get to the hoop.
The question becomes, who will they de-activate? POB seems to be the only logical choice because it has been made clear by Doc that it will not be Gabe or Scal.

I think they have plenty of choices here. Does it really matter who they would deactivate. Throw a dart and let the dart choose.
As far as being the answer, I seriously doubt a couple of players, who haven't even practice with the team in over a month is going to come in and help the bench, and they are rookies. I agree we need something, but I don't think this is it, but now is the time to try if you are going to do it. Fans suffer from the "backup quarterback" syndrome. However, it is worth a shot.

Agreed...we should deactivate Davis...he just sucks so bad I cannot stand to see him on the floor...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Re: This team needs Giddens and Walker
Great post and I absolutely agree, I haven't read all the replies but I'm all for this. It's time for an infusion of youth and athleticism, I think that one of the two could assert himself into a prominent 6th man role given the opportunity and a move now so that any adjustment period can take place before the stretch run.
