Available bigs

You always hear how scarce quality big men are. Guess that depends on how you define quality. There are certainly plenty of useable big men available right now.

He may or may not be on the market, but Brandon Bass is out of the rotation in Dallas. Certainly the Mavericks would listen to offers.

Same in Portland with Channing Frye , who has also fallen out of the rotation.

These guys are definitely on the block: Chris Wilcox , Nick Collison and Joe Smith in Oklahoma City; Brad Miller and Kenny Thomas in Sacramento and, of course, the always dangerous Eddy Curry in New York

I've said it once, and I'll keep saying it. I want Wilcox on this team. We have Rasho, Daniels, and tons of 2nd round picks to possibly pick him up. I don't know what kind of value Collison holds, but maybe we coudl do Rasho, Daniels, 2 2nds for Wilcox, Collison.

Hibbert/Foster/McRoberts

If we could trade Tinsley for anything that would be great. Release Baston, and make a smart draft choice, and I would say we would be about one full year for gelling purposes from being a contender.

I have to say I really hate that idea. I'm all for giving away 2nd round picks for anybody with NBA talent, but two expiring deals for a guy that another team has put on the "available" list doesn't really sound like a great idea to me.

Not to mention I believe Wilcox is or will be expiring, and I think the Thunder want 1sts and not 2nd's.

I haven't read anything about wanting a 1st rounder for Wilcox, but if they really do I think they'll be sorely disappointed. I would have to think hard about giving Tinsley and a 1st for Wilcox, and I really like Wilcox. I guess maybe my biggest problem with the whole thing is that Wilcox would either be a rental or we would give him a lot more than he was worth in free agency, and I don't see us going far in the playoffs even assuming we somehow make it in. It's always depressing going into the offseason knowing how bad your team was the last season and not having a first round pick or the player you traded it for. (See Al Harrington)

I wouldnt want to give up a first, even to get rid of Tinsley...especially for Wilcox. He is extremely mediocre.

I'm not apposed to getting Wilcox, but i'm not exactly willing to pay what they would probably want in return. In my eyes he is not a long term answer for us at the PF spot. Decent stat filler, just not a game changer/winner.

I hope that Murphy is added to this list, because I don't think he is the future for us at the PF spot so now would be the time to move him. I know that he is playing the next best basketball to Granger but if he is not in the future plans then his trade value is at its highest, maybe a expiring and young potential, I would think that there is a couple teams that could really use him for a run in the playoffs. The thing with Murphy is that he is suspect on defense and we don't have another big to play at C that can pick up for him. He needs to play with a PF/C that is very athletic and we don't have one of those on our roster. Hibbert will be decent but he just isn't going to be that athletic, more of a true C. Murphy needs to play with a Howard, Camby, Stoudamire type of player.

Not really, him and Stouadmire would be probably one of the worst defensive bigman duo ever.

Murphy needs a great weakside defender, Howard and Camby yes are good choices, but if Sean Williams didn't have so many flags he'd be a great choice on our team. As would David Harrison, who was a great weakside shotblocker, and JO if JO could ever play center. ahah.

Not only does Sean Williams have character red-flags out the wazoo, hes not even any good. At all. Blocking shots is all hes useful for, and his reputation leads you to believe hes better at that than he really is.

Assuming the OP wants to re-sign Wilcox next season, this deal is a non-starter from the Pacer side because it almost certainly puts us over the luxury tax.

So our roster next year we won't be able to resign Graham, Baston, Mcroberts, or Jack. That only leaves us with 7 players 8 if you count our 1st round pick 9 if you count Tinsley. Wilcox might be the same as paying Daniels next year, but trading Rasho for Collison also makes it the same as paying Rasho next year.

I would doubt that OKC would do Daniels for Wilcox, but I might take a flyer on that. However, I'm not particularly sold on Wilcox.

Wilcox would definitely help right now. The problem is we are not building a team with aging vets.

I still kind of like Charlie Villenueva. Maybe even Bargnini.

This gets less likely now that there is talk that the NBA salary cap may stay flat next season, which would reduce the available tax space I had been figuring by about $4mm.

I like CV4 and AB, and it would be great if we could get them on our team. I hope we can get CV4 actually.

What I'm saying is the cost outweighs the benefits. I think there are better options out there at a similar price, but as long as Obie is coaching this team, its a moot point anyway. His seeming indifference to coaching defense makes someone like Sean Williams superfluous.
