Foye's Last Ten Games

In a post on the Trade Board, I tried to defend the value of Randy Foye. I didn't want to just talk about his last night's amazing game, so I decided it would be fairer to talk about his last ten. After I calculated the stats and posted, I then thought others here might be interested:

Foye: 21.0 PPG, FG 52%, 3P 50% (22 3's), 41-46 FT, 4.7 RPG, 3.3 APG, 0.7 BPG, 1.5 SPG

Now I've been a strong advocate for a long time that Foye needs to develop into a PG for us to get maximum value out of him because of his size. However, with this kind of production, I'm wondering if I was wrong?

Foye has been awesome lately, no doubt. However, if we are committed to playing Foye at off-guard, and we are committed to a front court of Big Al and Love, then we are going to be undersized for eternity. I no likey.

Foye has been great, I was actually at the game last night, I got a high five from him after the game and I went to play basketball today and I didn't miss, thats the Randy Foye Effect.

In all seriousness, after his rough start he has been a completely different player. He is making big plays in big moments for us, scoring and getting to the line when we need him too, and he isn't making bad decisions. He is really proving to be a really go player for us now at shooting guard

We have needed a consistent 18+ PPG player besides Al for a long time. If Foye is it then that's great. We need three players hovering around that 20 PPG range IMO. Miller is easily the next best candidate for that but we got to find a way to get him going. He is averaging 9 PPG. That's unacceptable.

Foye is an attack guard. He still creates and makes great plays. He just plays much, much, much better if there is another guard to set things up.

How Ironic that the best SG to put next to Foye might be Roy.

The larger point is that Foye seems much better off when he has someone else who can initiate the offense. Presumably, in the future, we're not wanting the primary for that to be Telfair or Ollie, so I think we're back in the position of looking for a big point guard (ala Rubio) or a point forward...

Whats Calathes' story? Is he like the "Jaric/Swiss Army Knife/1-2-3" Or is he a pure PG?

They call him a PG on all the broadcasts. He brings the ball up and sets up the plays. He probably couldnt defend PGs in the NBA, but I'm gusseing Foye would defend the PGs and Calathes would defend 2s or 3s. I like him.

Yeah. I had that same (horrifying) thought even as I was typing that... Pretty much a coin flip between Jaric and LeBron for best fit, doncha think?

I do think Rubio would be perfect, with Foye guarding the 1 and Rubio the 2...

Since I joined RealGm I have defended him at length many times on the trade boards.
I've been telling people either "No" (to their dismal trade offers) or telling them to be
patient with him for so long that I'm feeling a bit relieved. Are you listening Euchus? lol

In terms of offensive structure, I do have some long term concern with how someone who is more of an attack guard like Randy meshes with our low post oriented offense. To me it seems like we really need our wings to be primarily jump shooters (and quality defenders) and then have a traditional half court PG orchestrating everything.

this is where all that talk of drafting Holiday makes sense. he's got size, length and great defensive ability already. but that would still leave us with a gaping hole at the center position....

Draft Jrue Holiday to be our point guard, and perhaps Jerome Jordan as our center, maybe Cole Aldrich as well. Although, if I see Derozan fall to the spot of our MIA pick, then we have to take him.

We need to give up on the idea of filling the C hole this season. It aint gonna happen. We took Peks for a reason, once he comes over, thats our guy. Now we can look for a back up, but the Center position should not affect how the rest of our offseason goes.

Id be happy with Holiday. Id love Rubio, Harden if we fall in the top 3. But if we are in the 4-8 area at the end of the season Holiday would be a great pickup

Just so we can have a taste of what it's like would someone post a Foye VS. Roy thread for the last ten games. I just want need a taste of what it's too look at that comparison w/o any shame.

I've been greatly encouraged by Foye's play of late. I've been down on him basically since the summer before last season, but he's really stepped up recently. His block on Mayo was the single most gratifying play of the season thus far, and he's shown signs of becoming a reliable scoring threat throughout the entire game. I'd prefer it were happening while playing PG, but that's picking nits right now. I'm warming to the idea of using him in the role that 'Nova used him in (main perimeter threat/backup PG), hopefully build his confidence up through that, and gradually work in some more PG responsibilities. I'm mainly just happy for the guy. He's been lambasted from about every which way, it's good to see him playing well.
