Tim Gunn Takes the Wizards Shopping for Less Garish Uniforms

Post#1 » by CrankyTodd » Thu Jan 8, 2009 3:42 pm

Yes, it's the Onion.

WASHINGTON—Fashion consultant and Project Runway host Tim Gunn surprised the Washington Wizards Monday by unexpectedly arriving at the Verizon Center locker room and offering to help Wizards players shop for less repulsive uniforms.

"I happened to see the Wizards on television, and I couldn't believe the players were out in public wearing such garish jerseys and shorts," said Tim Gunn, who was born and raised in Washington, D.C. "That antique-gold color is just appalling, and frankly, the unbalanced black and white bands above the names look frumpy. Furthermore, the black star details running along the sides are very unflattering."

"No wonder the team is 7-26 this season," added Gunn, claiming he felt obligated to assist the "fashion-challenged" team. "It's just shameful for professional basketball players to be dressed in outfits that fail to accentuate their strength, sleekness, and athletic qualities."

And to think I got remotely excited when I read the headline. And those golds don't even touch the boring hideousness of our regular unis, IMO.

I own a million Wiz jerseys, but its impossible to accessorize with a bronze/gold (that faded to an olive green after 1000 washes on my ol' screenprinted webber jersey, lol) and some not quite teal/not quite blue.

I liked the classic plain looking jerseys during the C-Webb and Howard era.

I realize I am one of the old cranky guys on this board and tend to always talk nostalgically about the past. And I know I'm in the minority on this one. But, I just have to say, I really like the Wizards' regular uniforms.

The only Wiz jersey I own is an Arenas orange retro they were sporting a couple years back. Those were fooking sweet!

No joke, me too. The idea of someone taking a public stance against our uniforms would be great.

I hate the powder blue ones. I don't like the white ones. The gold one though, if you switched up all the black and gold on the top (basically, match it to the shorts), then I think that's be pretty nice. That just makes it all the more annoying though, that we could have a sweet jersey, but screwed it up.

I'm not a big fan of the Wizards gold jersey; for me this is the most beautiful Bullets/Wizards jersey ever:

I like the navy blue orange Bullets...that's my fave. The homes could be orange with navy numbers, and away is navy with orange numbers

If it were meant to be the Wiz would have won a championship with the name WIZARDS.

Mr Pollin won't change the name back, but maybe Ted will??

I like the oragne bullet throwback, I own a Gilbert one.

Make that the away Jersey orange

Make the home jerseys white and repl the blue/green trim
with oragne and blk??

The colors they have now are kinda lady like, fusha and gold.

Put it on the list for next year like everything else

I actually like the gold and black unis, although I agree that an inverted black jersey would look even better. I find the standard home blues to be rather blah; the whites are better but still unspectacular.

I shared this article with my girlfriend; she's a Project Runway fan, and got a kick out of it.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

My dream scenario is the red white and blues (like the MJ throwback) as our home unis, and the Orange (like the Arenas Bullets throwback) on the road.

So speaking of fashion and Gilbert. What the hell is the deal with his tailored suits that look like Members Only jackets? Epaulets and no collars, etc. It's weird.

I wish we'd adopt some new colors and get some new unis next season. it seems at least 2 teams switch to new unis in the offseason as of late.

But I do love the Zephyr jerseys we wore this year. Very simple look. I might have to buy a Butler one.

I like all of our jerseys I like the orange names on the back I need to get me one of those and I also like those gold ones they're different. I have a collection of Wiz jerseys from a gilbert gold one to his all star jersey although one I don't have and want is that orange throwback.

I don't hate any of our jerseys. I liked the orange crush ones. Probably my favorites were these, though they are relatively boring:

Something about the all-red was just cool to me. Could just be I liked big Gheorghe.
