Installing the offense and establishing a direction is pretty much Natt's only hope to keep the job. If he can get Pete to help the players like JT and Spencer develop well, and install an offense that suits our team, then he might get the job. If there is significant progress anyway. If not, he is just a lame duck and there is no point for him to even coach the rest of the season.
I don't think this is the precursor to Jordan getting the job at all. Pete is Geoff's guy, and Geoff drafted Princeton type of players, and Natt is desperate for some sort of system on offense, so it's a perfect fit IMO.

Eh, that was pretty much the only complaint I think fans brought up continuously besides the regular "fan" complaints. I myself am a little biased, I really like Etan Thomas and thought he actually didn't play enough. He's a solid defender himself you know. One thing I like about Eddie Jordan is he knows where his bread is buttered. He rides the backs of those who will give them the best chance to win every night, and as with Rick Adelman, maybe a little too much, but it's better than the crap we have now. Guys playing 40 minutes one night, and then 25 the next. He's also a bit of a players coach, something we need more than anything right now. The last 2 coaches were a little bit too high and mighty for their own good.
Yeah, Etan is solid and Haywood is one of the elite defensive centers in the league. The only real difference between this year's Wizards team and last year is Haywood, and look at the difference it has made. Another common complaint about him was his manlove for Jarvis Hayes.
Anyway, I would be fine with Eddie as a stopgap coach for a few years until we're ready to become a contender. But at that point, you have to cut him loose.

If there was ever a year to do something in the middle of the season it's this one. Hell, this falls on the list of all time forgotten seasons in Kings history already.

It might be nothing more than that. At least by that time the system might be in place. Just so happens there might be more than a few bigs in the draft that can run it (besides Jason and Spencer already here of course), Greg Monroe, Blake Griffin, Patrick Patterson, etc.

Then again, maybe coachie will be enough to really help get the system in place. I mean after all he did create it. And if I'm not mistaken, Tex Winter is still in a similar position with the Lakers.

Great news!
I vote for him to be our next coach, or better yet, have him in tandem with Tom Thibodeau! The Princeton with killer defense. One can only dream...

He could indeed be a bigger party than anyone in doing so but they need a coach that knows it too. Then again, Eddie I'm sure isn't the only possibility out there that can do what we need, but when you factor in his and Petries personal history, Eddies availability, our recent interest, and our open coaching vacancy it just seems waaaay too obvious. If Eddie Jordan isn't the next coach I'd be shocked.
I doubt at 78 years old Coachie is going to have a real big hands on role in anything other than helping in the area of development, which includes a general understanding of his own basketball concepts I'm sure.

Of course, but more importantly signs point to Petrie still wanting Eddie as coach given the interest before Reggie was hired. Plus Petrie brought coachie in to be on Jordans staff before Adelman came here.
I don't really know if hiring him will be a huge step in the right direction, but if you look at all the signs it seems to be the most likely scenario unless something drastic happens.
That was the point I was making. Is Jordan the right step? Well, I'm not saying that I well not welcome Jordan, of course not. He is, perhaps the ideal fit for the player's strengths. Take a look at which players can excel with the (variation) of Princeton Offense. You have a handful of players in our roster. But aside of Jordan's strengths. Jordan does have his shortcomings. Glaring ones. Like I mentioned before his rotations are pretty bad. He rather play Etan Thomas over Brendan Haywood! Haywood, arguably one of the best post defenders in this league today. And only legit defensive force/player in that roster. His late game plays are mediocre. His defensive scheme was basically trying to outscore the opponent. IMO that got him canned from Washington.
Eddie Jordan is a good fit for our players but it isn't the right step to become a legit contenders in the near future. Having Jordan makes us too offensive and pretty much non-existent on defense. We have to have a balance of the two. (Offense AND Defense). Not only one. We will win games, probably entertaining factor will return to the Kings. But only offense does not win in the playoffs.
The only condition(s) that I will welcome Eddie Jordan is getting the right balance of staff. First of all, the lead assistant(s) of Jordan must take defense as a #1 priority. Having a balance of the two would work well. Another condition is that getting the right kind of players. We already have Eddie Jordan-type of players in Martin, Miller, Garcia, and etc. We need defensive minded players as well. Think the 02-03 Kings. We had Jimmy Jackson, Keon Clark, Scott Pollard, a prime Bobby Jackson, Christie, Funderburke and etc. I still think modeling from that team is beneficial in many ways. That team was SO balance.
Eddie Jordan might be the logical choice for the mention reasons above but in general it isn't the right step forward if you are looking at the whole picture, which is winning a championship.
I think you are misinformed. I live in DC and follow the Wizards. Haywood, one of the best post defenders in the league? Are you kidding? Haywood was soft and Etan outplayed him and would've been the well deserved starter if not for his heart conditioned. Haywood was on the trading block and only survived because the Wizards couldn't get any takers. If he was what you say he was then why couldn't the Wizards get any takers. He performed well last year only because it was a contract year and where is he now, injured. And don't blame the no defense on Eddie, he preached defense constantly, sometimes pleading with his team at press conferences, he even called out the so called star of the team Gilbert at one press conference. A coach is at a loss if the star doesn't want to play defense and Gilbert never committed to it. Also, he was never given that inside guy who could score consistently or command attention in the paint. Instead, he had guys like Blatche who could never reach his potential or a level of consistency. At one point all he had was Ruffin, who competed and gave 150% but was just outmanned and way too small.
He was fired simply because he wasn't Grundfield's guy. The Wizards did the strange thing of hiring a coach before a GM. It never works. I think Grundfield was waiting for a reason to get rid of Eddie all along. He just couldn't do it until now which was a disgrace anyway. You fire a coach when his best offensive player is out until at least February, his best inside player (which isn't saying much) is out for possibly the year and you allow one of his best options at guard walk. Wow! And let's just talk about that star who was awarded a brand new max deal after destoying the chemistry of the team in the playoffs; simply because he didn't want the team to shine in his absence. He knew his knee wasn't ready; as a result, bam he needs another surgery. Plus, with Haywood out for probably the season and Thomas was coming off a serious heart ailment and a season long layoff. All he had down in the middle was Blatche, Songalia, and McGhee. He gave Blatche every opportunity to take the job but he was too inconsistent that's when he started to play McGhee who looks like a future star. Anytime the GM waits until after the season to extend a playoff coach. There is something wrong, that was the case 2 years ago. Don't worry Grundfield will be next since I believe Gilbert will never be the same and the Wizards just wasted a boatload of money on damage Goods. And he made the mistake of not signing Mason and keeping that garbage Stevenson.
Eddie is fine he made the playoffs last year and the year before with his big three injured at different points of the season. A few times he didn't have neither three. The reason for the crazy rotations was the inconsistency down low, like I said until last year, you didn't know what you would get from Haywood, boy what the last year of a contract will do for you. Thomas was hurt, Blatche's inconsistency. All this led to the weird rotations. At one point Songalia was his best option last year. In the backcourt the rotations were pretty much routine and like I say it was a mistake to let Mason go.
So, in my opinion Eddie is perfect for the job and should get it and I hope Carrill coming back signals as much. I think Petrie when he drafted Thompson was looking to get back to that Princeton anyway. With Webber and Divac coming back to get their #s retired, hopefully the organization can get them to consult or offer some guidance to the young bigs. It sure wouldn't hurt.

Wow! Where are you guys getting this info. If you guys go back and check. Haywoods best year as a pro was easily last year a contract year. Trust me most of the city was looking forward to him being moved before the season. As far as Hayes, he was never the same after his knee injuries but until Butler arrived the Wizards never replaced him. And Eddie wasn't in charge of personnel, Grundfield so to charge him with having manlove for Hayes is crazy. He had to play the best players available. Once Butler arrived they had no more need for Hayes. Which they acquired after getting rid of that other inside joke Kwame Brown. I don't have time to get into him.
Eddie is fine, I think he will be more succeful here. He has some nice young pieces outside and inside. And if things go the way I want them they will add some even better pieces inside and out.

Every Wizards fan I have ever talked to, and most have had very strong statistical evidence to back it up. Haywood's defensive ratings have always been very, very good, and he has traditionally given offensive players fits in the post. There's a reason that Washington's defensive rating went up last year--a lot of it was Haywood getting more minutes. And there's a reason that this year's team is so much worse than last years. There is one player missing (Gilbert was barely around last year and not at all this year). Almost all of the best post scorers in the game score below their average against Washington (sometimes far below), and Haywood is a big, big reason for that.

All I have to say is whoever those Wizards fans are they are wrong. And I don't know when it was that Haywood didn't get time? Haywood has received good minutes with the Wizards ever since he entered the league. He may have had those minutes reduced when he wasn't producing.
Point blank he is soft and was known to be soft when he was at North Carolina. He's 7 feet and has never avg more than 8 rbs.
Like I said he was beat out by Thomas during the 06-07 season. His response was to fight Thomas.
Haywood is a good shot blocker and like I said he had a good season last year. He didn't have the rebounding #s but he played tough for basically the first time in his career. Which is why those Wizards fans are saying he's the reason why they are struggling this year. This is true compared to last year but like I say that was a contract year. Now that he has his deal let's see if he can continue to play like he did last year.
I think the defense improved with the arrival of Butler. If Haywoods defense was so great how do your Wizards fans explain the poor defense before last year?
Here's a link to ESPN and look at his stats more importantly look at the Wizards opponents' points avg. Where is the Haywood effect? In particular look at o4-05 where he avg. 27 minutes like last year. They still gave up 100 pts a game. You notice that Butler wasn't there. Then look at 05-06 and last year these are the 2 yrs that they held their opponents under 100. These are the years that they had a real shot to do something. Butler and probably the fact that Daniels was starting for Gilbert were the real reasons for their improved defense not Haywood.
