DJ Steal of draft. Draft redone

Brook Lopez has an arguement with this and I admit I thought Brook was the better pick but I had a change of heart after thinking about it again.
Brook will be at least a 15 11 and 3 guy which is very valuable so Nets fans could debate this well but I go with DJ.
The league is no longer dominated by Centers.
PG's who are real pg's and truely make people better are very rare. For a Center it is great to have a star but you can easily get away with a guy who plays good D and can score a little. You can't get away with not having a real pg and win unless your the Lakers. It's easy to get a pg who can score but a pg that can score but wants to make plays for others is where it's at.

If the draft were to be done again this is how I think it should go and would go like this (would the scrub the knicks picked even get drafted?)

2.O.J. Mayo
3.Michael Beasley
4.Russell Westbrook
5.DJ Augustin
6.Brook Lopez

Top 6 will be allstars imo

7.Kevin Love
8.Eric Gorden
9.Jason Thompson
10.George Hill
11.Marresse Spreights
12.Joe Alexander (I think he has potential)
13.Koufus
14.Batum
15.Mario

What do you guys think? Anybody care to make a top 10

Brook Lopez an Allstar ? No chance. The only 3 who have a shot at allstars are mayo, rose and beasley.

It's wayyyyyyyyyyyy too early to tell.

Gordon, for example, now that he is getting a chance with all the injuries in LA, has been really producing.

Love, after a mid Dec slump, is coming on strong again.

Randolph might end up being a total stud (if he gets away from Nellie!!)

You have to wait at least 3 years before you can re-draft a draft IMO.

Your insane and have not been paying attention to Russell Westbrook. I know Thunder games aren't televised much but that's no excuse

Michael Beasley has a good chance as well. There not giving him a ton of minutes because of his D but most rookies suck at D and he averagine 13 points in 26 minutes. He clearly is gonna be a 20 point a game pf, maybe even 22 points and at least 8 boards a game. That is a potential allstar for sure.

Russell Westbrook- surely has a chance to be an allstar. He is averaging 14 points 4 boards and 4 assists with over a steal a game in under 30 minutes. If he can learn to be a real pg he will be a 6'3 pg who is super strong, has a max verticle of like 80 inches and is the most athletic pg in the game. He is one of the top 5 most athletic players in the game already and his defensive potential is amazing.
He will be a 20 point a game scorer for sure, he already had a 39 point game and has been playing great in the starting lineup which he is in right now.
He will average 20 points 7 assists and 5 rebounds with 2-3 steals.
He can be a top 5 pg in the game for sure. He can also play the sg without a problem. Very few players can play pg and sg fulltime. Alot of players can do it for a quarter of if injuries but he can play either position for a career.

Brook Lopez- has a chance to be an allstar. There arent alot of superstar centers out there espially not in the East. Outside of Dwight Howard who is a star center in the east? Not many.

I forgot to make an arguement for my own man.

DJ-first off he has the potential to lead league history in free throw % which suggests hard work and fundamentals. He is a pass first guy but has clearly showed he is a very capable scorer. Once he is a starter and in his 3rd year there is no reason to think he won't be a 19 point a game scorer at least if he is on a team that needs scoring. He is getting almost 5 assists in less then 30 minutes on a team that uses there pf to do most of the playmaking. He also doesn't exactly have a bunch of great scorers on his team to get those easy assists guys like Nash and Paul get. He will though it's only a matter of time.
When he is in his 3rd year and runs the team totally he is gonna be a 18 and 8 guy. He doesn't gamble for steals alot so he has the potential to be a decent defensive player in spite of his size.
Even if he never actually makes the allstar team he will be a star. He will always be in the mix of top pg's and in the running to be an allstar.

Trade DJ? The only trade idea I said with DJ was in my fantasy just for fun play the gm thread.
And DJ and Crash are my favorite Bobcats and therefor DJ is clearly my favorite rookie so yeah he's my man. I also posted a list of my favorite players and he was on it. Let me for the record list my favorite players on record.

You are right. I think it was actually measured at 82 inches at UCLA, but someone else would have to confirm?

Hickson, Randolph, McGee, Bayless and Courtney Lee also look very promising in limited minutes. DeAndre Jordan looks like a possible 2nd round steal if he develops. Galinari hasn't even played yet. It's just too early to tell at this point.

Are you guys serious? Obviously 80 inches was being sarcastic. When the broadcasters say he can jump out of the gym do you guys take it literal and think he can leave the building by jumping? His max vertical is listed on draftexpress and Im guessing it is around 40 or so if not more. I think 42 is the nba record.

Thought I'd respond to this thread as it opens a timely opportunity to take issue (again) with our picks.

The steal of the draft was Mario Chalmers. NBA observers say he already has a veteran's game, and it's amazing he lasted until the 2nd round. One would think former Kansas coach Larry Brown would have known plenty about this guy when our #9 pick came up, and CHOSEN BROOK LOPEZ! Then, having picked our big man who fell to us after being projected top 5, Brown would have raised eyebrows in taking Chalmers in the first round. "That's a bit of a reach, but Brown has a fondness for Kansas players" the commentators would have said.

Monday January 12th - Brook Lopez - 31 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks, 11 of 12 from the line.

Season averages YTD: Lopez = 10.7 PPG, 8.2 RPG / Chalmers = 9.9 PPG, 4.6 APG

I like DJ, but our draft of he and Frenchie compared to Lopez & Chalmers is NO CONTEST. :vent:

Augustin has a chance to be a superstar, while Lopez and Chalmers look to be just solid NBA players with Lopez having a slightly better upside. I liked what Charlotte did in the draft, and when Augustin takes his game to a whole new level I think you will as well, but I see where youre coming from as alot of people have stated that same thing.

I think "superstar" is a little strong for DJ... there aren't that many "superstar" point guards, and I really don't think we stumbled upon the next Nash or Paul yet. I doubt Lopez is one either, but right now I would be equally enamored of either given their production so far. Chalmers really did surprise me though, and I think it's certainly fair to say that I'd rather have Lopez+Chalmers right now than Augustin+Ajinca. But of course, I can't start really making fun of the Ajinca pick for another year.

I am sad with the pick of Frenchie, as his production as a rookie does not make me believe he will emerge one day as a quality player.

No matter how you judge a guy's physical attributes/potential based on height, fluidity of movement, etc., no player THIS RAW makes a leap in a few years into NBA stardom. Dwight Howard looked pretty average in his rookie season, but he was already built like an oak tree. At 19, he just needed to fill in the skills and learn the nuances of the NBA game. Ajinca is a beanpole, and no amount of protein IV's will make him turn into a mighty fortress.

I never said Chalmers will be an all-star, but he will be a very solid starting PG for years to come. Plus he has height and size that DJ does not. The physical liabilities of both our picks will limit their potential.

Lopez has a chance to be a special player. He won't equal Howard, but give him another year or 2; I predict he will be a reserve all-star on the Eastern squad.

BLOWN DRAFTS HAVE AND WILL KEEP THIS TEAM FROM REACHING ANY SIGNIFICANT PLAYOFF SUCCESS OVER THE NEXT 4 YEARS. We will need to be extremely lucky to perform otherwise.
