Simeon Rice cut/failed physical...

Post#1 » by Nemesis21 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 2:09 am

Defensive end Simeon Rice, one of the NFL's most dominant pass rushers over the past decade, will no longer be playing in Tampa Bay.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Buccaneers terminated Rice's contract because he failed a physical. Rice, who had shoulder surgery last season, had played six seasons with Tampa Bay and was an integral member of the defense that powered the Bucs' 2003 Super Bowl run.

He had one season remaining on his contract, at a base salary of $7.25 million for 2007, and an exorbitant salary cap charge.

this sucks a lot!

Yeah, I don't like this. I think they should have kept him until he was ready. Come playoff time (if we get there) he could have been really valuable. Adams better be everything he's advertised to be.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

While the Bucs have other DE's who can certainly fill in and start, it looks like Adams is the only pure pass rusher on the roster just from glancing at it, so that could be an issue as you need pressure in the Cover 2. Still, the Bucs could gain a little against the run with more run oriented DE's.

Uh. Why would you want to stall Adam's to keep Rice around? I heard the same thing about injury prone bugger when we traded him. I bet we are all glad that we got rid of him before that knee injury. Getting rid of rice now is the smart move. Adams is the same exact type of player. We don't need two pass rush happy DE's and no solid run stoppers in there.
