Coaching Staff Hires Thread

Post#1 » by Sweezo » Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:10 am

There's enough significant movement going on that I'd like to see what people's thoughts are apart from the other thread[s]. Gone are most of the incumbents, with the possible lone exception being Mike Solari [OL coach]. This is the list of new coaching hires so far:

Head Coach: Jim Mora, Jr.
OC: Greg Knapp
DC: Casey "Gus" Bradley
DL Coach: Dan Quinn
LB coach: Joe Barry

The offense seems pretty self-explanatory. Knapp and Solari are both zone blocking friendly, and Knapp will probably bring a less complex, run friendly verison of the WCO while not eschewing shotgun formations.

But what about defensively? Mora's probably going to do most of the play-calling, but we've just hired two guys [Bradley and Barry] who come from the Tampa 2 style of play. And Quinn has been working with 3-4 defenses the last few years.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but I'm wondering how this affects our draft plan. If you're hiring Tampa 2 guys, and you're head coach is known to have an affinity for drafting CBs earlier and getting playmakers at that position, seems a good possibility we target another corner in the draft.
