I can't see the Heat trading him to an intra-conference rival, especially one ahead in the standings

Hmmm....

Claxton would almost certainly have to be involved. Or some combo of Zaza + crap, which would seem to defeat the purpose.

why would they give us a solid player in haslem and then take on speedy's bad contract.

Because we give them our pick next year.

But, yeah, they'd decline that as well. Usually, by the time we hear about these "discussions," one side has already backed out or was never interested to start with.
