Conley to Bucks, Sessions/JA to Grizz

Post#1 » by EastSideBucksFan » Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:57 pm

This is our best beat reporter for the Bucks and he's making it sound like this is a done deal, just waiting for our owner approval, but doesn't say when that will happen.

I didn't see anything on here, I thought you guys would be interested

Are Bucks set to play 'Let's Make a Deal'?

By GERY WOELFEL

It’s hardly a secret the Milwaukee Bucks have been working the phones to make a trade,

There have been continuous rumors forward Charlie Villanueva is being shopped and whispers about Michael Redd being dealt.

Backup guard Charlie Bell’s name has also been bandied about in trade talks and it is believed some teams have contacted the Bucks about the availability of veteran small forward Richard Jefferson.

The latest rumor to surface is the Bucks possibly trading backup point guard Ramon Sessions and forward Joe Alexander, who was the eighth overall selection in last June’s NBA draft, to the Memphis Grizzlies.

In return, the Bucks would obtain point guard Michael Conley Jr., who was the No. 4 overall selection in the 2007 draft.

The Bucks would also likely receive a future draft choice.

I’ve been told both teams have virtually agreed on the conditions of the trade and only Bucks owner Herb Kohl had to give his stamp of approval. Bucks general manager John Hammond, reached in North Carolina where he was on a scouting trip, said it was his policy not to comment on any trade speculation.

As a rookie last season, Conley played in 53 games and started 46. He averaged 9.4 points and 4.2 assists.

But Conley has struggled this season, starting only 18 of 37 games. He is averaging 7.5 points and 4.9 assists.

Sessions spent most of last season in the NBA's D-League with Tulsa before becoming the Bucks starting point guard when Mo Williams got hurt.

Sessions played well then and is playing well now, although he has been used primarily as a back up to Luke Ridnour. Sessions is averaging 10.8 points and 4.5 assists.

Alexander has played sparingly behind veteran small forward Richard Jefferson. He has appeared in 27 games, averaging 4.1 points.

Conley, who worked out for the Bucks before last year’s draft, is making $3.63 million this season. He’ll earn $3.88M next season with a team option for $4.91M the following season.

Alexander is being paid $2.4 million this season and Sessions makes $711,000.

While the Bucks and Grizzlies may be in agreement on the aforementioned deal, neither team is under any pressure to consummate it quickly since the league-imposed trading deadline isn’t until Feb. 19.

Yeah - may not have been touched on here. You can read up on some input from the Grizz fans side here on the Grizz main boards.

what a great trade! Sessions is an upgrade from Conley and Joe Alexander could contribute immediately for us.

I for one would be very excited to have a big guard at the point with his quickness. If you look at Sessions production in limited minutes he could definitely be a keeper at seasons end, although he does not qualify for Bird's rights and will be unrestricted, he may have to love it here to resign. Having Joe Alexander is just icing on the cake on the deal.

One ramification if the deal is consumated, is that D. Miles may not be signed to a second 10 day contract as they view him as more of a power forward than small forward, or at least Coach I. does.

That would be too bad because IMO we could use the athletic ability he brings.

This trade needs to happen NOW.

I'd rather have Damon Jones' expiring contract than Joe Alexander though.

I already know the answer but I wonder if the Grizzlies throw in expiring contract Hakim Warrick and expiring next season contract Darko Milicic into the deal and were willing to take back Dan Gadzuric if they could get Luc Mbah A Moute thrown into the deal?

This guy has to be the steal of the draft in my opinion. I already have him rated as one of the top pure defenders in the league. Just watch how this guy positions both his feet and hands and generally harrasses the $hit out of players. He rebounds and puts up decent points in under 25 minutes a game as well. I honestly feel that he would change the whole chemistry on the Grizzlies with his defense.

Agreed. The Bucks are willing to part with Alexander, who could become an exciting player with some PT, only because Mbah a Moute has emerged.

And the Bucks GM has already declared Bogut as untouchable. But if this deal includes a protected first or second round pick is it still viewed as favorable amongst Grizz fans?

A real pick, personally, not interested. The Grizz have many holes, and unless we are getting someone to help on the court AND at the gate, the Grizz should refrain from trading any draft picks (except these protected 2nds that are protected through 55 and then turn into $100,000 or whatever). The Grizz should feel free to trade all of those.

I think we all agree Sessions and JA is a little too much for just Conley. I'm pretty sure the Lakers 2010 1st will be thrown in but even then that is a late first and if Conley continues the way he is playing, which could obviously happen, we get raped.

JA is getting a bit more PT lately and last game looked very good. Once he comes on he will be a very very good shotblocker at SF and his obvious physical attributes are impressive and he ended up with something like 11/5/5 with a blcok in under 20 mins last game (I think). Obviously Sessions is impressive and there is no reason he wont continue the way he is developing and be much better than Conley. He is already a pretty good scoring PG with nice size.

What I am asking here is what is the possibility of adding in Arthur and we add our 2010 2nd. We are short on PF's and he would fit well here.

Sessions, JA, 2010 2nd

FOR

Conley, Arthur and Lakers 2010 first.

I think that is reasonably fair?

No, no and hell no. The pick alone is pushing towards unreasonable - Arthur's way the hell over the top.

I'm ambivalent on this trade all together. If it happens as has been reported, fine. If not, fine as well. Sweetening the deal for the Bucks? No

It looks like Mike Conley will be pulled off of the trading block. I thought he was being showcased when he was inserted back into the starting lineup but he has shown enough flashes that not only does he not look like a stiff but it would make the organization seem very impatient to move him, that and in the fourth quarter of games OJ Mayo opens up his own turnover factory, so eventually handing him the reigns seems, just whacky.
