Just an outside observer
You guys have way too much talent to have the record you do. A little more emphasis on defense could swing the record around 180 degrees. Usually I don't like to blame coaches--but I don't think this is the best coach--kind of proven every where he has been. The team is better than it's record.

Re: Just an outside observer
Agreed. But we're in a funny spot. We've had a real overhaul of roster, and we're still experimenting with lineups. Add to the equation the injuries of TJ and Dunleavy and you get the current result. We have still managed to show enough ability to beat the Celtics,Lakers and Suns so it's not all bad. We remain competitive enough through most games, albeit a last 5 minutes collapse.
We're in a tough spot, but still within reach of the playoffs. This team just needs some more time.

Man, I have never looked at a basketball coach and say "Wow, this guy is an idiot." until I saw Jim O'Brien. 3 Games into his career with the Pacers and I called him as an awful coach. He is still the only basketball coach that I have ever seen lose a game because of the decisions he makes.

A lot of it has been luck. I know it sounds like a stupid argument, but it's true.

I dont think the losing will continue forever , there are some good elements to this team.
Maybe a post-all star break run?

Re: Just an outside observer
^^That's the plan. We did also have a difficult schedule to begin the year with. A late run is within capabilities.

If you look at our schedule in February we play alot of teams with losing records, a 10-3 month is not out of the question.

But, all those bad teams you're referring to, are saying the same exact thing about us. lol

No the only way we have a chance to win is if O'brien get 2 techs in the first quarter and get thrown out.

Yes I'm been watching the same games. Just cause we are close don't mean anything, a loss is a loss whether it by 2 or 20. The only difference is that if we lose by 2 we know the team didn't listen to JOB the whole game and he is going to call a time out in the final seconds to remind us how to lose it. If we lose by 20 they listened to him the whole game. If I were Granger I couldn't take it. The whole point is why not play the guys that you know are going to be here next year so they can take their lumps this year we are going to lose either way.

It's not as if we are losing games by 15 points each game. We are consistently there until the final buzzer. It might be quiet optimism, but a team that loses a bunch of games by 5 points or less (in most cases against teams with a greater deal of talent), is close to getting it right. If not anything we are extremely competitive.

Re: Just an outside observer
The Pacers have seen Dunleavy injured for the bulk of the season, are giving up something like 7 more free throw attempts (then they get) a game, and outside of Foster don't really have a strong post defender. Sure Rasho is big and block shots, but a lot of teams use more athletic Centers now.
