Trade Advisor: Ask 4 Trade Advise Here

Post#1 » by W. Unseld » Mon May 21, 2007 7:26 pm

I'll start. I'm in a keeper league where everyone keeps 3 picks. Running back is the most valuable position. I am weak on keeper running backs. Would you guys trade Portis for a second round pick? He had shoulder issues last season and apparently has some knee tendonitis going on now. I think it's a no-brainer b/c Portis isn't going to have back to back bad years and it's really like trading Portis for a 4th round pick since we each have 3 keepers on a 15 man roster.

How many teams in this league?

I view Portis as around a Mid second in a 10-team league. So basically, if your league has around 8 teams, then its a fair trade, if its less, its a good trade, if its more, its a bad trade.

Portis for a Second pick, I wouldn't do it...

If you have 3 keepers per team, that means that the best 30 or so players are already kept, and after the first round that means that the best 40 or so players (probably more) will be off of the board.

Now ask yourself is Portis a top 40 player in fantasy football, especially in a league where RB's are important, especially when any remaining starting RB will be gone at the end of the first round, it makes no sense at all. Portis is still w/ all his troubles one of the 10 best RB's in the league, in a keeper league you can't trade him for only a pick in the second round.

Stash, I traded my second round (really 4th round pick b/c the first 3 rounds are taken up by keepers) for Portis. What would your thoughts on that be?

Just a little advice...the word 'advise' is misspelled wrong in the thread title...

If roughly thirty players were keepers, then grabbing Portis might be a smart move...

I'd say Brown/Jordan...

I like Reggie better than Matt as a yardage receiver, and LaMont is going to be given another shot with Rhodes suspended.

Ok, here's my team:

Starters:
QB: Drew Brees
RB: Steven Jackson
RB: Travis Henry
WR: Lee Evans
WR: Marques Colston
RB/WR: Maurice Jones Drew
TE: Vernon Davis

K: Shayne Graham
Defense: Pittsburgh

Bench:
QB: Ben Roethlisburger
RB: Ahman Green
RB: Adrian Peterson
RB: Brandon Jackson
WR: Reggie Brown
WR: Mark Clayton
---------------------------------------------

A really good team, I know.

One of the players in my league offered me:

RB Clinton Portis and WR Roy Wlliams for Travis Henry? Is this a good trade for me? At first glance, I'm not sure it is. I think Henry is due for a huge year, and I'm worried about Portis's injury history as well as the fact that he could split some carries with Ladell Betts. However, I'm well aware that Roy Williams is considered a #1 type fantasy WR...but does this make up for the gap between Henry and Portis?

Edit:
After doing some research, it appears Portis is visiting
Doctor James Andrews for a look at his knee (tendonitis). I'm definately holding off on making such a trade, but I'd still like to hear initial thoughts.

Not a good trade, even without Portis' knee problems.

I think Henry, this year, could just about out produce Portis, even without his knee problems.

I like the combination of Hasslebeck and Alexander more so than Smith and LJ.

But (even though I always seem to do this) its never a good idea to have a QB/RB or a RB/WR combination of the same team, unless its the Colts or Rams.

I kind of disagree (Portis' knee news was good btw). I think Denver will give carries to Mike Bell so I don't know that the Henry to Portis drop off will make up for getting Roy Williams, who I think will be an even bigger stud this year.

I have Palmer as my only QB.
I have TJ Houch, reggie brown, galloway, braylon edwards, santonio holmes, and greg jennings as my WRs

My question is: Should I drop jennings for a backup qb (schaub, grossman)? And, would you replace any of my WR's with free agents matt jones, anthony gonzalez, or randle el?

Can you please elaborate on why you like Hasselback/alexander more than LJ/Alex Smith??? I don't know if I agree with that quick assesment.
