NBA comparisons from the scouting websites:

Collison:
DX - best: Earl Watson, worst: Chris Duhon
.net comparison: Darrell Armstrong

Lawson:
DX - best: TJ Ford, worst: Jamaal Tinsley
.net comparison: Terrell Brandon

Thabeet:
DX: Dalembert/N'Diaye
.net: Mutombo

Budinger:
DX: best: Brent Barry, worst: Kelenna Azubuike
.net: Grant Hill

DX doesn't have comparisons for most of the prospects

Singler would be a give-up-on-Brewer kinda selection (with the Miami pick, I assume), especially if a guard is taken with the Wolves' pick, but I'd probably be down with it.

I guess I haven't watched Singler much, but I got the exact opposite impression from DX's Singler profile:

Being a Big 12 fan I am watching the Texas at Oklahoma game tonight and a little bit ago they zoomed in on The Mayor scouting the game. Of course they had nice things to say about him as a former Big 12 player and rising young executive for the Timberwolves....let's hope.

I think there were several scouts there probably most scouting Blake Griffin who the camera person seems to not be able to get their camera off him tonight.

terrible...the best shooting PG in college compares to the worst shooting PG in the NBA? And how could the best case be Watson and worst case be Duhon when Duhon is better than Watson?

They're all bad comparisons, Collison is a supersonic PG that can shoot the lights out and all they can come up with is a bunch of bricklaying backups

Collison projects as a role player. A good back-up. Nothing wrong with that, but is that what we really want or need right now?

That's usually what you get in the mid-to-late first round. I think he'd be a decent value around the Utah pick if the Wolves get it.

yea, I guess it depends on what we do with the rest of the draft. Personally, I would like to add a young stud wing ala Harden or Holiday. But if we do a trade, or draft another position then perhaps Collison late would be a nice move. As a back-up pg he could have a long Greg-Anthony type career.

We will have some big decisions on draft day.

I can't wait for January 31st. Oklahoma and Blake Griffen come to play in Ames at Hilton. We really have no bigs that can handle him. Craig Brackins is a skinny(SKINNY) 6'10" and would be very overmatched by Griffen. Maybe the Mayor will come back to Iowa State for this game. I'll be watching for him.

Tyreke Evans is on TV right now, both the good and bad about his game are shining through. One thing I didn't know is that Memphis has moved him to the point. If he can play PG in the NBA, he should totally be on all of our radars. 6'6" with a ridiculous wingspan and he's very athletic.

Have yet to see any difference in his play, however.

not to sound like an utter rube but after the bobby knight piece on curry I have spent some time doing research and he might be back on my board. if he is anything near the 6'3 dx has him at. knight called him the best passer in college bball. showed great vision and leadership. maybe he is a 7-10 prospect.

I dont think Curry is 6'3, i think he is closer to 6'1. Good scorer, but he is gonna get bruised up by NBA guards.

Skinny guards can make it in the NBA, though. Look at Iverson or Reggie Miller or Rip Hamilton. It's definitely a disadvantage, but it's not insurmountable. I just saw coach Knight's bit on Curry as well....and he really did present a pretty convincing case for Stephen Curry beyond scoring...I could get on board with a Stephen Curry pick. I'm still very high on Jeff Teague.

Anyone see Jodie Meeks for Kentucky go off for 54 on Tennessee? I don't think he has the physical tools to be a major NBA player, but DAMN! I wish I was watching that game. All time single game scoring record in school history.

Here's a player for North Dakota State that Klomp brought up last year that I was a bit too quick to shoot down.
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Ben-Woodside-5502/

Yeah, I know, he plays for NDSU, but he's got a seriously dangerous jumper. His physical limitations will probably still hold him back from the NBA (being only 5'11").

DX gives a good report on him, but I'll summarize it for those who don't want to read it:

DEADLY jumper past NBA 3pt range. Because of this he gets into the lane often because they have to play him tight and he has very good quickness for a mid-major PG. He is averaging 7.1 apg mostly off simple passes to open teammates when defenses key in on him, but this does mean that he is finding teammates when they are open and in good scoring position. He has a solid but not spectacular 2.14 a/to ratio, which has gone up since the writing of the article. When he drives sometimes he makes up his mind prematurely to take the shot rather than pass and sometimes he attempts circus passes that are either spectacular or a turnover. His defense is sporadic. On the ball it is good when he is focused due to his quickness and IQ, but off the ball it is generally a bit lackadaisical.

Bottom line: Terrific scorer with good quickness and he finds open teammates regularly, though he is a bit undersized and lacks consistent focus on defense.

I don't think he'll be drafted since he'll almost be 24 by the time of the draft, but I think he would definitely be worth giving an invite to for summer league to see how he fairs against better competition.

Iverson is one of, if not THEE, quickest guards ever to play in the NBA and he's completely fearless. Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton are 6'7"

Stephen Curry, while quick, is no where near Iverson, and he's 4-5 inches shorter than Miller and Rip.

I think Curry has the potential to be a good player, but I don't think he works for the Wolves. Plus his shot is ugly, it goes in, but god it's ugly. I think there's some kind of divine intervention going on there.

I think he is best suited to play next to a big guard or point fwd. Ala James. Not next to a shorter SG in Foye. But I think in the right system he could play pg.

I think we've both said this a couple times, and I still agree. He'd look good next to a big wing who handles the ball a lot. He'd be able to run off screens and spot up. He probably wouldn't look too bad in the triangle either.

Well that part is undeniably a Reggie Miller trait.

I realize there are differences, but I was just saying that skinniness isn't an insurmountable short coming.

if he gets on the right team i think Collison is going to surprise the hell out of folks! i love this kid. he can finish with either hand and is a deft defender.
