On Sparky's postgame, someone said that Kohl just nixed the deal? Is this true? Anyone have any info?

If he did nix the deal....WHAT THE HELL FOR? Don't get me wrong, I don't love the deal, but you just got a friggen new GM and you nix this fairly minor deal. If true....total BS!

Re: 1/12: Woelfel: Conley deal waiting for Herb (poll added)
By the time I got to this thread it was already 27 pages long! I haven't had time to read it all so I'm sure this has probably been mentioned but it is at least partially Ramon's fault that he looks to be on the block. He had a TERRIBLE camp and pre-season, so bad that he was made inactive for the first few games of the regular season before our injury list gave him a chance, hell CB could hardly move and was in the rotation before him. Not only did Ridnour smash him out of a starting job but Lue beat him for the backup, he was horrible and close to the worst player on our roster in that period.
I'd lay money that if he'd beaten out Ridnour for the starters job early and had played even only on a similar level to what he has the last month or so there's no way he'd be on the block and he'd collect a nice $6-$8m per payday from us at seasons end, but I'm sure the coaching and admin staff lost plenty of confidence with him in that period. Do they really want to invest $30m that they can't afford on a guy who can be THAT bad for an extended period of time? Not saying I agree with it, but I'm sure that would have played a part.
It's also worth considering that Hammond and/or Skiles have been coveting Conley for some time and possibly even tried to flip the #8 or some other package to get him in the offseason. Does anyone know if Memphis liked JA before the draft? I'm not suggesting we picked Alexander with a pure plan of flipping him for Conley down the track but I'm sure these kinds of things were discussed, many people have wanted Conley as it hasn't worked out in Memphis for whatever reason.
I'm sure this has been mentioned but I'd much rather use Ramon in a package to get a player like Conley than watch him walk at seasons end when someone gives him an offer we can't afford to match if that's what it comes to.
All that said I'm still against this deal, but I do trust Hammond and will live with whatever he does within reason.

Does that mean that if he does something unreasonable, you'll die?

Woelfel on with Sparky now. I missed the first part. Can anyone recap?
I just heard the part where Gery said "I talked to many people yesterday who thought this would be a done deal. But then about an hour and half ago, the people I talked with all clammed up...not sure what that means......"
Then Sparky said one of our callers said he heard Herb nixed the deal. Woelfel has not heard that yet.

I haven't read the last 10 pages... but where has this we are getting a first talk coming from?

If Herb calls of the deal, Hammond should threaten to walk. Even though it's a smallish deal, Kohl is still trying to interfere. How awful would Kohl and this franchise look if Hammond bolted?

Not saying I'm for the trade, but if Hammond is then this deal should be done, he should be allowed to do his job. If Kohl was for it but then clammed up for some reason because of maybe perceived fan backlash or something, well that is not a good way to do business.
If Hammond thought this was a good deal then it should be done given how little the financial impact is.

Woelfel was only talking about tonight's game prior to that. The part you paraphrased was right when he started talking about the rumored Conley trade. The only thing I can think to add to that is he specifically mentioned the Bucks players' agents as part of the "many people" he talked to earlier who believed the trade was going down.

Yup, well said. Kohl is turning into Al Davis.

All Conley trades should be locked. Waste of time unless we unload Gads or Redd. lol

Re: 1/12: Woelfel: Conley deal waiting for Herb (poll added)
No way I think this trade goes down.
For the record I'm about 55-45 in favor but it's not a no-brainer by any means especially without the 1st rounder thrown in. And I don't have a problem at all with Kohl being apprehensive. First off it's his team, deal with it. Secondly if I'm him I'd have to question why the hell you drafted a guy with the 8th pick who you're ready to give up on as a freakin throw-in for a guy who to this point has done nothing. If you messed up that badly in drafting the guy why should I blindly look the other way as you try use another young asset to fix your f**kup.
Again I'm pretty much for the trade but in no way did I think Kohl's involvement going forward was just going to be Hammond e-mailing him the standings every Monday. Nor should it be. It's his team.

Re: 1/12: Woelfel: Conley deal waiting for Herb (poll added)
I have a hard time seeing this deal actually go down at this point, just as it was difficult for me to see the Landry trade happen when CV and Lue suited up and played in that game two weeks ago.
GAD, I know you think players play in these games all the time right before being dealt. I disagree. If a deal is "done" save for some paperwork, both teams race to finish the thing before either team has to play another game. You've got multi-million dollar assets and liabilities on the line here. Nobody on either side wants egg on their face with an injury or something else happening by putting the players on the court.
If this trade truly was only awaiting Kohl's sign-off, and Hammond and Memphis had agreed on it otherwise, it would have come down right before tonights game and Ramon and Alexander would have been held out. I'll be glad to be proven wrong if this thing does get announced tomorrow.

I think this is being overblown. Last year we all believe that Kohl wanted Yi drafted to bring in the money from China. At the time, this was probably true, however, when Hammond decided to move Yi instead of CV, Kohl didn't block it. It does seem peculiar that the deal is said to be waiting on Kohl to sign off, but if he was willing to move Yi even though there is some projected financial positives to keeping him, I can't imagine he'd feel uber-compelled to keep JA due to some silly Slam Dunk contest campaign or any of the other reasons that have been speculated upon.
