Thoughts after this brief 2 game streak

Post#1 » by celticsnut » Tue Jan 13, 2009 1:30 pm

It is evident that the biggest difference between our slump and these two wins is that we are making shots, especially last night. I am however mind boggled how doc can play PP for 50 mins, KG for 40 and Ray for 45. I mean in hindsight it was fine because Pierce was in a groove, but for a guy that was 50/50 coming in to play 50 mins is unreal. Had he made that free throw though, we don't go into overtime so I will put part of the blame on Paul (said very sarcastically). I thought the bench played well in stretches and I would have loved to have seen Bill Walker, but I understand why he didn't get in due to the nature of the game and the score. I wonder if Danny could get Bonzi Wells from China, he would be great to spell PP for 15-20 mins a game. Anyways, that is beside the point. Can anyone please answer to me on why Doc is scared to bench Rondo when he lets Ukic blow by him and Will solomon come off of screens and hit J's. Gabe does nothing wrong and Doc praises him but he always gets the hook after about 5 mins in the game. I just feel like Rajon looks so uninterested at times. When he is into the game, he and we are unstoppable. I mean the pass he threw into KG late and Kapono stole it and darn near knocked down a three to bring it within one. Trust me I am very excited about the wins, we all know we need them, but we need to continue to execute down the stretch of games and the rest will take care of itself.

Well, it's a pretty light schedule coming up, games Wednesday, Saturday, Monday, with the only travel being a puddle jump to play the Nets. The vets will have a chance to put their feet up and rest, and I suppose with Walker and Giddens around those guys can keep practice going for the rest.

I think with all the recent losses, Doc probably wanted to go all out for the win to help build the overall team morale. Too bad the minutes were so high though.

Pruitt been playing nice, but I think Doc will continue to ride Rondo as much as possible, to play him out of his funk (mostly done).

My main thought after this two game stretch, is actually positive thoughts about Scal. He's been a decent fill in, although I'm thankful we've been playing perimeter big men instead of the Howards of the league.

not much choice w/ the big 3 when your center and your 6th man on a shallow team are out for extended time...

I don't care if we're on a 82 game win streak we still have glaring weaknesses. Our backup center and even starting center position right now stinks with Perk out. We still need a backup small forward with length that can shoot and also we need a backup point guard who doesn't wet his pants when he's pressured. Plus even our backup shooting guard position isn't worth writing home about.

still need

a Backup Center, Small Forward and Point Guard.

my thoughts after this brief 2 game streak is this. I think Danny Ainge did a bad job this past off-season building a team around the big 3. Ainge didn't want to invest the years into James Posey. Ok I can buy that but why not offer some of that mid-level to a PG like Jannero Pargo. Ask New Orleans if they miss Pargo this season. If Danny sign Pargo and let go Eddie House to me that would have been an upgrade. Then instead of signing POB to a contract why wouldn't they got after a PJ Brown type player in Juwan Howard? On a night when Paul Pierce has to play 50 mins, KG and Ray has to play over 40 minutes vs a team who is messing two of their top three players and it took us and extra 5 minutes or over-time play to beat them. I learn that this team lack quality bench help.

My thoughts are that Boston remains in a slump. The team could've lost the first game versus Toronto in the fourth quarter. And it took overtime to defeat the same team the next game. The Celtics aren't playing defense as they once were and have trailed to teams early on or have led but have surrendered or nearly surrendered that lead by the second half. The bench is lacking a real six man and reliable depth at the point guard and center positions. I agree, Ainge has done a less than adequate job of offsetting the loses of Posey and Brown. I'm still scratching my head as to why Cassell needed to be resigned. I mean I don't know exactly who Ainge preferred to sign and who actually was attainable in free agents. But, surely there were better options for part or all of the MLE than what Aingle ultimately settled on in players this season. Apparently, the Tony and House resigning had more to do with Rivers than any other reason. In my opinion, House evidently was more motivated playing for a new contract last season. This season, he just doesn't seem like the same game changing player off the bench he was with Posey.

I read that Ainge was interested in James Jones. I remember that Matt Barnes and Quinton Ross were available for a while. But, I'm uncertain if either Mickael Pietrus or Jannero Pargo were realistic options. I wonder why no team wanted Bonzi Wells. He has character issues but is a proven scorer.

TOR is really, really bad. Even in a slump we beat them.

We haven't put together one quarter of proper execution yet. So we still suck :o(

That's my thoughts.

Ainge put the team together and i tthink that they are tired. House hasn't played as well as last year still a decent sub. Tony allen is a complete bust he shouldn't play he is way overrated and has been for awhile. TA knee injury hurt to because he relies on speed and quickness and i think he lost a step. Pruitt, walker and giddens should fill in TA's spot. Also Ainge did try to sign matt Barnes who decide to go with phoenix and then Maurice Lucas who signed with atlanta. The bright spots have been pruitt getting some minutes and scal playing minutes and contributing. I agree the starters need to play a bit less sometimes games were playing and were blowing out teams Doc should have rested the starters. O'bryant should get some play especially with perk out he could give some backup minutes to scal. Ainge will sign someone or make a trade or one of the young guys will step up.

we're still not playing good consistent D.

Perk being hurt/out affects us more than people like to admit. Perk is the rock in our D. without him we try to compensate in ways that make the team much worse overall, like playing KG at the 5 and scal (!) starting.

it would be great to have a quality backup C. i still hope that POB can give us something by the end of the year, but that hope is fading fast. i'm upset about not getting deke. we could really use him right now.

Very true...Perkins is key to our "D"

I hope Doc gets POB in there (W or L) this week and lets see what the kid can do?

The best way to find out is to play em and see if he can step up?....

Thats what we got him for!.....JMO
