small deal to get cap room/pick

Post#1 » by ritt0093 » Tue Jan 13, 2009 4:54 pm

Hey everyone,

Here is an idea I had for a small deal. The primary motivation is to get a little more cap room for FA 09, and with the wolves playing better as of late get rid of some risk for our draft pick.

MIN sends/LAC gets:
Kevin Ollie (expiring)
Mark Madsen (vet 1 year left)
Rights to Pekovic (to replace Camby in a few years)

MIN gets/LAC sends:
MIN 1st back
Jason Hart (PG) expiring
DeAndre Jordan (C)

I think with McHale as coach Jordan might actually learn something and be able to contribute. Hopefully more than Madsen anyway. I wish we could keep Ollie, but lets be honest he isn't in the long term plans for us anyway. This also has the benefits of Hart's expiring this year, and return the pick so if we do end up in late lotto we aren't hurt. The biggest drawback to me is losing Pekovic, but I think that with the other benefits+ Jordan the risk is worth it. I'm not positive LAC does it, but thats why I included Pekovic.

LAC has no reason to do this deal. Also, considering Mchale passed on Jordan in the 2nd rd you need to assume he does not like Jordan as a player.

I guess it would come back to how LAC sees Pekovic. I would hate to give him up.

I personally would do that deal in a heartbeat, but no chance the Clippers do it.

Our 1st round pick is worth more than the package we're giving them, then they have to throw in a semi-decent point guard and a center prospect? Not gonna happen, my friend.

If they get our first it would be 11th or worse. pekovic was considered a mid-late lotto prospect last year based on talent. He slipped because of the contract situation. That was in a deeper draft. Thus, this year you could argue on talent alone he is worth that pick if not more.

I think they'd be very interested in Pek because he would be coming over in two years, which is when Camby is leaving. If he's considered a mid-late lotto, he probably contains similar value to a return of the MIN pick, because you're pr0obably waiting on either one.

I wouldn't mind having Deandre Jordan, but I have to think LAC fans still believe the hype, despite his lackluster performance. Of course, he's only 20, but once your fans have the guy, they only see his potential and talk about some early draft prognostications, not the fact that he was passed on until the second round, and is a 4th stringer. I think they value him more than we would, and wouldn't do the trade.

I like the thinking though. Every little bit we can move farther under the slary cap for 2009 turns into very valauble raw cap space.

even if the FO was not so high on Jordan, that's a deal you have to do. PERIOD. getting our own pick back is worth it.

and IMO we can find another Pekovic with one of our 5398652389 picks

it is just the fact that aside from Nowitzki and the Gasol brothers (add Bargnani recently) there was no euro big man that had a real impact.

and you never know if they'll come over here (Fran Vasquez says Hi) or if they can make the transition (Spanoulis says Hi)

edit: I forgot Biedrins... but he's really athletic for an euro big man

I've noticed a direct correlation between how well a Euro prospect will do and how easy it is to say their name.

If we can't pronounce their name smoothly, then they won't do well over here. It's flawless logic.

The funny part you guys is I'm dead serious. Take Martynas Alphabet. I couldn't say his name if my life depended on it. Same with the Niko Tskyshsyshsysh guy that scored like 80 points for us in 15 minutes of work during the one summer league game he played in last year or the year before.

Jose Calderon, easy to say, he's a rockstar. Dirk Nowitski, easy to say, he's a pimp. Arvydas You'reInTheBonus rolls right off the tongue, you can be the greatest of all time.

Alphabet dude, no chance, go back to the EuroLeague.

Same here, so I think he's going to be the second coming of Shaq. We should have a telethon in order to raise money for his buyout. I can sing and dance, badly, but I can sing and dance.

We can always pay you to stop.

Buyouts are no big deal if he gets an endorsement.

I figured most of the donations coming in would be paying me to stop. But I'm resilient with thick skin, no shame, and no self-respect. I'll sing and dance the night away if it means getting the Wolves another big man.

1st round play-off exit here we come!
